doug: ooh. antoinette: not that one. the other "s" word. the cold, cold "s" word. kelly ann: that's the snow we're tracking into western massachusetts right now. you can see, that is locked in place for this morning. it's been in place for much of the early morning hours and will likely stay in place for the afternoon. that's why accumulations of snowfall will be impressive on those highest mountains. elsewhere, it's a cool rain tracking through. that's following a northerly track make its way with light rainfall through much of the cape and also just along the coastline. even downtown boston seeing light rainfall at this point. moving into new hampshire, we have showers pushing through making its way into manchester at this point. then that snowfall just barely extending onto 91 this morning. this is a persistent snow, light but persistent throughout the day. we will likely see that snow into tonight and tomorrow morning as well. many of us missing out on the

we have that wind that will keep us with wind chills in the 30's in the afternoon. we're talking about the chance for some snowflakes even moving into the lower elevations as well in eastern massachusetts. doug and antoinette, i'll have a look at that track coming up. antoinette: okay, kelly ann, thank you. osha is investigating a deadly construction site accident in duxbury. doug: this is a tough one. one worker was killed while working with a power saw. it happened saturday afternoon police say the 28-year-old man was hit in the throat. firefighters requested a helicopter transport but were told one wasn't available at the time. >> we decided to transport to the beth israel hospital in plymouth. again, significant injuries. had to call osha to come and investigate the accident. they're currently investigating that now with the duxbury police department. doug: firefighters tell us the man died of his injuries at the hospital. his name has not been released. antoinette: a teenager is under arrest after dragging a man from

police found that 17-year-old driving erratically on hooper street in worcester. the victim, who is the owner of the truck, was hanging out the driver's door by his arm. the 45-year-old rutland man was eventually freed and he ended up with serious injuries. no word on how he ended up being dragged. that teenager, meanwhile, sped off while police followed. officers arrested him after a brief struggle, and he is now facing several charges. doug: an arrest has been made in this hit and run that happened out in chelsea. remember this one? police say it was a tip that 25-year-old arnold hernandez of lynn saturday. police say hernandez was driving that white minivan that hit a 72-year-old woman who was crossing the street friday morning. the van was found saturday, and police impounded it as evidence. that woman is expected to recover. we're learning more about a victim hit by a car while walking through dorchester friday night. the pedestrian was a woman in her 50's.

police say the driver stayed at the scene. no charges at this time. antoinette: boston police are asking for your help to track down whoever's responsible for the latest deadly shooting in dorchester. this happened near franklin park on normandy street saturday morning. police say they were called out just before 3:00 a.m. the victim, a man in his late 20's, died at the scene. no other details about the shooting have been released. lawyers for gary sampson preparing their defense in his sentencing retrial. they'll begin their case tomorrow. sampson was sentenced to death left three people dead in massachusetts and new hampshire. he was granted a new sentencing trial on appeal. federal prosecutors rested their case on thursday after family members of those killed took the stand. doug: well, an unlikely pair holding a high-level meeting yesterday. president-elect donald trump sitting down with one of his toughest critics, former massachusetts governor mitt romney. that meeting comes as trump works to fill out his cabinet.

the pair met up at trump's private golf course in new jersey joined by vice president-elect mike pence. the meeting lasted nearly 90 minutes. no sign of a done deal. >> we had a far-reaching conversation with regards to the various theaters in the world where there are interests of the united states of real significance and look forward to the coming administration. doug: trump also met with retired marine corps general james mattis, considered a top prospect for defense secretary. the president-elect has more meetings on deck today and possibly more job announcements. another local connection to trump's presidency, manchester, new hampshire, police chief nick willard could be in line for a law enforcement position within trump's team. the union leader reporting that willard and trump have engaged in conversation, the newspaper saying willard could be asked to fill roles at the office of national drug policy or the u.s.

