40 degrees in boston, but the wind-chill factor is below freezing. winds 16 miles an hour and throughout the day they'll occasionally gust up to 20 to even 25 miles per hour. really impacting how it's feeling as you're heading out the door even as we head into the afternoon. here's what it's looking like wind chill-wise. it's feeling like 23 degrees in worcester right now. mainly low to mid 30's, the windll providence feeling like 31 degree at this point. winds are picking up already. along the coastline, mainly around 13 to 15 miles per hour. boston seeing a wind speed of only 16. but check out worcester. that wind speed at 20 miles an hour. occasionally gusts to 25 in the height of the afternoon. dry and clear on the radar right now. that will be the case throughout the rest of the forecast today. sunshine breaking out, and notice how although our temperatures cool quite a bit for around sunrise into the

sera: that reaction, antoinette and randy, coming from the patriots as well as the gronkowski family. he'll be having surgery today. he is not expected to continue on with the season. however, the family says they're not going to make a decision until they see how he does after this surgery. part of the statement, take a look, it reads after a hit early in the jets game, rob began to experience significant back and leg pain. the injury forced him to leave the game, and he didot quarter of last sunday's game where gronk was slow to get up after taking a hit, and he did not return to the field. gronk will undergo surgery to address that lower back injury. the surgery will be in los angeles. tom brady reacting to the news last night. >> i've seen him the last few days. i've spoken to him a few times. everyone's thinking about him and what he's gone through. it's such a physical sport. it's hard to see people that you

share. i also know the results he has, and that will neverhange with him. he'll be determined as ever to get back and get better as soon as possible. sera: we're all hoping for that certainly. this is a surgery that gnk has had twice before. coming up in our next half hour, we'll hear from some experts in boston who say that may make what is normally a straightforward surgery a little more complicated. live at gillette stadium, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. breaking overnight, boston police investigating after shots are fired on parker street in roxbury. this was around 1:30 this morning. a wentworth campus police cruiser hit. four people were in the vehicle. one was arrested. three got away. the officer was taken to the hospital but will be okay. also breaking, boston police are investigating a shooting in dorchester. one man in serious condition after getting shot on devon

no word on any suspects at this hour. randy: one family is waiting for an answer after a horrible discovery in the city of lawrence. a decapitated body was found along the merrimack river. that's the same area where a missing teenager was last seen. and the eyeopener's nicole estaphan is in lawrence with the disturbing mystery. nicole: good morning, randy. the body of the man found here along the river yesterday has yet to be identified, but as you mentioned, a lawrence family fears the victim may be loved one. 16-year-old lee manuel paulino was seen two weeks ago. he'd been on the river's edge with a friend. at this point, the district attorney is not making any connection, but the boy's father talking to our jorge quiroga last night. >> have they told you anything? >> they haven't said nothing. >> what are you thinking? >> i'moping for the best. >> it's just sickening. it's just -- it's just scary to think that something like this

nicole: how the victim died is still a mystery this morning. the victim's head later found after an extensive search. now, friends do describe paulino as a good kid, never in trouble. live in lawrence, nicole estaphan, wcvb newscenter 5. antoinette: nicole, thank you. terrifying video out of lowell this morning. look at this. you see those two masked men barging into a convenience store threatening the clerk and then getting away with cash. the search for those suspects is on. the night at the belvedere wine and spirits store. one of the men was armed with a handgun, the other a sawed-off shotgun. that clerk puts his hand in the air ande walks away from the re. his boss saying that he did the right thing. >> take the money. i don't want to fight. that's the first thing. antoinette: police believe these are the same men spotted earlier

w the masked pair. he ran into the store, locked the doors and called 9-1-1. randy: donald trump is previewing a plan of action as he celebrates his white house win. the president-elect had a lot to say at a victory rally in ohio last night, and erika is here with his message. erika: yes, randy. in ohio, trump announced he'd chosen retired marine general james "mad dog" mattis as secretary of defense. in the 17 days trump spent campaigning in ohio was the road show, this was the reunion. >> i love you, ohio. this is a great place. erika: in cincinnati mapping out a broad agea that includes tax reforms, repealing and reforming obamacare and focusing on inclusion. >> we denounce all of the hatred. we're going to come together. erika: the president-elect condemning bigotry and prejudice

