conditions. cindy: north and west of 495, we have light freezing rain that could make things icey through 10:00 this morning, so through northern worcester county, southern new hampshire, this is where the roads could be slippery this morning. we have seen a band of light freezing rain move through, ashby, peperil, and we could have light freezing rain falling right now. look at the temperatures. they are running in the lower 30s. so close to the freezing mark. boston is 3 lower 30s, but for the next few hours, the focus is going to be north and west of the city of boston, primarily. we're waiting for the next batch of rain in eastern pennsylvania right now to move on in, and that will come with warmer air so the temperatures climb slowly through the 40s this afternoon. and look at that by 6:00 tonight it does warm up but it takes all day. and the steadiest rain starts to come in around or just after

concern is for the commute, downpours at that time, could make things tough for traveling this evening. let's focus in on the morning commute, say good morning to olessa, watching issues out there this morning. >> we're watching a problem in lynn, thank you. first here's what's going on. we have a crew on the scene. there is for a police shooting, so if you are heading in that direction plan accordingly. the road is closed, shepherd to commercial street, and we'll have more live from the scene in just a few minutes. aside from that we're watching the delays building into andover, and as you travel the pike so far we're in good shape. 15 minutes eastbound, 495 to 128. heading south, 24 building delays out of brockton, 95 in canton, and if you are traveling route 3, slow ride into the braintree split, and once you get there, it's 25 minutes on the expressway, braintree into boston. so far, trains and buses are running on schedule, and a quick live look outside in saugus. route 1, starting to build the delays. you can see it here traveling

randy: problems and police are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting. emily: sera congi has the yaints just coming in for us. sera? sera: we have new information to tell you. the lynn police chief telling us the suspect shot is in surgery right now, and the officer involved was not hurt. this is still a very active scene. you can take a look behind me. the crime scene investigates have just arrived. tension is focused on the sidewalk on the southbound side of the area. evidence markers placed on the ground. both sides of the lynnway are underway. this happened at 4:00 this morning. the police chief telling us that the shooting was the result of an armed robbery at a gas station which is on the other side of this crime scene. police are there now, as well, this morning. not many details about exactly how this happened, but again officer-involved shooting, the suspect is at mgh in surgery.

we'll bring you more information as soon as we get it. live in lynn, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: thank you, and breaking overnight, a deadly crash under investigation in east boston. the eye's doug meehan is there near the scene with what we know right now. >> hi, randy, yes, this is the mcclellan highway here in east boston. the road bends up and around the corner. there was a deadly accident. it is clear, all lanes are open, but it was a different scene last night, so let's go to it. boston ems crash. it happened just before 11:00 last night. the car is on its roof. the northbound lanes are closed for much of the overnight hours. we are wait to get learn if there was anybody else inside of that car, and also what might have triggered the crash. unconfirmed reports there may have been a second car involved, a drag racing situation but at this point that is still unconfirmed. we're live in east boston this morning, doug meehan, wcvb

emily: thank you, also breaking a charter plane crashes in colombia, 81 people onboard, including members of a brazilian soccer team, just five people survived. investigates say the plane declared an emergency due to an electric failure just before that crash. randy: we are learning more about the man behind an attack at ohio state universitnd there was a troubling sign moments before the violence. erika is here with the red flag. erika? erika: police have been searching for a motive scouring the suspect's home. but for now a facebook post could be the biggest indicator of the 18-year-old's mind set. abdul was killed just one minute after driving into a crowd and jumping out, slashing people with a butcher knife, 11 were hurt, one critically before this police officer shot artan dead, he was a somali immigrant and resident.

could not pray openly as a muslim. investigates say he posted to facebook moments before the attack calling on america to stop interfering with the muslim nations saying i can't take it any more. the attack prompted an alert urging students to run, hide or fight. some of them barricading themselves in. >> i ran into a bathroom, luckily, that was just a single stall, was able to lock myself in there. erika: police are investigating whether artan emily: a man has serious injuries after a fire in tewksbury. the flames reaching two alarms. the man who owns that house was inside at the time. the 84-year-old flown to mass general with severe burns. a neighbor helped that man get away from the flames. >> it was on fire.