antoinette: the president-elect also lashing out after friday night's "hamilton" performance. mike pence attended that show. video shows the v.p.-elect arriving to a crowd cheering and also booing. at the end of the show, the cast addressed pence directly, saying they hoped the show inspired him to uphold our american values. trump was not a fan of that, tweeting yesterday that the cast harassed his v.p. actor brandon dixon has a different view. >> i'm so glad that he stayed, listened. and i truly appreciate him doing that. antoinette: trump tweeted that the actor should apologize to pence. meanwhile, somerville mayor joe curtatone making his thoughts on trump's reaction known. he tweeted this at trump. quote, you need to be better than this or nation is in serious trouble. people are going to speak out. and your job is to listen. doug: two senior officials are asking president obama to replace the chief of the

doug: doug: welcome back. thanksgiving just four days away. one local turkey farmer says that's good business. for the first year, the owners of lilac hedge farm soldous over 40 turkeys for the holiday. now five years later, they're close to selling 700. even though they had signups open for a couple of months for those birds, there are always customers who wait 'til the last

also baling hay, they can tell you how the animal was raised, how it was fed. i think that's really key. people want to know where their food is coming from. doug: the good news is mackay says they still have a good supply left of turkeys between 14 and 20 pounds. antoinette: the salvation army making sure everyone has a turkey on the table this thanksgiving. the organization handed out nearly 2,100 meal baskets they include a turkey, a roasting pan, vegetables, and pumpkin pie. despite the economic recovery, the salvation army says it is giving away 75% more baskets this year than five years ago. >> i think folks experiencing poverty, folks who are working a couple of part-time jobs just to try to make ends meet, are not quite experiencing the same economic recovery that everybody is. antoinette: the salvation army says thanks to generous donations, it will likely have enough thanksgiving baskets for

yesterday made for a beautiful day for america's hometown thanksgiving celebration in plymouth. volunteers worked so hard to make this parade a big success, and it really was. the floats honor the history of plymouth including the pilgrims and the mayflower. it is an annual tradition for thousands of people, including the newscenter 5 eyeopener team. doug: look at that. antoinette: i got to take part in the parade emily, cindy and olessa. and it really was a fantastic time. that is america's hometown. the people are marvelous. doug: not just local folks. i saw a shout-out from one of my friends from arizona that was here just for that. kelly ann: the weather was just right. if it was today, it would have been a different story. antoinette: exactly. kelly ann: we lucked out for that. antoinette: mid 50's.

to get. there's snow moving in. snowfall accumulation mainly confining themselves into western new england. here's a look at the snowfall forecast. throughout the day today, that snow on the radar is likely going to lock in place for western massachusetts and the berkshires, and really throughout the green mountain range as well. so that's where we see upwards of 8 inches possible on the highest of mountains. now we move down into the lower elevations. worcester hills could see a grassy coati tomorrow morning while the rest of us, it's mainly a cool and gusty rain. late tonight and tomorrow morning as temperature drop, a few less snowflakes can't be ruled out. rainfall right now is pushing northward. this is the main track at this point. it's a very light rainfall which right now is mainly confining itself on to the very far eastern portion of the coast. you're moving from 128 eastward. moving to the north shore as well and making its way to far

this is now extending into new hampshire sea coast as well and the merrimack valley where we are seeing heavier showers at this point pushing through. the snow is steady although it is very light pushing through through the berkshires trying to push eastward onto 91, likely staying just west of 91, though, and that's where it's going to stay through much of today, extending through much of new york and vermont as well. temperatures right now down to the 30's as we push into western portions of massachusetts. 32 degrees move eastward. temperatures well into the upper 40's. this is likely going to be the high temperature of the day. 48 degrees in boston. hyannis at 49 degrees. it's only going to get slightly cooler this afternoon, dropping into the mid 40's, but we're adding in some wind. that means the temperatures will feel even colder. that wind-chill factor down into the 30's throughout the entire day. futurecast showing the main rainfall pushing off the shore

surprised if you see spits of drizzle. snow in western massachusetts stays in place for the berkshires, starts to make its way toward worcester county as well. as the rain/snow mix initially, but as we move through tonight, a light snowfall will be possible, which is why there is that likelihood of a grassy coating. that's in place for early tomorrow morning as well. could see a snowflake or two try to move into the lower drying out through much of the area. the clouds will start to slowly break, likely holding on to them through the afternoon. that snow in the berkshires sticks around into the afternoon for the highest of elevations, even as we move throughout the day on monday. futurecast is showing those temperatures and wind chills down into the 20's and 30's for today. that will be the case even into the evening. waking up tomorrow morning, we're seeing wind chills down

