okay. . leaders at danville regional medical center say a community walk last friday was a success. the walk was held in an attempt to help bring the community together, after a recent shooting near the hospital. the event was so well- attended, the hospital is organizing this friday. this walk will begins at 6 friday night at the boys and girls street. anyone is invited to attend. the number of homeless student in the roanoke city public schools system continues to rise. last year, the homeless students by the end of the school year. so far this year, there are nearly 500 homeless students. tomorrow the district will host a homeless awareness day. students made t- shirts to raise awareness and anyone who bought one is encouraged to wear it. so, the homeless campaign has raised more than 10- thousand dollars. us so we've raised an awful lot of money. the school district is buying winter coats with the money. they're also joining forces with the city of roanoke's homeless assistance team for a pilot program. the takata airbag recall is expanding. daimler and mercedes-benz have issued recalls on some 840- thousand cars and vans in the u.s. because of takata airbags that may be defective. honda, ford, nissan and toyota have all been forced to issue recalls because of the defective airbags. those airbags can explode violently and without warning. they have caused at least ten deaths worldwide. nine of them were in the u.s. daimler says the recall is a precautionary measure. mercedes and daimler owners should be notified by the company if their vehicle is under recall. leaders in roanoke county are trying to come up with ways to put the brakes on speeding in several neighborhoods. sarah kennedy lives near canter drive in roanoke county, and says fast drivers are putting her and her child's lives in danger. on tuesday, the board of supervisors' met to work towards a solution.
