dense fog early followed by a slow increase in sunshine. highs today near 49. the woman charged in the death of nicole lovell will appear in court today. a bond hearing is scheduled for natalie keepers this morning at 11 in mongomery county. keepers is charged with being an accessory before the fact of first degree murder. she's also accused of disposing of lovell's body and being an accessory after the fact. a hearing planned yesterday was canceled. david eisenhauer is charged with first degree murder and abduction in connection to lovell's death. a neighbor of lovell's told the new

daughters gave law enforcement information that may have had a role in the arrests. according to the report, lovell told friends hours before she disappeared that she texted an 18 year old- on an instant messaging app- and planned for a meeting. wdbj7's justin ward will be in the courtroom today for keepers hearing. we will have updates later today and online at wdbj7-dot-com hundreds of family, friends, and people from the community remembered the life of nicole lovell last night. her visitation was at the mccoy funeral home in blacksburg. lovell's funeral is scheduled for today at three. attorneys on both sides of the kevin quick murder retrial made their opening statements yesterday in roanoke federal court. quick's mother also testified. six alleged gang members are charged with the abduction and murder of the waynesboro police reserve officer. a judge in charlottesville declared a mistrial last may after one of the defendants got their hands on the jury pool. two people charged

death of a toddler in grayson county were denied bond. john underwood and terra connell appeared in court both are charged with murder and child enforcement say 15 sawyers was attacked by their pit the two were when the attack the toddler later died at a hospital because of the injuries. the baby found inside a franklin county dumpster revealed it was a stillborn. the mother, 24- dellis, is in roanoke city jail. she's charged with a felony count of unlawful concealment of human remains. the investigation started when dellis was taken to carilion roanoke memorial hospital, with symptoms consistent to recently giving birth to a third trimester baby. she denied having a baby. investigators searched her home and interviewied her family. that led police to a franklin county dumpster site, where the newborn's body was found. rocky mount assistant town manager matthew hankins: "finding the body in the dumpster was a difficult circumstance for all of our officers, that's not a siutation you want them to be in or

today in a break-in investigation and more than 100- thousand dollars worth of vandalism in galax. the president of vaughan-bassett furniture company, says someone broke in monday night, and poured black stain into their finishing tanks. the cleanup could take days, possibly even longer. the galax city manager says this is the first time he's every seen something this bad done to the company. don't that they have either. we're trying to work with them to determine the length of time and what the impact may be. police are still looking into persons of interest. two business owners in danville are asking for increased police presence across the city. both the six-one-six and the north theatre sit along north main street. both owners say there hasn't been a serious issue with crime at their locations yet-- but various shootings across the city worries them. as they invest into their business, the owners want the police to invest in their customers safety. steve delgiorno, the 616 "in addition, we think that spawns even more people to come in and want to invest." wayne alan, north theatre"i think that's an important thing when the community can bind together, one looking after the other danville's police chief agrees that community policing could be a good thing but it's not as simple as it sounds. and he says the department is short staffed. right now, he is working to hire four more officers. according to a new roanoke college

"feeling the bern." more than 500 likely voters say in a head to head matchup they prefer democrat bernie sanders over republicans donald trump, ted cruz, and marco rubio. voters only like hillary clinton over trump, and she ties with cruz and rubio. professor harry wilson says the poll shows right now sanders has the least amount of people that do not like him. (harry wilson/institute for policy and opinion research director):"from the polls right now we have a lot of un- popular candidates, the only candidate above water right now in terms of favorability is bernie sanders and that could easily change in another month because you could argue the flavor of the month if you will." wilson says he's very concerned how the next president will work to unite the dividing country. virginia voters cast their primary ballots march first. governor mcauliffe and lieutenant governor ralph northam are proposing a $9 million program for birth control access. women with little or no health insurance would be eligible for free. virginia is following a similar program in

saved money. colorado's teen birth rates have declined by 40 percent between 2009 and 2013. eliminate a number of unplanned pregnancies and this program will provide better while covering long- lasting birth control like intra-uterine devices and skin implants. "once you have it implanted you don't have to remember to take it like a pill. the reversible component is you when you are ready to have a child or have your second child" state leaders say this is a bipartisan effort. it will be voted on during the 2016 general assembly session. a bill that would force death row inmates to die by electric chair if lethal injection drugs aren't available is gaining momentum in virginia. right now, the commonwealth is out of lethal injection drugs. state leaders are frantically searching for some, as the