that meeting lasted nearly 90 minutes, but no sign of a done deal just yet. doug: an arrest is made in connection with this hit and run in chelsea, police arresting 25-year-old arnold hernandez of lynn yesterday. they say he was driving a minivan that hit a woman crossing the street on friday. the woman is expected to recover. antoinette: right now, answers on the south shore after the body of a kayaker washed up on the beach. newscenter 5's nicole estaphan reports on the new details from hull. tragic accident. nicole: for hours saturday, police searched for the identity of the body of a kayaker whose body washed ashore in hull. by evening he was identified as douglas king of weymouth, thought to have gone out in the chilly waters sometime in the early morning. >> the water was rough out there, and it looks like he got separated from his kayak and there was some sort of event in the water. nicole: firefighters say king was wearing a wetsuit. a life jacket was found nearby,

>> there's some very experienced kayakers that go out all winter long. we see them on the beach. we see them on the bay. we see the surfers on the beach. nicole: with no i.d., it took some time to find family members, rescuers urging others, if you head out to sea alone, make sure people know of your plans and have a cellphone with you in case of emergency. rescuers also stressing to kayakers as well as other boaters to never underestimate the power of the sea, especially during these winter months. antoinette: a teenager in serious condition and facing charges after a police chase in wareham ended in a crash. police say just after they broke off the chase saturday, the 17-year-old's car skidded off the road and he was thrown from this car. he's now facing a list of charges, including operating with a suspended license and speeding. police say that chase started just before 4:30 a.m. when the teen sideswiped another driver.

university sent home early for thanksgiving break thanks to water pressure issues in the city of westfield. the school will close today at 4:00. the school says canceling classes will help the city work toward resolving the water issues. westfield has restricted water use throughout the city reminding people to conserve. doug: a quick spreading fire in nashua, new hampshire, is under investigation this morning. firefighters saying flames breaking out in an apartment house on the fire spread to two alarms with flames shooting through the attic and the roof. the fire appears to have started in a first floor wall. the cause appears to be accidental. one firefighter was treated for minor head and neck injuries. some students of bruce school in lawrence are headed back to school tomorrow. that is some students. the school was damaged when a fire ripped through a second floor classroom last week. students in grades three through five will return monday. students in grades six through eight will have no school again

broke out on monday. nobody was hurt. investigators say the fire was likely caused by a failure or an overload of a power strip. antoinette: an alarming message from beverly's police chief. the chief tweeting the city had five overdoses in just 24 hours. three of those five were fatal overdoses. the chief asks anyone who knows someone in need of treatment to reach out. he says, quote, we can find them help. in nashua, new hampshire, overdoses prompt each of the six fire stations in nashua now designed safe station where anyone looking to be connected to a recovery program can go to for help. firefighters hope more people will reach out to them before it's too late. the town is following in manchester's footsteps where nearly 600 people have gotten help since may. >> they just don't know where to turn, and they are ready to try and stop. and that's when we want to catch

critical time, is when they're ready for help. antoinette: nashua has already seen four fatal overdoses this month. doug: well, a protest of an alt-right conference in washington, d.c., turns violent saturday. two people from the national policy institute approached protestors hoping to interview them. that's when one of the protestors knocked the man's camera, leading to a fight. one man from npi ended up with a gash on his forehead. the two protestors were detained by police. npi's leader is known for promoting white supremacist boston mayor marty walsh looking to heal scars in boston as he takes steps to address racism. he says it's time for the city to start talking about it. as newscenter 5's david bienick reports, he's kicking off a year-long series of town hall discussions. doug: inside the theater, the talk from on-stage was often personal. >> from an early age, i learned to be afraid to be black. david: the reaction from the audience was at times emotional. >> people that look like me