criticizing the deal, saying carrier took trump hostage and won. corporations can now threaten to offshore jobs. antoinette: a legal setback for a woman in connection with the death of her boyfriend. prosecutors say carter encouraged 18-year-old conrad roy to commit suicide. carter's attorneys wanted an expert to an antidepressant roy was taking. they say the drug warns it may cause suicidal effects. no bail for the brockton teenager charged with stabbing his mother to death. frantz polynice allegedly stabbed his mother 15 times inside their merritt avenue home. he'd recently been released from a hospital where he had been treated for depression. randy: new duck boat safety

governor charlie baker has 10 days to take action on the legislation that has reached his desk and already is in the process for the company. a deadly collision between a duck boat and motor scooter last april prompted the changes. 28-year-old allison warmuth died in this accident. the bill prohibits duck boat drivers from also serving as narrators. blind spot cameras and proximity sensors will be required. antoinette: a high-speed driver posting a live video to the crash that ended that wild ride. and a warning for wine drinkers this morning before pouring that glass. the potential health impact just discovered. erika? erika: tracking breaking news overnight. a wentworth campus police cruiser involved in a crash in boston. it happened after reports of shots fired in roxbury. police now looking for three people after making one arrest at the scene. kelly ann? kelly ann: dry today, but we're still dealing with some breezy conditions. how long that's going to last

this is what it's feeling like. 23 degrees in worcester right now. feeling well below freezing. that's the case as we move along the coastline with boston feeling like 31 degrees right now. plymouth, a wind chill of 30 as we move on to the cape. dry on the radar right now. no signs of really any clouds and any precipitation. but the lack of clouds do allow for our temperatures to get cooler tonight. you may have recalled yesterday athis time we were seeing many spots in the 40's to eve a bit of a change today as we see that cooler air moving in from the west. notice how this westerly flow is actually producing flurries as we move into western new york. it's going to try to creep into western massachusetts, the berkshires later this afternoon and evening. east of the berkshires, we are staying dry, because luckily for us, we're on the other side of e mountains. that's going to bring down-sloping wind keeping us dry

temperatures struggle. we're sitting just about 50 in boston this afternoon. 50 in hyannis. as we move into inland locations, a few 40's expected, worcester at 44 degrees even as we head out toward orange, 46 degrees with a high temperature this afternoon. as we take a look at our futurecast, dry conditions condition, but notice how those clouds gather as we move into our western massachusetts locations. eventually, some of those clouds produce a sprinkle or two, and even some for the berkshire mountains. that is going to fade overnight and we are drying out. big, these cool temperatures we're seeing toward alaska and canada, when will that approach here? we are starting to see an arctic blast as we head into next week. it starts to move into the western portion of the country and eventually that will approach oureg toward the end of next week. seven-day forecast includes sunshine breaking out for today.

than 100 miles an hour. and that drive only stopped after a terrifying crash. onasi olio-rojas sped along route 6 toward i-95 in rhode island. he was driving erratically, using the breakdown lane to pass other people. that drive ended in a crash. olio-rojas hitting the back of a garbage truck. then the concrete barrier in the middle of the road. olio-rojas is in critical condition at the hospital. >> the shows a blatant disregard that the operator has for anybody else on the roadway. i mean, we're very fortunate that he didn't hit anybody else. antoinette: state police used d.o.t. cameras to verify this video. they say olio-rojas will face charges. randy: your economy this friday morning. airbnb is enforcing new limits on private home rentals. the limitations affect london and amsterdam but could impact the boston market a well.

the temperature. 36 degrees out there. kelly ann: definitely a chilly one. at least the fog isn't there we were seeing yesterday. you need a couple of more layers. it's beginning t feel like that december chill. highs this afternoon will attempt to hit 50, but check out tomorrow. we're dropping into the 40's. that's actually a tad below average, which is about 46 degrees this time of year. we're down to the 30's as we head into sunday and monday. get those jackets handy. it w ahead. right now we're seeing those winds starting to get gusty out there as well. that's going to be a factor making things feel colder in the afternoon. worcester seeing a wind speed of 20 miles per hour. we're seeing wind speeds in boston of 16. so that's why even though our temperatures right now are starting to inch toward the upper 30's, it's still feeling like the 20's and lower 30's out there right now with the wind chills only 23 degrees in worcester, but as you move along the coastline, not quite as bad. low to mid 30's with wind chills

three got away. boston police say the officer will be okay. also breaking right now, boston police investigating a shooting in dorchester. one man is in serious condition after being shot on devon street. his condition does not appear to be life-threatening. a lawrence family is hoping a body found along the merrimack river is not this young man. 16-year-old lee manuel paulino was seen two weeks ago. the essex county d.a.'s office has not released the gronkowski will be having surgery today on his lower back. antoinette: the eyeopener's sera congi live at gillette stadium with what we're learning about this procedure, sera. sera: antoinette and randy, we don't know the specifics of the surgery that gronk will be having today. however, doctors in boston tell us that typically it is pretty straightforward. gronk was injured during the game with the jets on sunday in the first quarter of the game. he walked off the field and did not return.