accident has one southbound lane of i-81 blocked in rockbridge county. expect delays near the route 60 lexington exit. dozens of streets across the new river valley and roanoke valley are flooded right now. jeb stuart highway in patrick county is the only main road affected so far. there's high water covering that road near woolwine highway. workers are installing a gas line in northwest roanoke. the westbound lanes of melrose avenue and lafayette boulevard will be blocked near staunton avenue. expect delays there from 7 p-m to 5-a-m both tonight and tomorrow. drivers will detour onto 25-th street. drainage work could slow you down today in buena vista. crews are scheduled to replace a pipe on route 60 from eight this morning to six this evening. that road will close and there will be a 20-mile detour through rockbridge county and amherst county. one construction project is holding up another in downtown

work on the james river interceptor was supposed to be finished last march. contractors are almost done with the project, which involves replacing the city's largest sewer line. leaders at nearby amazement square are waiting for the work to wrap up, so that they can start a project of their own. a nearly 7-million dollar expansion needs to be finished by january, when a traveling exhibit is scheduled to open at the museum. ashleigh karol/marketing director: "we're going to proceed as planned in the spring and it will be tight for sure, but we'll do the best we can to get under roof and ready to host the national exhibition in january of next year." city leaders say the interceptor should be finished by may 7, when a large event is scheduled to happen in riverfront park. management at the buena vista 9-1-1 communications center are thinking about moving to a new building. the center is currently in this building near downtown, but it could move to this old funeral home down the street. they said the county has a purchase contract on the building. the cost of the building is 375 thousand dollars. they're in the process of

architectural study to determine which upgrades are needed and how much it will cost. people there say change is needed. scott bedell: "the space available is very limited both inside and outside and some moves forward for the area, specifically radio systems upgrade has prompted us to look at some other options." leaders think the move would help emergency services in lexington, buena vista, and rockbridge county work more efficiently together. a basketball star in lynchburg is also nation. what honor he was chosen for, next. a local school

past couple of years. some of the great players have gone on to do big things in college and the nba, so i hope i can follow in their footsteps." v-e-s basketball coach curtis staples was also on the mcdonald's all- american team. he played in the 19-94 game and went on to be a standout player at the university of virginia. this year's game will be played march 30th. several parents in montgomery county are relieved after the school board overturned its decision to change school start times. now, schools won't be opening any earlier. the school board heard from parents for months about concerns with proposals about changing the times. superintendent mark miear also opposed the change. monday night at the board meeting he suggested focusing on secondary students by changing the school breakfast plan and shortening bus routes to help their sleep schedule. amy hogan/mother: "i'm really pleased that the board members were able to see the challenges and obstacles that were going to make this implementation impossible. i think we're all still united in trying to make meaningful change that will help the secondary students

hampshire. president obama visited a mosque and school in baltimore, maryland to correct what he called a "hugely distorted" impression of muslim americans. ibrahim hooper is the communications director for the council on american-islamic relations. he says muslim- americans are more afraid now than at any time in history - even after 9-11. muslim-americans inside the islamic society of baltimore told president obama about the increased bias they face. president obama: "they talked about how their children were asking, are we going to be forced out of the country? are we going to be rounded up? why would they treat us like that?" ibrahim hooper/spokesman, council on american-islamic relations: "thanks to donald trump, ben carson and others, islamophobia has been mainstreamed, which makes it all the more dangerous." president obama called on muslim- americans not to become cynical. this was his first visit to a u-s mosque since taking office. a pennsylvania judge has refused to

people who live in flint. he says they shouldn't have to pay for water they can't drink. an estimated 21- thousand customers have continued paying their bills despite the water problems. the widow of an illinois police officer has pleaded not guilty to money laundering charges linked to her husband's embezzlement of funds. fox lake police lieutenant joe gliniewicz tried to stage his suicide last year as a murder. authorities found out he was worried about going to prison for misuse of funds from a police youth program. his wife melodie is accused of using money from that same program to pay for personal expenses, including a trip to hawaii. prosecutors say she stole up to 100- thousand dollars from 2008 to 20-14. if convicted she faces a maximum of 39 years in prison. a cab driver kidnapped and held captive for a week by 3 escapees from a california jail is sharing his story. long hoang ma says he picked the men up outside a restaurant around the same time officials realized there had been a jailbreak. as the manhunt got underway, the