david: several hundred people from boston and surrounding towns turned out for mayor marty walsh's first town hall on race. >> boston has an issue with racism. [applause] >> thank you. david: the mayor drew applause for that acknowledgement. still, not everyone was satisfied. >> one of the things i'd like to hear going forward is perhaps a change in your rhetoric. instead of saying, like, no hostility but actually like i really want to hear your emotions as clear or as raw as they are. david: boston's history with busing, police relations and equality opportunity came up as problems. afterwards, people said they planned to hold the mayor and other city officials accountable for solutions. >> so we'll see if neighborhoods are equal. >> i think it's a job that will take a very long time. >> one of the measurements will be how many people come out for the dialogues in the different areas of the city. david: the mayor declined a goal for how many people he'd like to see attend these town halls and

antoinette: 6:43. we're following breaking news from india. dozens of people are dead after a train derailed there. this happened near the industrial city of kanpur. it's unclear what caused the train to go off the tracks. doug: caught on camera. a citizen jumping into action to help a police officer under attack. this happened just outside of seattle. the officer was investigating a smashed window at a fast-food restaurant when the suspect attacked. the officer says his taser malfunctioned, and that's when a

>> i saw somebody viciously attacking somebody. if we can help one another, that's the most important thing life can give. doug: the officer and chief of police are thankful to that person for taking action. the suspect was arrested for assault. antoinette: the weather forecast is about to get more accurate, nasa launching the goes-r satellite from cape canaveral last night. the upgrade is expected to cost about $11 ll short time because of technical issues. but eventually launched without any problems. snow! ooh, it continues to fall in parts of the country, including michigan where the flakes are blanketing areas of kalamazoo. in minnesota, police say 340 crashes resulted in nearly 40 injuries. there have been also more than 500 spinouts since thursday.

doug: that's the thing. we've got a big travel thanksgiving holiday coming up. so is this going to be out of here before? kelly ann: it's moving out just in time for the workweek. a lot of people are traveling on wednesday. it's looking sunny and clear. we have another system moving in for thanksgiving day. we're kind of in between systems as we move into the days ahead. you know what? it's feeling a bit more like november, because we were a little spoiled with those 60's and 50's of earlier this week. now th cooling us down into the 40's for much of today. showers that are pushing through right now are a bit more scattered in nature. the main and heavy line earlier this morning is now starting to push northward, make its way through the new hampshire sea coast. the snow which is stuck in place through much of western massachusetts extends through much of western new england as well. let's take a zoom in on what we're seeing as we move onto the coast. the north shore is getting in on that light rainfall. as we move through downtown

it's very spotty. at this point, we're just seeing a few sprinkles moving through, especially as you're standing just west of 495. pushing through portsmouth. the snow pushing through is a light snow, but a persistent snow. so that will be able to accumulate as we move through the forecast today and also into the forecast tomorrow morning for those higher mountains. temperatures right now are as warm as they're going to get for today. 48 in downtown boston. plymouth at 49 degrees. conditions. we had the parade. it was perfect. it was cloudy, but we didn't see any of that rainfall. quite a bit of a change today as that rain is pushing through for this morning. 37 degrees in springfield. pitts field at 32 degrees. that's where we'll stay for much of day. your day planner looking cool. rain and snow to the west. it will stay in place for the afternoon while the rest of us get in on a dry break. the showers will become very spotty and light.

temperatures start to cool, we will see that chance of a few snowflakes even outside of the higher elevations. nothing that's likely to accumulate. we do have gusty winds just to our west. and that will be pushing eastward into the area today. winds gusting near 40 miles per hour means that the temperatures in the 40's are going to feel more like the 30's. it's a chilly outlook tomorrow as well. by tuesday, high pressure is moving in, though, and as that pushes into the area, travel for tuesday absolutely perfect. sunny skies and dry conditions as well. wet snowflakes. that's what we're seeing the chance for as we move outside of the higher elevations, really from 495 east. as we move into the worcester hills, a grassy coating will be possible. then the highest of the elevations seeing that chance of over 1/2 foot of snowfall. temperatures nice and cool into your forecast tomorrow. tuesday we will see sunny
