"i think we all rely on the community support that we recieve. it's vital to our operation" the salvation army feeds over 100 people a day. many of them are women and children from the domestic violence shelter turning point. social services director jamie starkey says the biggest need comes when children aren't in the classroom. "we depend on the school to provide for children when they are in school so when the children are out of school for s snow day that causes an increased need for food supply here" starkey says weather has played a big role in fewer donations this year. also, the salvation army's red kettle

do well last year. that's their number one source of funding. "the money that comes from the red kettle campaign. we depend on it to set our operating budget for the year" pasta, canned goods, snacks are among the food items needed. organization in lexington are trying to keep our kids active by giving them more space to play sports. w-d-b-j-7's khiree stewart tells us about a project they're planning and what a difference it will make. chris, hundreds of kids and teenagers play sports through the rockbridge area recreation organization. leaders say they need more places for their teams to practice and hope a new project solves that problem.