to freezing, so northern worcester county in the pink, places like orange and over to lemonster and up towards pepperil, and there is the concern for a bit of freezing rain this morning, so there is a freezing rain advisory until 10:00. we get deeper into the morning and the temperatures will be climbing, and everything has been light, but we have had a band of freezing rain shift through, and that is focused up across manchester, and there is another batch off to the west, and this is going to be working everything on the lighter side, the temperature in jeffrey, is 31, 31 in nashua so that's why the concern for slippery conditions. right along 495, as well we have a batch of rain, but as it bumps into the colder temperatures, that could freeze on contact, as well. and otherwise, down towards the cape we have got low to mid 30s this morning. the focus of the wet weather for you comes later on as this rain right here across eastern pennsylvania works in your

get into the afternoon, as this next batch of rain comes in, and it will bring with it warmer air. look at the temperature right now in new york city. it's 54. you contrast that to the 38, and it's a difference, we will climb up into the 50s, but it's not happening until the very end of the day, and in fact, probably after sunset, and by the time that we get into the lower 50s, but that rain starts to move in around lunchtime, and it's heavy through the afternoon. we will lime to about 50 through the morning, any moisture is off to the north and west, and notice how we see the rain, steady rain, shift eastward, and rain at times through the afternoon, and your evening commute will feature downpours, especially along and south of the pike. and that could lead to poor drainage flooding. this is all going to wind down at midnight or so. we'll dry things out overnight. but you know, the winds really are going to ramp up for a brief time here in southeastern

93 south building volume out of methuen, and down into andover, and slowdown into wilmington and as you travel the pike, 15 minutes, 495 to 128. heading south, slow, also delays from sharon and the ride on the expressway, almost a half-hour, braintree into boston. so far trains and buses are doing ok. randy: a four-day deer hunt begins today at the blue hill reservation. the department of recreation of the commonwealth says the reservation reservation, and the hunt is part of a multi-year plan to reduce the number of animals. the protesters plan to rally at that site at the check-in today saying that they will be a voice for the deer. and service on the red line of the t took a hit as the mbta looks for the winter readiness, they say that the performance reliability during the peak periods was at 85% last week. two disabled trains and slippery rail conditions between

the peak performance reliability is at 90% in the 30 days lead, to the incident. the service dip comes as the mbta looks to complete line work before the onset of winter weather. >> and your economy this tuesday, workers in boston and more than 340 other cities will protest over hourly wages, and that protest will include fast food, airports, and other low wage workers demanding $15 an hour. this is part of a national day of action for the so-called fight for across the country over the last couple of years. in massachusetts, the minimum wage will rise from 10 to 11 an hour on january 1. boston residents could soon be paying more at the grocery store. the city is weighing a new proposal that would charge residents 5 cents per bag at grocery and convenience stores. the new measure covers all bags, including paper and plastic, the goal is to encourage customers to bring a reusable bag. the herald reports the council

red sox good morning, we're on top of breaking news this morning, a police officer involved shooting has shut down a stretch of the lynnway. they are investigating there, and a deadly crash in east boston. new information just coming into our newsroom from that scene. emily: we'll get to those stories but we want to begin with cindy tracking wet weather that could impact the commute but for later today. >> and we have got heavy rain for this evening's commute. the concern this morning is it looks like there is light rain out there this morning. you can see the pink color. th freezing rain, so light rain hitting the cold can create a glaze, and it's deceiving this morning. so just be careful out there. north and west of 495, we have a freezing rain advisory until 10:00, but getting reports of some glazing happening in the merrimack valley, as well. we have got that heavy rain coming later today. that's round one, round two comes later tomorrow, so the next two days, today and tomorrow, the evening commutes are going to be in that area. the first round is going to give

in some localized spots of rainfall, and this is something that we need, and here's the heavier rain that's going to shift in later today, this morning month, everything is very light, but it's the temperatures that are the concern, and you can see that we're running near or below freezing, nashua to lawrence where we have light freezing rain come through, and upper 30s in boston, low to mid 30s on the south shore, and look at the next batch of freezing rain, shifting towards northern worcester county. and so this is the area that we're watching here this morning. temperatures will climb into the low 50s but it takes today and tomorrow impact weather days for that heavier rain on the way, and we're in the 40s here through sunset, and after we'll jump up into the 50s. so here are the high temperatures, by this evening, 50 to 55, and we'll get the steadiest rain to come in near or after lunchtime, as it spreads in during that commute, the yellows and oranges showing up, and those are the downpours that will be around and could create poor drainage flooding. speaking of the roads, let's go out there, the commute, dealing

see, and the temperature is 38 degrees, so not a concern for icing, but areas north of west could be slippery, this extends up into the merrimack valley. there is a freezing rain advisory where you see the pink, until 10:00 for light icing. we have had a couple of rounds of light rain and freezing rain move through, and the temperatures, north and west of the city, flirting with that freezing mark so cold surfaces like the roadways and the batch to shift, and that should come in later this afternoon, with some warmer air, and the temperatures to the south, we're in the 50s, and that's where we're headed but it does not happen until likely this evening and after sunset, and steady rain picks up around noontime in the boston area, and as we go through the afternoon there will be rain at times, and it will get heavy for that commute. we're looking at an inch of rainfall before this pushes out this evening, so it's an impact weather day for the heavy rain today. coming in with the commute and you know what we're going to do
