this is a very unusual homes flying. amanda taylor will spend the rest of her life in prison. montgomery county judge marcus long certified the sentence a jury recommended following taylor's murder trial in november. she asked the judge to reduce her sentence in court this morning and said her father-in-law, charles taylor "didn't deserve to be here anymore." she killed charles taylor in april after stabbing him 29 times. taylor is accused of later shooting her friend, sean ball. former state senator madison marye has died at the age of 90. the shawsville democrat represented western virginia for almost three decades in the general assembly. wdbj7's joe dashiell covered marye for many years, and he's in the studio tonight with

colorful career. jean, madison marye was one of a kind, known for his length of service, his determination to represent his rural constituents, and above all for his sense of humor. senator madison marye: no longer will i be known as mad madison marye, but perhaps landslide marye is more like it. laughter. marye relished his victory in 1979, when he won re-election by fewer than ten votes. he persevered as a politician, introducing his bottle bill requiring a deposit on all beverage containers, more than a dozen times. but it was his stories, many about his uncle billy, that many will remember most. senator madison marye: in fact, my uncle billy once said that if you want to be a leader, you've got to find a bunch of people going somewhere, and get in front of 'em. laughter. marye had friends on both sides of the aisle. today, the news of his death brought tributes from republicans. 9th district congressman morgan griffith said

from the days when they both served in the general assembly. he described marye as a feisty legislator and a fierce advocate for his rural constituency. joe dashiell wdbj7 donald trump is scheduled to speak at radford university next monday, ahead of the super tuesday primary. it will take place at noon at the dedmon center. doors will open at 10 a-m. tickets are available online, you can find more information on our website, wdbj7-dot-com. trump's campaign has yet to confirm details for a trip to salem for monday as well. salem city officials and trump campaign staffers say no plans have been finalized. trump is on a roll after taking the nevada caucus, but his top competitors say there's still time to catch up with the frontrunner. he made an appearance at regent university in virginia beach today to connect with virginia voters. there he speculated about a possible vice president pick. donald trump/(r) presidential candidate: "i do want somebody that's political because i want to get lots of great

passed, it's just sitting there, including proper healthcare and other things." marco rubio, who finished second in nevada is trying to brush off trump's victory, saying there are many more delegates left to win. so far trump has won 81 delegates, with rubio and ted cruz at 17 a piece. super tuesday is the big prize though, with 595 delegates at stake. the three top contenders will face off tomorrow during the next g-o-p debate. a roanoke fire- fighter is in jail without bond tonight facing a felony sexual assault charge. botetourt county sheriff's deputies and the u.s. marshals service arrested david bocock for forcible sodomy of a minor, which happened sometime in 2012 according to court paperwork. a city spokeswoman says bocock is a lieutenant with 25 years of service in the fire-ems department and has been suspended without pay. bocock was also a substitute teacher at lord botetourt high school and has been dismissed according to a school division administrator. he earned a spot on the substitute list

background checks in january, and only taught one day. police in lynchburg have one person in custody, following a standoff this morning. officers went to a home on lakeside drive to arrest a man and search the property. the man initailly wouldn't cooperate, so officers surrounded the house with weapons and a k-9 unit. two people left the house around 11:30 and one was put in handcuffs. police have not said why they wanted to arrest the person or search the property. if you're a cox cable may be coming to television. the company is transitioning to an all digital platform, which means it will no longer carry analog t-v service. wdbj-7's shayne dwyer is here with a look at the device you may need to plug in to keep seeing us on your t- v, shayne? a look at the device itself let's talk about cox is going all

(jeff merritt/vice- president of roanoke operations):"it is part of the evolution of the video product, i think that's something that, just as we're not watching black and white tv's anymore, we're also continuing to transition, we've gone through a digital transition in the broadcast world just a few years ago, and now this is part of our conitnuing transition.." cox will start rolling this out at the end of march and will cut off analog this summer. you'll need to rent a mini-box for every t-v that plugs directly into the wall. the first box for the first year is free, and after that it's 2-99 a month. medicaid customers get a better deal. with the box you'll get some more channels and an on-screen guide.

at a very early age. prosecutors in connecticut are trying to get michael skakel's murder conviction for the 1975 death of his teenage neighbor reinstated. he was convicted in 2002 for the murder of martha moxley. he had been serving more than ten years in prison when a lower court threw out the conviction, saying skakel received inadequate information from his lawyer. prosecutors say

country can't reach it's potential... unless we all do. together. a stronger country. good evening everyone, i'm karen loftus with your look at sports. with all of the talent that has come through hargrave military academy's post- graduate basketball program, there have been some pretty special individual throughout the years. but the show that hargrave's braxton couple of weeks ago, won't be easily forgotten. zac glover explains, in this

weekly. zac glover: hargrave's braxton beverly says he's been working on his game basically since birth. braxton beverly, hargrave guard: "i've lived it, breathed it. everything since i was a little kid. i grew up with a basketball in my hands." zac glover: the kentucky-native came to hargrave in chatham, virginia, with hopes of refining his skills before going onto play at college. but what happened a couple of weeks ago against genesis academy, went beyond expectation. a.w. hamilton, hargrave head coach: "you just don't see that very often. it was a special day. you know, we had a community walk to raise awarness for cancer. we had a pink out, the whole gym is covered in pink. we're raising money for the jimmy v foundation, and to have that happen at the end of it, it was breathtaking." zac glover: after scoring 24 points in the first half alone, braxton picked up right where he left off in the second. a.w. hamilton: "we came out in the second half, and i just told the guys, 'hey, look, braxton's got the hot hand, let's ride this thing out as long as we can." braxton beverly: "i hit like two or three threes off of ball-screens." a.w. hamilton: "i had two guys that must have set a hundred ball-screens that night." jeremy williams, hargrave guard: "he

didn't even want to shoot. we just wanted to feed him." a.w. hamilton: "they did not want me to take him out of the game." braxton beverly: "it just seems like every shot you shot just felt right on the money. that's what everyone i shot felt like." zac glover: braxton beverly scored 70 points in a single game. braxton beverly: "it was kind of hard to believe i did it after it happened. but you have to go back in the gym the next day, and get right back after it." zac glover: and it's that gym-rat attitude that braxton's teammate, jeremy williams, has also adopted since coming to hargrave, after graduating from glenvar high school just last year. jeremy williams: "it's definitely not an easy place to be, and it's not cut out for everybody, so you have to want to come here. you have to be committed to whatever your reason was to come here, but i don't think i could've come to a better school, in terms of getting me better, and preparing me for that next level of life." zac glover: and while jeremy is still solidifying his plans for that next level, braxton beverly has committed to play his college ball at miami of ohio. but hargrave coach, a.w. hamilton, says braxton's career could go even farther. a.w. hamilton: "i won't be suprised some day if he's playing in the nba. i mean, he works that

keep getting better. he's going to have bigger moments than this 70." braxton beverly: "it'll definitely be one i'll remember for the rest of my life. keep practicing, keep getting better, and keep working hard, and you know, it might happen again." zac glover: in chatham, zac glover, wdbj7. wall street ends the day with gains. the dow rose 53 points. nasdaq added 39.
