the snow is coming as well. say it isn't snow. kelly ann: i'm not allowed to use the snow word yet. there's a hint of snow as we head into the forecast tonight into tomorrow. things are dry. it's clear overhead at this point, although clears will be moving in this afternoon. and the system that we're watching is producing some heavy rain. behind that, that snow chance producing blizzard warnings through the great lakes region. beautiful blue skies heading out right now, ou degrees. that's the case for most locations. a milder start will lead us into a milder afternoon as well. yesterday we were in the 60's. we're topping out in the 50's with increased clouds. more so on the coastline than inland. inland locations rhondella, could inch toward 60. rhondella: breaking overnight, a teenager is in serious condition

the 17-year-old driver allegedly sideswiped another car. that driver followed the teen and called police. officers saw the driver driving erratically without headlights. they stopped the pursuit. that's when the teen crashed and was found injured and lying in the road. the investigation is continuing. doug: also breaking overnight, boston police investigating a serious crash it happened on quincy street in dorchester around 11:00 last night. one person suffering serious injuries. we're told the driver did stay on the scene. rhondella: beverly firefighters putting out a fire on kelleher road. no one was hurt. doug: first on 5, former massachusetts senator scott brown is looking at a possible opportunity to join team trump. brown telling newscenter 5 he got a phone call from the president-elect yesterday afternoon.

affairs. newscenter 5's ben simmoneau spoke with the former senator at his home in new hampshire. >> my phone rang, and i have donald trump's number. it locked in. so it was obviously the president-elect. ben: on plane about to land at logan, scott brown's cellphone suddenly rang. it was donald trump, the man he endorsed all the way back before the new hampshire primary, asking brown for more help by possibly taking a cabinet post. >> he said what's your real passion? i said, well, my real passion is soldiers. men and women are dying. they're committing suicide at astronomical rates. ben: brown, a 35-year veteran, views viewing the department of veteran affairs as the toughest cabinet position. yet, the v.a. is something he feels a calling for. >> you read every day about somebody dying or some type of negligence or cover-up in the v.a., and it just makes you so angry. ben: brown says v.a. doctors and nurses need to get out to smaller towns where veterans live and work more seamlessly with the defense department.

with that, while most of us see a very cool and breezy rain, some of our western locations, especially through western new england, so the berkshires and even through the green mountains of vermont, will see some snowfall early tomorrow morning. we're watching that as we head into the afternoon and evening as well. things are mainly dry. we have those clouds and gusty winds as well. you'll notice things will feel quite a bit cooler tomorrow. with that cold blast in place, there is a chance for a few snowflakes to fly even outsi tomorrow evening. here's that big system we're tracking. you can see that stretch of rainfall making its way through toronto through west virginia and then behind that the winds are bringing blizzard warnings through much of the great lakes, bringing that next chance of snowfall for areas of new england. right now things are looking relatively dry and clear, but look closely what we're seeing in the southern portions of the coast right now moving out into the cape as well. there's a very light cloud deck

low clouds hinting at the clouds that will continue to develop as they push westward throughout the afternoon forecast today. that's something we're watching mainly on the coastline today. those clouds keeping our temperatures just slightly cooler along the coast when compared to inland locations. right now 46 in boston. plymouth at a warm 49 degrees. perfect conditions for kicking off the opening ceremonies today. also as we move inland, there's those 30's. it's quite a bit colder to start this morning. as i mentioned, with that sun massachusetts today, that's where we see the likelihood of a high near 60 degrees in pittsfield. quite a bit warmer than the low to mid 50's we're expecting for boston and much of the coastline for this afternoon as well. low pressure off the atlantic is bringing clouds onto the coastline for this afternoon. we're watching what's next, which, of course, is that big system bringing that rainfall. that moves in with a cold front as we move into late tonight into sunday morning. with that, we do see the high likelihood of showers.

snowfall? that will try to wrap behind the cold front bringing the chance of snowfall more likely to the mountains, but we could see flakes elsewhere. here's a look at that. the worcester hills sunday night especially could see a very light coating of snow trying to push through. in the lower elevations, where many of us live, possible flake or two, but really mostly staying outside of that snow chance. moving into the berkshires, though, that's where we see that close to 2-inch mark as we head into sunday n evening as well. your seven-day forecast includes big changes heading our way. we're going from the 50's down into the 40's tomorrow. and just about 40 as we head into monday as well. thanksgiving day, of course, all eyes are on that. temperatures will stay cool in the 40's, but that's also going to bring our next rainmaker. so with that pushing in, doug and rhondella, we see the next chance of a few snowflakes moving into the area. rhondella: thank you, kelly ann. the time is now 8:17.

