404. in the meantime, if you' re heading out this morning, you can take 4042 u.s. one south and get back onto i-95 southbound. or to wickham road. take that down. but detours and construction. keep that in mind for your morning drive on i-95 southbound. regression crash on goldenrod road, coming up. jason: some local communities are waking up to smoke this morning, after a brush fire burned just behind their homes. michelle: and the danger isn' t over today. firefighters checked for hot spots overnight after this 10-acre fire in oak hill, in volusia county. alex villarreal is live. she is at that scene. alex, the forestry service says we need to be on alert. alex: yes, michelle. the good news is that the risk is not high. it is described as moderate. that is in volusia county and

in central florida. you can see that it is calm out here now, no sign that there was a large-scale wildfire yesterday, but the smell of burned brush is strong. that' s after yesterday' s wildfire, which tore through up to 10 acres here in the oak hill area. heavy smoke could be seen rising from the burning brush. and look at those bright orange flames. the fire spread dangerously close to some structures here off highlander road. it was moving fast, even jumping a canal. fortunately, crews were able to stop the blaze before it could reach the buildings. so none were damaged, and no one was hurt. but it' s still not clear what started the fire. a forestry crew was planning to watch for flare ups. today' s moderate risk is a level two out of five, where one is low risk and five being extreme danger. and that extends into marion,

brevard counties. so we will be watching this thread for you today. if we see anything dangerous crop up, we will bring you the information here on air and on our website. jason: thank you. today, this bogus batman goes before a judge. we first showed you the caped crook last month. and now deputies say he' s been caught. the suspect is facing charges for as many as eight robberies. brett connolly shows us how deputies finally tracked him down. brett: good morning. police say this is batman unmasked. juan nieves-morales. they say he was feeding a massive drug habit. take a look at this video from last month. he robs a dollar general and a 123 dollar store back to back in

they say he dropped the costume because he was being noticed. but he dropped his cellphone, and he was able to be tracked down. police say he is a heroin addict with a thousand dollar per day habit. >> they love the drugs more than eating food or doing other basic life things. brett: officials say he is linked to robberies beginning in january, the most recent last week. is facing a number of charges, including armed robbery. michelle: the man accused of firing a deadly shot inside a sanford bar will answer to a manslaughter charge today. detectives believe james pritchard is responsible for killing oceanette hampton inside the cool breeze bar back in january. his attorney previously admitted pritchard acted recklessly when a fight broke out, but says he did not mean to kill anyone. this morning, lake county leaders will vote on a new push for the governor to pardon the

in 1949, four black men, accused of raping a white woman, were all arrested without evidence. one was killed by the sheriff, another by a racist mob. the other two men have since died, but their families want their names cleared. the county commission will take up a resolution at their meeting this morning that would urge the governor to act. so far, governor rick scott has not commented on the case. in commitment 2016, it' s a coast to coast battle for delegates. jason: super tuesday is here, and it means the biggest delegate haul of this election so far. here' s a look at what' s at stake. 13 states cast their votes for candidates, which could pave the path to the nomination for one of them. tracie potts as a preview from washington dc. >> donald trump is helping to build on his front status today.

two other students were hurt trying to escape the scene. none of the injuries were life-threatening. the shooter is charged with attempted murder. a motive has not been identified. michelle: space-x will make it' s fourth attempt to launch a falcon nine rocket from cape canaveral today. leaders are aiming to lift off at 6:35 tonight. the third attempt to send the rocket into space was scrubbed on sunday. space-x is blaming oxygen levels that rose too high at launch time. the rocket will carry a boeing satellite into orbit. jason: it is 6:10 a.m., and the weather looks pretty good for that launch. michelle: amy sweezey joins us. amy: our biggest concern maybe clouds at the time the window opens, 635. there will be some clouds through the evening, and to the overnight. that, at this point, is what we are watching for.

service says there' s a moderate risk of wildfires across the area today. monday, a fire burned 10 acres in volusia county, and put several buildings in danger. jason: astronaut scott kelly returns to earth today after nearly a year at the international space station. kelly will be landing in kazakhstan this afternoon, then fly to houston tomorrow. kelly' s mission will help nasa determine the impacts on the body, for long flights, like the one astronauts will one day take to mars. happening in the they had local , deputies step up their efforts to get you to buckle up. michelle: it' s the yearly click it or ticket campaign. jazmin walker shows us what they have planned. jazmin: for the next few weeks orange county deputies will be , out checking to make sure your seat belt is fastened, and that your kids are secure in their car seat. the most recent numbers from the cdc show 87% of people in florida use their seat belts. that' s higher than the national average of 86%.

