schedule. >> the breaking news we've been following in boston. four police officers there injured overnight in a violent confrontation. >> let's get to the eyeopener's antoinette antonio in dorchester right now. antoinette? >> what a scary situation this was for those four police officers. two of them were actually dragged by the suspect's car. two of them were nearly hit by that vehicle. all of this starting with a call to this area of this dorchester bar that call came in around 12:30 for reports of a person who had a gun near dublin house on stoughton street. police found a car matching the description they were given, but as they were investigating, that car suddenly took off, dragging two of the officers and nearly hitting those other two officers. four police officers were taken to the hospital, suffering from nonlife-threatening injuries. as for that suspect, they got

is that the vehicle is a silver chevy with connecticut plates. police say that there are surveillance cameras in this area and right now they are reviewing that surveillance video in hopes of hoping with their investigation. but the suspect, for now, is still on the loose. we're live in dorchester this morning, antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. >> thank you. also breaking overnight, detroit police making an arrest in connection with the shooting of a wayne state university campus police officer. that officer may have been responding to a 911 call man who was harassing people in the neighborhood. the officer just got out of surgery after being shot in the head. the man under arrest is believed to be a person of interest in last night's shooting. >> loved ones gather in lowell to remember a woman beaten to death outside an apartment complex. right now, one woman is behind bars and prosecutors aren't ruling out more arrests. amarilis huertas-perez was arraigned yesterday. she's accused of hitting

with a bottle of liquor during a fight. four others were involved in the attack but have not been identified. family members of the victim want justice. >> i'll be more happy when they get the rest of the cowards that did this to my mother. it hurts me so much that they had no heart. >> investigators say huertas-perez left the scene with at least one other person in a stolen black acura s.u.v. that acura crashed into a home the d.a.'s office says the investigation is far from over. >> new this morning, data shows homicides in boston have gone up dramatically, they have risen 20% over 2015. 40 homicides in the city so far this year. community leaders tell the herald the trend is tied to an increase in gang activity. the report finds so-called hot

bowdoin-geneva neighborhood. >> a new push in massachusetts to get funding from congress. senator ed markey will hold an event today calling for the passage of opioid funding during congress's lame duck session. he'll be joined by healthcare experts in boston. the push comes as we learn the impact of new rules on prescription monitoring. daily searches of a prescription database have more than quadruple after rules requiring doctors check before prescribing opioids with a abuse. the rules were put into place on october 15. since then, doctors searched an average of 28,423 times per weekday. in july, that number was just below 5,000. >> president-elect donald trump is in florida this morning. his plane landed last night. he will be spending thanksgiving at his home in palm beach, florida. some cabinet positions have been filled. others are still open.

>> sal dimasi back home this morning. the former speaker of the massachusetts house of representatives was released early from prison. he has been battling several cancers. he arrived at logan yesterday afternoon talking to reporters. the 71-year-old has been fighting neck, tongue, and prostate cancer in a north carolina prison. he expressed gratitude for his early release granted by a judge. >> i just want to say how happy i am and grateful and thankful that i'm home in boston with my family. i'm a fighter.

the purple near minneapolis, that's a winter weather advisory. that storm system is working in our direction. there is some moisture. it will lose a lot of its punch. but some of this will be here by tomorrow morning. today, we've got a big area of high pressure just to our west, still some wind out there. but the skies are mainly clear. just a few patches of clouds. we're 34 in boston. 28 in worcester. windchills are feeling a little bit cooler. so out the door, dress for teens and 20s. very wintry as it has been the past couple of days. the winds are going to diminish with time today. they are around 15, 20 miles per hour this morning. notice by 4:00 they are down to 10 miles per hour. and lots of sunshine today. so it's a pretty quiet weather day overall.

into the low-to-mid 40s, may touch 46 in taunton. that's warmer than the past few days. 44 in boston today. so not bad at all. tonight we'll get clouds. so the temperatures don't drop too dramatically. 20s to around the freezing mark, just cold enough that we're a little concerned with wintry precipitation. notice how the clouds fill in through about 5:00, 6:00 a.m. thereafter we'll watch moisture from especially from the pike north that we're talking about snow. in the morning the area lifts northward. not seeing as much in southeastern massachusetts, but a little bit of light snow mix mixing with rain in the coastline. there's area to our west that may come in tomorrow evening. so the possibility is there for a dusting of snow, especially

northward. over route 2 into northwesternmost massachusetts, southern vermont, we could see a coating up to an inch. just enough to maybe things slippery tomorrow. if you're heading to the football games, could be flurries, drizzle through midday. in the afternoon, kind of cool and a damp. -- damp. tomorrow evening into friday, we're going to kind of get a renewed period o on friday near the freezing mark, as we get rain going back thursday night into friday morning, some of that could be freezing on contact. so there could be a little bit of an icy glaze on friday morning. if you're doing black friday shopping, keep that in mind. damp weather off and on on friday. periods of rain into the afternoon and evening hours. we will see areas of rain into early saturday. we should dry things out, a few breaks of sunshine on sunday.

