investigators caught the teen tuesday afternoon in roanoke without incident, and with significant help from the roanoke city police department. state police say the teen walked out of a low-security juvenile facility on the eastern side of virginia last december and was found with some acquaintances. new at noon, a huge loss in the literary world today. author harper lee has died. several sources from her hometown of monroeville, alabama confirmed lee's death this morning. she's best known for her classic novel, "to kill a mockingbird," which won the pulitzer prize for fiction in 1961. lee suffered a stroke in 2007. harper lee was 89 years old. justice antonin scalia's body will lie hall of the supreme court today. obama will be their respects. weijia jiang has more details on when the public will also the sun had just started peaking above the supreme court when denominational pray for the late

michigan, will analyze test results from private wells in the richmond area. the water conservation group "hands across the lake" says tech's marc edwards has agreed to assess the test results for lead contamination near a coal ash impoundment on the james river. the group has concerns about dominion virginia power's coal ash impoundments at the company's chesterfield power station, near richmond. blacksburg is the latest town in virginia to eliminate questions about criminal history from government job applications. town leaders say the change is based on concerns that the questions can result in discrimination against otherwise qualified candidates. the city of roanoke and montgomery county have already made similar changes to their applications. the town's attorney says background checks will still be a part of the hiring process, but those checks will be done after the best candidate for the job is found. the salem police department has named its officer of the year. the department announced today that chris shelor is salem's police officer of the year for 2015. shelor is being commended for his actions after a