deputies will be stationed at various locations in the morning and afternoon. today, you can look for them on silver star road at powers drive between 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. just in case you' re wondering, not wearing a seat belt in orange county is a $114 fine. if your child isn' t wearing a safety restraint, it' s a $164 fine. orange county deputies say their goal is to keep more people from being seriously hurt in car crashes. other locations include goldenrod road area is colonial, and avalon park. michelle: thank you. a volusia county man is accused terrorizing a family with a road rage. >> some guy just tried to run us off of the road in a black car, and he pulled a gun. and i have a baby in the car. and he aimed it at us and my husband, like, swerved to get away from it. michelle: the woman says michael sousa drove up quickly behind

deltona, nearly causing an accident. the husband says he shouted at sousa to slow down, and sousa deliberately swerved at them. then the family says susa threaten them with a gun. the family got his license plate number and police were able to quickly arrest him. right now, the u.s. army' s elite delta force is working to remove top isis leaders in iraq. the group has been preparing for the operation for several weeks. secretary of defense ash carter says the force will conduct raids, seize places and people, and free isis-held hostages. carter also says the u.s. will play a bigger role in helping iraqi forces retake the city of mosul from isis hands. jason: the fda is taking new action to inform women about the risks of the birth control implant essure. they are calling for it to carry the strongest safety warning called a black box label. , risks include allergic reactions and serious tearing. many women who have used the device are calling for the fda to ban it altogether. michelle: having trouble with

getting more sleep might be the answer. jason: here' s a study that has a lot of people talking this morning. university of chicago researchers found a lack of sleep can boost the chemical in your body that causes you to overeat, especially sweet, salty and high fat foods. also known as delicious. those researchers say it is the same effect that marijuana has on the body, that gives people the munchies. does watching delicious food make you want to overeat. jason: who would not want to go for a burger at 6:19 a.m.? this will be a really pleasant day to have lunch outside. amy: we will be warmer than yesterday. we' re headed to the 80' s in a lot of areas. you might' ve thought so yesterday, but we are in the 70' s. getting the kids to school this morning, mainly clear skies.

along the coast, almost as warm, a degree or two side. -- shy. we will be at 79 in palm bay. a little breezy this afternoon. but the risk is pretty low. on the intracoastal, a little chop for boaters. this afternoon, rip currents are the strongest. tomorrow, a cold front coming through. it is not very strong. a couple of isolated sprinkles and some clouds. that is all we will get from this front. once it passes by, the wind is out of the south again on thursday, and of our next front. we will stay warm despite the front coming through. another front on friday.

brett: breaking news, numbers just released about a half hour ago. there from an nbc news, surveymonkey, and the wall street journal. the headline, donald trump' s lead has shrunk, but not by a lot. these of the first new results since jeb bush dropped out of the race. he is a 19 point lead on marco rubio. it was 20 last week, while ted and john kasich fall further behind. on the democratic side, bernie sanders is chiseled away at hillary clinton' s lead. he is 10 points behind. last week, 11. the numbers that matter, how people vote today. we continue in washington with nikole killion. nikole: this, by far, one of the biggest days in the rush for the white house. it could be make or break. mr. trump: we will win, win, win.

they put our threat level today as moderate for volusia and surrounding counties in central florida. it is common out here right now. -- cal m out here right now, very calm. but the smell of burned brush is still strong. take a look at this. a map that shows the moderate risk in yellow. those counties are in moderate risk. a fire tore through the oak hill area yesterday. heavy smoke could be seen rising from the brush. it was dangerously close to i later wrote. it was moving really fast, even jumping a canal. fortunately, crews were able to stop the blaze. nobody was hurt, and nothing was damaged.

phone to help the fbi. apple says that would create a dangerous precedent. for the first time in a decade, supreme court justice clarence thomas has broken his silence. this was during oral arguments. thomas asked 10 questions to an attorney with the justice department. the case has to do with a law that bans anyone who has a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction from owning a gun. thomas has said in the past that the time should be spent for opposing lawyers to make their case. jason: today, we' re heading to the university of central florida, where there' s a big announcement about the downtown campus. ucf president john hitt and orlando mayor buddy dyer are set to speak this morning. tomorrow, ucf leaders will present their plans to the board of governors in hopes of getting $20 million in state funding. the city of orlando has already pledged $75 million. next on sunrise a price hike at , the pump. why you' ll want to stop for gas today. michelle: plus, nearly a year in space, complete. brett: nasa astronaut scott kelly just woke up on the

, orbit. scott' s mission also providing some insight into a potential future mars mission. scientists will be studying the impact of nearly a year in space on the human body. his identical twin brother mark is part of the deal, serving as an earth-based comparison subject for scott' s experiences and also the physical changes for his body. kelly expected to touch down in kazahkstan just before midnight tonight eastern time. he will then head to houston for a battery of tests. jason? back over to you. jason: and nasa' s investing in the potential revival of supersonic jet travel. the space agency has given lockheed martin a $20 million contract to develop a passenger jet that can fly faster than the speed of sound. nasa says the plan is to make flying safer, greener, and quieter. i think a lot of folks are being interested in getting across the country in half the time in one of those.

a live look right now at i-4. work has picked back up on the i-4 ultimate project. traffic officials tell us they are hopeful that things will be back to normal and fully staffed by friday. the project was temporarily shut down last week after a worker was killed by a dump truck along wymore road near kennedy boulevard wednesday. since then, project leaders have been performing safety reviews, hoping to prevent another deadly accident. some parts of central florida saw a gas price spike overnight, and the rest of us will be seeing it soon. aaa says prices will be rising at least 10 cents a gallon in march. they blame spring break travel demand, and refinery maintenance. orlando' s average right now is $1.65, but several stations jumped above that in the last 24 hours. jason: it' s super tuesday. what to watch for this morning as the polls open. michelle: and this morning the today show has crews across the nation to cover it all. here' s a preview of what' s ahead at 7:00 on wesh 2.
