12:16 am
[ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: thank you for being here. i know that you have a show tonight. >> yeah. i'm exhausted after that game. >> jimmy: i mean, right? >> i'm going to have no voice tonight now, jimmy fallon. >> jimmy: no, that's not 'cause of my fault. >> it's going to be your fault. >> jimmy: that's not true at all. no, no, no. >> we're so in sync we finish each others -- >> jimmy: i've never heard throwing shapes. i never -- >> we finish each others -- >> jimmy: sandwiches. >> yeah. >> jimmy: frozen, frozen, yeah. look at this, by the way. i was gonna say how pretty you are on the cover of "interview" magazine. congrats. [ cheers and applause ] >> thanks, james. >> jimmy: and this is the cool girl issue. >> is it? >> jimmy: yeah, i think it says on the side. queens of cool right there. queens of cool. >> yes, all the queens of cool are on the inside. [ laughter ]
12:17 am
outside as well. >> no. >> jimmy: but thank you, thank you for being here. and doing this. did you have game night in ireland. do you have game night? >> it's not really a thing, i have to say. i was quite intimidated coming on to do this because i've been around americans before when they play games. [ laughter ] and you're really competitive. >> jimmy: i was smashing the table. >> you were like really aggressive. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: i'm not that aggressive. >> i mean i loved you before. no, you're still great. >> jimmy: you are my best partner. we got along together. it was perfect. throwing shapes. i mean, right? show off, i don't know how you got that? but we had something there. >> show off was from one showoff to another. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: i guess that it was, yeah. >> but yeah, so it's something that i've been around a little bit. my friends threw me a birthday party a couple years ago in l.a., and she requested herself that it be game night. i didn't want it to be game night, but it turned into, for my birthday. [ laughter ] and so, thanks.
12:18 am
>> surprise for me. >> jimmy: it's something you've never done before. yeah. >> and so we did it, by the end of the night i mean i was emotionally drained and tired and barely knew my own name. you know. >> jimmy: yeah. >> really took it out of me. >> jimmy: it really did take it out of you. >> yeah. >> jimmy: but i mean being irish, it ended in a sing-along or something? [ laughter ] >> because that's all we do. >> jimmy: that's all we do. >> well, you know. >> jimmy: exactly. >> being irish yourself. >> jimmy: i just lost the accent, but, yeah, absolutely. [ laughter ] no but it really is true. it usually ends with someone singing a song or something like that. >> yeah. i think you can be at a wedding or a christening or a funeral and it will end in song and wherever -- i think it's more so the older generations will just randomly, they'll be talking to you and then they'll start to sing. [ laughter ] you know what i mean? >> jimmy: it's a beautiful thing. >> and everyone stops what they're doing and just pays attention to this older person. >> jimmy: i went to kinsale in ireland with my sister.
12:19 am
we went there and we stayed in a b.n.b. and we were there and the owner said, "well, if you'd like to have one more drink with us, just" -- >> he was irish, too. >> jimmy: yeah. if you didn't get it. >> if you didn't get that. >> jimmy: it was arnold schwarzenegger. he said come on in. but he was the owner, the husband and wife. and he goes, yeah. and he goes, come on in. and the whole town comes in to the pub and they lock the door. >> yes. it's a lock-in. >> jimmy: a lock-in. i've never heard of this. >> yes. >> jimmy: the whole town's in. and they sing songs and the drums and he's playing guitar and singing. >> oh, my god. >> jimmy: me and my sister were movies. [ laughter ] this really happens in ireland? >> in like leap year or something. >> jimmy: oh, we were crying. we were like the greatest thing >> yeah. >> jimmy: we were so happy. >> every single gathering that we have at home, even if it's just like a group of people that get together on sunday and have a drink, it will usually end up with you drinking with the owner of the pub. >> jimmy: yeah. >> and the whole idea of a

get to drink in the pub and the guards who are our policemen wouldn't know about it. but they're usually in the lock-in. [ laughter ] they're usually in there with you. >> jimmy: yeah, yeah, yeah. >> so, yeah. i mean, i've grown up with that, really. >> jimmy: yeah. are you back in new york now? because maybe we can have some game nights. you're living here, right? >> yeah. let's have some game nights. although i'm kind of terrified to play a game with you again. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: what are you talking about? that was so fun. >> i mean i love our bond. and i love that. >> jimmy: yeah. >> but i wonder if we spent more time at it, would it get more aggressive. would it ruin our friendship? [ laughter ] >> jimmy: right, if there wasn't a table in between us. >> if there wasn't table in between it could get nasty. there could be some shade thrown, maybe. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: i want to talk about "the crucible" here. oh, my gosh. critics are praising your performance here. this is your first time doing a a play, yeah? >> mm-hmm. >> jimmy: sorry about that. i should have waited for you to finish swallowing there. >> if you could. you know what, i've got a show tonight, jimmy. >> jimmy: i know. i'm so thankful that you're here.
12:21 am
but now it's going really well. we're into our fourth week of previews this week. it's nice. >> jimmy: and are you finding it just exhausting and draining like? >> yeah, you go up and down with it, i think. it's very different than film. i think with film you'll do a a 15-hour day, but those 15 hours are filled with different scenes and different setups and shots and different perspectives sort of on the same thing. whereas with theater, it's sort of like this, you know, this machine and you're adding cogs and wheels to it every night so it can get to the stage where it keeps existing on a film. >> jimmy: and you're doing arthur miller. you're doing, this is -- >> no pressure. yeah. >> jimmy: i mean seriously. it's jumping into the fire there. >> i know. >> jimmy: this is like you're going, let's go, let's do a a play. man. >> last time i was on stage i think i played a tree or a a rock. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: don cheadle! have you ever seen his tree? it's fantastic. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: you gotta see it. next time. it. >> jimmy: yeah, yeah. it's pretty good. >> it's probably not as good as
