monday and tuesday some showers that will transition possibly into some snow on wednesday is temperatures start to take a tumble the already begun, with northside coming-in as one of the hottest teams in the area. zac glover catches up with the vikings, in this week's edition of hometown hoops weekly. zac glover: the northside basketball team can beat you in a many ways. with guards that can both drive and shoot, and with the power of a boogie basham down low, the vikings polished off a dominant regular season at 21-1 on the year. carlos "boogie" basham, northside senior forward: "it's been a good season. you know, the record is good, and plus, the work that we put in, in the offseason, and at practice and everything. everything is going good." kendrick tucker, northside senior guard: "whoever you get the ball to, you know that they're capable of making a good play. so just from the depth of the bench, and everybody being able to play and compete when they step out
6:20 am
zac glover: winning can certainly make things fun, but the vikings say it's not just the end result on the scoreboard that has made this year memorable. bill pope, northside head coach: "beyond all these things that everyone can see from the stands, i think our strength is that these guys really love to play basketball, and really care about each other." kendrick tucker: "off and on the court, we're just like a big group of brothers. just enjoying each other's company, we talk to each other every day, and it's just like a big family." zac glover: and even though northside hasn't lost a game since early december, they're still looking for ways to improve heading into the playoffs. bill pope: "you have to keep getting better. there's little things that you can tweak and get better at, and those little things might turn into big things." kendrick tucker: "just continue to be true to what we do, and that's just share the ball, hustle on defense, just continue to battle at practice, and don't change anything. just stay consistent." zac glover: and the vikings are hoping that consistency can earn head coach, bill pope, his first state championship in more than 30 years on the sidelines at northside. carlos basham: "it would be good, just to be the first ones to do, and plus, get him his first one. that would mean a lot." kendrick tucker: "every time you come into practice, you see those two big

"you look at other facilities and you say 'why don't we have that here?'" members of the rockbridge area recreation organization are a step closer to making it happen. executive director john trudgeon says athletes have a limited amount of space to practice,. they're planning to extend their practice fields at the brewbaker field complex on this 2 acres of land. "there will be a baseball diamond so there will be baseball practices held there and there will be lacrosse practices in the spring time, soccer practices in the fall. probably even some football practices as well." on top of that, he says they'll also construct a chain

the project will cost around 180- thousand dollars. aside from grants, 50-thousand will come from the city of lexington and rockbridge county through their capital improvements plan. they're planning to start a fundraising campaign later this year. "there are more interest in using facilities then there are to use. so, there's been a lot of cooperation." right now, he says they're in the process of getting the city to accept their plan. trudgeon hopes it's a home run the local athletes. "i think this is just a small step in the right direction." "we're strapped and we've been strapped and this is going to be a significant addition to what we already have." khiree stewart, wdbj7 if approved, trudgeon says construction could begin later this year, and he expects the field to be complete in fall of next year. it's some views of