doug: the man who fired at police during a standoff in norton is behind bars. police saying the 42-year-old heath mullet barricaded himself in his home yesterday. a woman and a young child managed to escape from that house during the standoff. he held police at bay and did open fire, hitting the police car there. this is what the window of that home looked like. you can see it's full of bullet holes. police found guns, ammunition and knives inside that home. >> you're walking out but i hope you'll say a few more minutes. rhondella: vice president-elect mike pence greeted with boos and applause at the hit broadway musical "hamilton." at the end of the performance, the cast addressed the v.p.-elect saying they hoped the show inspired him to uphold american values and work on behalf of all of us. the musical celebrates diversity and the critical role immigrants played in the american revolution.

sunshine. it's going to be a nice mild forecast today, but notice how those temperatures drop into the 50's after sitting in the 60's yesterday. rhondella, that cool trend continues into tomorrow. details coming up. rhondella: thank you, kelly ann. breaking overnight, a serious crash under investigation in wareham. a 17-year-old driver suffering serious injuries after being thrown from a car. it happened around 4:30 this morning on county road. police say the teen sideswiped another car, then drove out happened, but the chase was called off before the crash. the car slid off the road, striking several trees. breaking in dorchester, a car crashes into a person on quincy street in dorchester. that patient is being treated for serious injuries. it happened around 11:00 last night. we're told the driver did stay on the scene. the crash is under investigation. doug: right now, a 9-year-old from roslindale is recovering after getting struck from a car. he was getting off the school bus when he was hit. it happened right in front of

police and the school are trying to figure out if that crash could have been prevented. rhondella: former massachusetts senator scott brown is up for a position in the trump administration. it's a story you saw first on 5, brown telling newscenter 5 he received a call from the president-elect. he is being considered for secretary of veteran affairs. doug: the president-elect has already named three key members of his national security team. and as nichole berlie explains, two of them are already coming under fire. nichole: team trump announcing alabama senator jeff sessions for attorney general, lieutenant general michael flynn for national security advisor and representative michael pompeo of kansas as cia director. amid the announcements, controversy. sessions, an alabama senator for 20 years, was blocked from a federal judgeship in 1986 after allegations he made racial remarks, including testimony from a black u.s. attorney who says sessions called him, quote, boy. sessions denied those

i am not insensitive to blacks. nichole: the aclu, naacp and massachusetts senator elizabeth warren are criticizing the selection of jeff sessions. >> i strongly urge donald trump to withdraw any consideration of senator sessions. but if donald trump fails to do that, then there will be a moral question in the united states senate. nichole: michael flynn is questioned by some for his relationship with russia and his book in which he wrote i don't believe all cultures are morally equivalent. but no signs of worry from team trump. >> we've got a great number of men and women, great qualifications, come forward to serve this new administration. nichole: there are also critiques of the lack of diversity on trump's cabinet with all confirmed position announcements so far going to white men. nichole berlie, wcvb newscenter 5.

the president-elect now paying $25 million to settle three fraud lawsuits against his defunct trump university. the class-action lawsuit charged that trump u failed to deliver on its promise to educate people about the real estate market. the settlement means the plaintiffs will get at least half of their money back. trump's lawyer says the settlements are not an admission of guilt. trump had repeatedly said in the past that he would not agree to a settlement. rhondella: a cape cod stunned by the arrest of a teen, the captain of a high school football team accused of a school bus attack on a 14-year-old girl. his team taking the field without him. newscenter 5's diane cho with the story from bourne. diane: police say the teen girl was attacked while walking to her bus stop on puritan road when suddenly, they say, she was grabbed from behind. players from the upper cape cod regional technical school take the field friday night without one of their captains. that's because 18-year-old john

kidnapping. >> the perpetrator in this case tackled her from behind, placed his arm around her neck while she was on the ground, applying pressure. diane: prosecutors say the victim is a 14-year-old girl. they say she was walking to her bus stop on november 10 when she was attacked. prosecutors say another teen saw what happened and screamed, causing the suspect to take off. >> the vehicle in question, according to the police report, is a very distinguishable type vehicle. diane: prosecutors say several witnesses saw the car several days prior to the attack and on the day it happened, but allen's attorney argues there are several inconsistencies not only regarding the description of the attacker but also the vehicle. >> the only eyewitness of the assailant is this young girl who was in close proximity to the victim. she was shown a photo array. the defendant's photo was in that photo array. she failed to identify anybody within that photo array.

