south. watching one construction project just about wrapped up on 93 northbound by route 24. route 3 looks good out of weymouth. no complaints on 95. road work clearing on 128 southbound south of highland ave. so far trains and buses starting on schedule. randy: breaking overnight, a tense situation as police swarm a neighborhood. emily: a mother and child caught in the middle of all of this, and the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is live in norton right now with wt antoinette: emily and randy, police made an arrest overnight, the man who was barricaded inside a home just beyond those trees. he said he had a gun, several rounds of ammunition. police say he even fired at them. here's a look at that scene from overnight. this tense situation starting around 9:30 last night. police were called to the home on john scott boulevard because of an argument between a man and woman. that woman managed to escape the home with a young child, but the

barricaded himself inside. the swat team and other local police agencies were all called in. at one point, police say several rounds of ammunition were fired at officers. one round even striking a police vehicle. mullet eventually surrendered, and he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. he now faces several charges, including assault with intent to murder. there were no injuries in the incident. we're live in norton this morning. newscenter 5. randy: thank you. firefighters are trying to figure out what started a house fire in tewksbury. this happened last night. the home is at 36 chandler street. as you can see from this photo, which we got from the police department, this was a raging fire. we're told by the fire department that this house was abandoned. it does not appear to be suspicious. two firefighters were treated for minor injuries here. emily: right now, an intense search for this man, the suspect in a rash of bank robberies. he's been dubbed the spelling

on all of the notes he passes to tellers demanding cash. the most recent bank robbery happened at a t.d. bank in peabody. he has never shown a weapon, but investigators say he has seemed more and more agitated with every heist he pulls off. >> this person has been leaning in over the teller counter to interact with the tellers, and the tone of verbal interaction with the tellers has become more aggressive. emily: there is a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. randy: right now, an 18-year-old is getting ready to face a judge today, charged with attacking a 14-year-old girl. john allen charged with assault. police say he grabbed the victim by the neck at a school bus stop in bourne last week, nearly strangling her, before driving away. boston police investigating a deadly shooting which happened

when police were called to this home on west cottage street, there was a report of an intruder there. however, officers were able to determine that the two men did know each other. there was a confrontation there, leaving one of them did. the city's police commissioner saying there are just too many guns on the streets. >> two families that will be impacted forever here. again, mayor walsh, myself, always talking about the violence and how many guns are out there. and this is why street. randy: the other person involved is being questioned by police. no names have been released at this time. emily: right now, donald trump is getting ready for more high-profile meetings as he tries to fill out his white house. and the eyeopener's erika tarantal is here with more. erika: a local name getting a lot of attention but first an actual pick.

slot. pelosi has led house democrats since 2003. congressman ryan has been lobbying for the post by calling for a much needed change, he says. the leadership vote will be held on november 30. only on 5 -- the wife of former massachusetts house speaker sal dimasi is sharing her relief that he has been released from prison early. dimasi was sentenced in 2011 to eight years in federal prison for extortion and fraud but has been suffering from neck, tongue radiation damaged his esophagus, so he's only able to swallow liquids and pureed food. debbie dimasi tells our janet wu he's lost 70 pounds. >> with his swallowing being the way it is, he's wasting away to nothing. emily: the judge has granted dimasi a compassionate release. randy: there are new numbers this morning as the state tries to curb suspension rates for

commonwealth. the department of elementary and secondary education found that english language learners were suspended at a rate of 5.4% in 2015. now, that is up from 5% the year before. the rate climbed for low-income students to 7.7% from 7.2. the report finds that black and hispanic students are suspended at a greater rate than white students. state regulations these rates because suspended students are more likely to drop out. a court ruling is expected today as some new hampshire school districts brace for a possible bus strike. the timberlane and hampstead districts want to force an early warning before a strike.

out across this area. this is really the first blast of winter, the first winter storm we've dealt with across the country. bringing quite a bit of snow to the rockies. it's 70 in kansas city and 21 in denver. that's the contrast helping to energize this storm. we're going to stay over on the milder side of the storm with rain initially. but this morning we're running in the upper 30's in worcester, low 40's boston, near 50 on the cape. the cape is e it's coming off a storm off the ocean. it's going to stay in the ocean and high pressure is building from the west. it's setting up to be a really nice day. we will have light winds for most areas. this is the wind over the next 12 hours in boston. around 10 miles per hour or so. but on the cape, it's a different story. there will likely be guests to 30 miles an hour during the morning hours. we'll still be gusting over 20 miles an hour in the afternoon. windy on the cape. clouds thin out to sunshine.

there you see the clouds thinning out on the cape this morning. loads of sunshine today. clear skies tonight. we're down in the 30's in most of the suburbs although 40's in boston and on cape cod, coldest suburbs could drop into the upper 20's. tomorrow, it's one more day in the 50's, and then things change as that storm works in from the west. it's likely going to spread in some rain showers starting saturday night, and as colder air wraps in, rain is going western new england, where there could be minor accumulation, even a few flakes. saturday the pick day of your weekend in the 50's. a few clouds saturday evening coming in. the clouds fill in overnight. notice how that rain spreads in by late sunday morning, a period of showers ending in the afternoon, but look at the snow out toward the berkshires. a few flakes around worcester county as well. notice what happens. colder air settles in. only near 40 on monday. this is it. last day in the 50's today and

driving away last week. former massachusetts governor mitt romney is meeting with donald trump tomorrow. despite his attacks on trump during the campaign, romney may be a candidate for secretary of state. emily, randy? randy: 5:33. three girls facing charges after an alarming attack on the t. emily: sera congi is live. sera: it all came to an end here at andrew station when button. it started november 7 at the savin hill station when a 49-year-old woman got on a red line train. according to police, three teenage girls told the woman to, quote, go back to her own country. they allegedly targeted her, mocking her accent. when the victim tried to move away, police say t girls repeatedly punched her and struck her in the face with a cell phone. a witness hit the emergency button and says the girls were celebrating as they got off the train.

massachusetts and new hampshire are joining dozens of other states now in a drug manufacturer lawsuit. the state is claiming the maker of suboxone conspired with another drug manufacturer to delay the availability of a generic alternative. according to this lawsuit, the deal forced consumers to pay artificially high prices for the drug since 2009. annual sales of suboxonepe the front lines of the war on opioids. it's worse than ever before. investigative reporter karen anderson was with the chelsea fire department. their engine 2 is one of the busiest firetrucks in the country and the problem is fires. it's overdoses, sometimes several a day. firefighters think they got to this man just in time. the state estimates more people are on track this year to die from opioids than last year. chelsea is bringing together