doug, how is it looking? it's still early. >> good morning, emily, randy. yeah, not too bad out here. we're on the mass pike. we're westbound just passing or just about to pass the westboro rest area. folks familiar with this area know where we are. the only thing you've got to worry about right now is wind. really that's what cindy mentioned. just a windy day out here. it's wide open, so if you've got to get to grandma's house, go now. today is expected to be the biggest one on the roadways. that doesn't mean you're not out of the woods. aaa is predicting a more than 5% increase in travel this holiday season. most of that out here on the roads. today, the busiest travel times -- keep this in mind -- between 1:00 in the afternoon and 5:00 tonight. so if you can start early or late, you might be better off.

2016 are included in this recall. toyota will be repairing the doors for free, of course. that company said it will notify owners about the fix by mid january. asian stocks higher as investors share joy in the dow's record closing. u.s. stock futures are higher. investors on wall street will be watching to see how the markets close after the dow passed 19,000 for the first time ever. >> you're trending display this bucket that sparked the ice bucket challenge. it will become a permanent part of the exhibit. the challenge took off once pete frates, a baseball player with the disease got involved. raised $115 million for the a.l.s. association and helped scientists discover a gene linked to the disease. >> laurie and val.

>> we're following breaking news in your early "news to go." >> four boston police officers are recovering and a suspect is on the run after a violent confrontation in dorchester. police were called to the morning for reports of a person with a gun. as officers approached the car, the driver then floored it, dragging two of the officers, nearly striking the others. none of the officers were seriously hurt, but the suspect did get away. our antoinette antonio is at the scene this morning. antoinette will have an update for us in minutes at 5:00. the hearing to suppress evidence against this man accused of assaulting a 5-year-old fitchburg boy who was later found dead has been suspended now.

alberto sierra allegedly made to a jail informant were not relevant to those charges. the information led to the discovery of jeremiah oliver's body in 2013 along the highway in sterling. sierra told oliver's mother told him she harmed the child and put the child in a suitcase. >> a school bus driver on leave after reports a student was sexually assaulted on his bus. investigators say the who attends the boston renaissance charter public school was repeatedly assaulted by a 6-year-old. the mother of the victim tells the globe her son is supposed to sit in the front of the bus next to the driver. she says he is developmentally delayed. >> seriously children are in critical condition as a school bus driver in chattanooga, tennessee, faces five counterparts of vehicular homicide. five children were killed in the

police say 24-year-old driver was speeding. the investigator says they will be reviewing the two cameras set up in that bus. >> a series of bad choices in florida. police say this man left a club drunk, then fell out of his moving pickup truck, the back wheels running over his legs. the truck then plowed into a nearby house. the man staggered away from the scene, turning himself in a few days later. >> a california convenience store owneres would-be robber. surveillance showing the man walking into the store, pulling out a gun, demanding cash. the store owner grabs him from behind and trying to wrestle him to the ground. the struggle ends outside when the gunman gets free and takes off. the owner says he decided not to chase the gunman when the suspect pulled out a second gun. >> the bruins were skating high against the blues before losing defenseman. he left in the second period

that way. notice rain from chicago down to st. louis back into eastern texas. we are watching the system because this is going to make a run toward us as we get into the day tomorrow. so we've got mainly clear skies now. we'll have a good amount of sunshine here throughout the day. watch the system approach. but through the evening hours it is dry. during the overnight hours, clouds increase. tomorrow morning we've got cold air in place and a strip of light moisture moving in. there could be a of the city of boston tomorrow morning. most of the day is cloudy. there could be drizzle. this low pressure will redevelop to our south and that will start showers tomorrow evening. it looks wet at times friday. if you're doing shopping on black friday, it does look like there will be rain at times. cold enough to see patches of freezing and glazing. rain saturday as well.