local mayor is threatened because he's gay. doug: the mayor of holyoke going public with that threat. newscenter 5's julie loncich has his response. julie: friday morning, the mayor did something he wouldn't normally do. he got personal. >> i'm not one to share these things publicly, you know, like i think i'll be fine, like i can take it. julie: but this, he says, was simply too much. mayor moore is openly gay. when this note arrived, he paused and then posted, sharing the anonyms are one of the most selfish people that i know due to your gay lifestyle. you are going down. hate mail, moore says, isn't uncommon, but this was something else entirely. >> i think, you know, given the postelection culture that has been, i think, magnified over the last week and a half or so, i think a lot of people have been emboldened to have more overt displays of homophobia and racism and xenophobia. julie: moore became the youngest

instead of the brake. luckily, nobody inside. and check this out. that is not snow you're seeing at the san jose international airport. it's foam spewing out of a large hangar, normally used to put out fires. yesterday it discharged accidentally. it started spilling out into the streets. by midday, the sea of foam was several feet deep. one man just couldn't help himself. and there he is. he says he couldn't even see through it as he rode his book through that fluffy mess. rhondella: i have the other kind of white stuff. a deadly blizzard on the move through the midwest right now. white-out conditions in minnesota causing accident after accident. more than 300 crashes reported already with ice and wind gusts reducing visibility. drivers warned to stay off the road and some big delays at denver international airport. but some say it's about time. >> it's overdue, so we were expecting it a long time ago. so we're pretty prepared for it. rhondella: snow falling 4 inches per hour in some places with temperatures plummeting into the teens. icy roads are going to be

doug: kelly ann, please tell us we're not going to see anything like that. kelly ann: that's not a shocker for those folks. i've lived in denver before. doug: 80 degrees the day before. kelly ann: normal for them. for us, we'll have to wait for that kind of -- rhondella: i need a slower transition. kelly ann: that's what we're looking to see. right now, we're seeing beautiful, sunny skies overhead. it's a half and half forecast this weekend. we have the sun in place today. eventually, those clouds are moving in this then, of course, heading out tomorrow, that's when that cool air will move in along with some of those showers we're looking to track as well. so here's the big reason for that change. the storm system out to our west, which right now is causing blizzard conditions through the great lakes, we're not going to see that here locally, but here's the thing. you move through western new england and much of vermont, we see that chance of snow looking to accumulate to even near half a foot at some of the highest elevations.

behind that system which will not only make things feel cooler, but that's going to keep our temperatures on the lower end of the scale through much of next week as well. here's some of the clouds moving in over some of the far southern portions of our coastline, especially through the cape and islands where we're seeing a very low cloud deck, even a spot drizzle. those will keep the temperatures along the coast cooler. righw mid to up er 40's. in western massachusetts, we're in the lower 30's and a few upper 20's to start off the morning hours. your day planner looking mild. we do have clouds moving in on the coastline keeping our temperatures in the low to mid 50's, but for inner portions of new england, that's where we see the likelihood of those temperatures inching closer to 60 degrees.

by late this evening, a spot shower or two, but the best chance of rain holding off until sunday morning. there are those clouds moving in as we move into the late morning folk. notice how boston still sunny, but by this afternoon, those clouds are creeping westward, and by 5:00 this evening, those clouds are moving onto 128 and much of rhode island as well. by late tonight, there are spot shower chances. the main rainfall holds off until tomorrow morning pushing through the area with the chance ofvi and eventually we're tracking some of this snowfall in the higher elevations eventually trying to make its way toward the lower elevations as well. at this point, most of us missing out on the best snow chance. could see a flake or two, but the worcester hills westward seeing two to six inches especially through the green mountains of vermont this weekend. seven-day forecast is looking mild to start. we're in the 50's today.

crash on a county road. the 17-year-old driver hit another car, then drove off erratically. that's when there was a brief police chase. the driver skidded off the road. he is in serious condition right now. doug: breaking overnight in dorchester, boston police are investigating a serious crash on quincy street. police say a car struck a person at around 11:00 last night. that patient suffering from serious injuries. police say that that driver did stay on the scene. rhondella: right now, owners of apartments on kelleher road will overnight fire. it started in a maintenance garage after 1:00 this morning. no one was fire. the fire is under investigation. doug: police and school officials are looking into the crash that sent a fourth grader into the hospital. the boy was hit by a passing car getting off the school bus. the child is banged up but expected to be okay. chelsea police need your help to track down the driver of this