say that could make this latest surgery a little trickier than usual. >> if this herniation is at the same level he's had previous surgery at, it could be a little more complex. there will be some scar. he may be at increased risk for another herniation. >> the doctor tells us the vast majority of these surgeries are successful and gronk isod live at gillette stadium, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: worcester police are asking for the public's help in identifying a shooting suspect. the shooting happened last night. police responded to this area of 295 pleasant street. they found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. the teen was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital. he is expected to recover. anyone with information should call worcester police. antoinette: brockton police searching for suspects in a violent home invasion that sent

three masked men stunned michael acciavatti with a taser. he was able to free himself and called police. those men got away with gold coins from the home. it's unclear whether they may have been familiar with the victim or property. a former student at proctor academy in andover, new hampshire, has been indicted on sexual assault ch girl was attacked in her dorm room at the school. according to proctor officials, the defendant in the case, derek tillotson, left school the same day as the assault. randy: rachelle bond is accused of disposing her daughter's body after a boyfriend killed the

michael mccarthy will be tried separately. antoinette: the first two days of the deer hunt are in the books and they've killed more than 40 deer. the controlled hunt began tuesday. the hunters checked in 24 deer tuesday, 17 on wednesday. the department of conservation and recreation says the goal here is to lessen the impacts of deer overpopulation. the hunt continues next week. randy: a new parking program in boston aimed at deterring people long. you'll start seeing a pretty significant price hike at the meters in the seaport district and in the back bay of the city. the current meter race is $1.25 an hour. starting january 3 in the back bay, that goes up to $3.75.seap. the goal of the program is to open spaces for all drivers. similar efforts have been successful in other cities, seattle, los angeles and san francisco.

flurries. there could be slick travel, randy. randy: a petersham woman says she has proof a mountain lion attacked her horse. this happened in june. anne marie zukowski says her horse received deep cuts from an animal that she was sure was a cougar, but mountain lions are extremely rare in massachusetts. just two confirmed sights in 20 years. zukowski, however, had evidence. >> i was about that big, and it was kind of stuck together as a clump of hair, and it was light brown in color. randy: a dna lab at the university of florida confirmed the sample is from a mountain lion. state wildlife experts are looking into this. antoinette: ahead, breaking details after shots are fired and a campus police cruiser is struck in boston. the investigation to see if the events are connected. a family's fear after a body is

antoinette: boston police investigating after shots are fired on parker street in roxbury. this was around 1:30 this morning. a wentworth campus police cruiser hit by a car on that same street. four people were in the vehicle. one was arrested. the other three got away. boston police say the officer was taken to the hospital but will be okay. randy: also breaking, boston police searching for a suspect after a shooting in dorchester. one man is in serious condition devon street. his condition does not appear to be life-threatening. nicole: a grisly discovery here in lawrence. a man's decapitated body found along the river yesterday. his head a short time later. and though the district attorney is not identifying the body at this time, a local family fears it could be their missing teen son. >> my fear is that, you know, it's him.

westerly wind that's going to influence us, keeping us dry here locally, but also keeping some flurry action through much of upstate new york as we move into the forecast ahead today and tomorrow. temperatures heading out the door right now are mainly in the 30's. 34 in worcester. springfield at 31. downtown boston holding onto that 40 degrees, but it's all about that wind-chill factor, which right now is down into the 20's and 30's. feeling like 27 in worcester. feeling like 32 in boston. and even onto the mid 30's. heading into the height of the afternoon, temperatures will manage to inch toward 50 degrees. but the wind chills are basically what it feels like, it's still in the 40's even along the coastline. but boston seeing a wind chill in the height of the afternoon of only 42 degrees. and some colder air rushes into the region as we head into tomorrow morning as we see wind chills down into the low to mid 20's. futurecast looking dry through the forecast today. but what we're watching are a few clouds moving into our
