in places like it just let up a little bit but you can see generally more snow on way later on tonight. take a little closer places towards hot springs getting heavy bands there. we have gotten a couple inches of snow and already two to 3 inches of snow back like bluefield and richland on wait that move through as we head through the evening. i want to show you this is just pretty much the beginning of the snowstorm itself. it is going to develop down here and eventually move north as we go through the day to. so additional snow is expected before that change over occurs more of a wintry mix by midday tomorrow. head up outside meteorologist robin reed and he has snowfall totals and compiling a list. >> we are, brett. as you know it was cold when it started so the snow was not snowflakes just little crystals and i got the trusty ruler out and i can report 1 inch here. i can report something else.

road in the blacks best of your knowledge and roanoke area dealing with an inch or less in most cases but some of the reports are coming in a little higher. that is where the snow started first. including width bee and harrisburg and there were more in the 2-to 3-inch range and we have been watching the radar brett and i have and we notice it looks like it wants to continue with snow bursts for the next few hours so we can get another inch are two quick quickly and as brett also noticeed it is cold out here. >> yes. for sure. temperatures teens, 20 and no problem stick and we're going seat temperatures go up and it takes much of the day tomorrow. go over that and what happens along with the snow and the sleet and freezing rain. all coming up in the first alert forecast. >> all right. thanks, brent. robin the snow is sending crews out into the bitter cold. to keep roads clear but they're missing more than uphill battle this time around.

hersh buncher is closeed and authority workers were on the scene and barricades were in place. water customers in that area will experience service disruption. but the roads should be opened by morning. >> we're following up on a crash in campbell county that killed three people including a one-year-old boy. police say speed was a factor in the wreck. it happened before 10:00 last night on 622. the toyota was going east and hit a mailbox and embankment. the driver david johnson and others died at the scene. police are investigating. >> deputy is in the hospital after an accident happened just after midnight. deputy zb smyth was responding to a call about a man threatening to jump off a bridge on broken bureau road. he lost control of his vehicle. he was airlifted to roanoke memorial hospital and is in

a buckingham county teen is dead after police say he attack attacked deputies and it happen happened before 1:00 p.m. yesterday. police say the man attacked two people at a store and then ran off. he broke into a nearby home and attacked an older couple living there. authorities say when deputy as received the teen jumped through a window and lunged at them. state police are investigating that tonight. >> fire officials are investigating after an area. it happened around 7:30 this evening in the 1300 block. two people taken to the hospital with nonlife threaten threatening injuries. protesters braved the cold to speak out for the preservation of slave houses at the green field plantation. a few days ago we told you the county is planning to move the buildings this week. demonstrators say they're taking a stand against the eraseer of local history. >> these are the citizens of the county that represent all

starts >> that snow has been falling through the evening and definitely sticking area-wide with temperature its in the steens. an danville way below the freezing. everything falling is sticking right way. some heavy snow moving into the allegheny highlands and bands of heavy snow. starting to let up a little bit towards interstate 77 corridor into north carolina but there is plenty more. where this snow came from it is

what we're seeing. here what is happens as this low develops down here and slow slowly gather some more moisture and head our way through the day the day today. that is where we're going to see the additional snow and eventually the warmer temperature that change over some of that snow to some wintry mix. we know 2-5 inches of snow possible by tomorrow morning. depending on your location. additional 2-4 throughout the day on monday. mixing with sleet at times and we're going to see that change over occur likely between noon and 3:00 tomorrow and then should turn to all rain by about 11:00 monday evening before everything begins to change over to just plain old rain heading into tuesday. snow likely falling steadily tonight. holding steady in the teens and 20. now, what i want to show you is break down the forecast for you tomorrow. 6:00 a.m. everybody is seeing the snow. you can see the surface temperatures around 21 degrees and certainly cold to produce that snow. but watch what happens during the day. about 5000 feet.

up. effectually gets above freezing freezing. snowflakes melt and fall down into the cold air and you get a wintry mix. sleet. some freezing rain along with that snow at times that. will be during the afternoon tomorrow. watch what happens again. surface temperature starts to go up, too, by the evening we're above freezing. still a couple of thousand feet up and no snowflakes and we're above freezing at the surface. that means this is all rain with this coming up late monday night into tuesday. we could see half an inch to 3 quarters of an inch of liquid rain on top of the snow and sleet that we got earlier on monday. so that could be problematic. some ponding water along with that snow. very slushyiness coming up to tuesday. here is the amount. highest amount along pretty much the allegheny highlands all the way down to smyth county where you have seen several inches of snow. and then the amounts start to

anywhere from 2-5 inches heading in towards lynchburg and less into danville. we're going to see that change over occur. here what is happens as far as ice accumulation. this is freezing rain not so much sleet but freezing rain that clings to the trees. highest elevations could see as much as a 10th or quarter of an inch but some is seeing glazeed a 10th of an inch. monitor for you through tomorrow. the thing i want to point out the temperatures won't take place until late in the day. it is going to be in the teens an 20 for a good portion of our monday and then these temperatures the 30s will eventually appear late in the evening. and that is what happens early, late tomorrow night into tuesday we start to see that winter mix change over to plain old rain tuesday and temperatures warm up from there into the 40s by the afternoon. this is going to end up being a little bit of everything over the next 48 hours from snow to sleet to freezing rain and then plain old sloppy rain coming up
