scanner 00;00;46;16 "one officer down. i don't know where the suspect is." officer ashley guindon was shot and killed saturday on her first day on patrol with the prince william county police department in virginia. (sot police chief) she clearly had a passion to serve others that went beyond herself. guindon and two other officers were responding to a domestic dispute saturday night, about 30 miles outside of washington dc. police arrested 32 year old ronald hamilton, an active duty army staff the pentagon. they say he shot and killed his wife then opened (sot sharon zimplemann/ neighbor) it was very scary. i heard the shots, like 4 to 5 shots back to back. yellow tape roped off the crime scene sunday. residents paid their hospital where officers are recovering (sot betsy) stupid is so sad. guindon, a 6 year marine corp in friday.

was posted to the department's twitter page welcoming her and another officer. it said be safe. hamilton is scheduled to be in court on monday. brian webb for cbs news. a lynchburg teen who was injured in a high-profile accident last fall has died after being hospitalized for months. ivy adkins died yesterday afternoon. her family reported the news on a social media page that was set up after her accident. adkins and her cousin, natalie matthews, were badly injured in october when the car they were riding in crashed in the lake vista neighborhood of forest. investigators say they were riding with christian riddle, who was driving a stolen car. he's facing criminal charges related to the accident. a grand jury is scheduled to take up his case on tuesday. a danville man has been charged with murder. demetrius farmer was arrested by danville police in connection to a killing in north carolina last month. he's charged with first degree murder and kidnapping. farmer is being held

danville city jail. a ku klux klan rally turns violent in california. fighting broke out between k-k-k demonstrators and counter-protestors yesterday. police say three people were stabbed during the incident, and about 13 were arrested. authorities aren't sure who started the fight. they're still looking for a man in connection to the assaults. civil rights activist al sharpton plans to lead a rally protesting tonight's oscars ceremony. the academy is facing backlash for the lack of black oscar nominees this year. sharpton says his message isn't just for the academy, but the advertisers that support the show. 'you couldn't break your contracts this year, but we don't want you to sign up anymore to advertise at the academy awards until they have diversified and included the academy and until we get some power in these studios. otherwise we will boycott.'" the rally is organized by the national action network, a civil rights group that sharpton founded.

cleveland, detriot new york and atlanta. a virginia student with threatening her school through social media, using emojis knife. used on mobile devices and sometimes take the place of words. the washington post reports the middle school student posted the message on december. it also included the words "killing" and "meet me in the library tuesday." in a search warrant, acknowledges she messages under another student's name. she's charged with threatening the school and computer harassment. president obama has launched take your child to the lab week. it's a version of take your child to work day that focuses on america's science laboratories instead of corporate workplaces. the president hopes to encourage young people, especially girls and minorities, to pursue stem careers. over 50 national labs are opening their doors this week to almost 5-thousand students from elementary to high school. the u-s coast guard reports that 16

carnival cruise workers in the gulf of mexico. the rescue happened yesterday afternoon. pittsburgh steelers linebacker james harrison posted pictures of the scene on instagram the coast guard says migrants are taken to the next port of call, where immigration officers will be waiting for them. earlier this month a disney cruise ship picked up 12 reported migrants. speaking of disney, starting today, disneyland and walt disney world will charge demand- based prices. that means the resorts will charge three different prices for park tickets depending on the time of year. the calendar will be divided into value, regular and peak season. a value pass, monday through thursday when school is in, will drop to 95 dollars. on peak days and summer weekends the price will shoot up to over a 100 dollars a day. disney says the "surge pricing" will hopefully help spread out visitation to the parks. new york senator chuck schumer is looking to set new rules on the size of airline seats. he's calling for the federal aviation administration to set

developmental disabilities lead fulfilling lives. katie's place is a non-profit that teaches life skills to adults with these disabilities. from preparing meals and learning how to use every day appliances to enjoying each others' company, katie's place strives to make life normal. the organization relys heavily on donations and volunteers. right now, northern roanoke baptist church is where
