get it out of your mind, she said. >> 52 yesterday and by noon today, we'll be sitting into the upper 20s. nearly a 25 degrees temperature change this morning. i am tracking rain on the power of 5 and this is not going to last long as behind that rain, we are seeing cooler temperatures along with snowfall activity. right now, erie county into huron, you're seeing darker greens and the yellows. those are heavier amounts of rain, but this is widespread across northeast ohio. behind the rain, you can see the white all the way into cincinnati. a little bit of freezing rain here. this tracks in, i think, as we head into the 10:00 hour. across the board, we are dealing with high wind warning advisory. excuse me, starting already all the way into about 7:00 p.m. across the board from wayne county and into akron. we're talking about local gusts

also, a lake affect snow advisory starting at 2:00 p.m. today. now, this is restricted for lake geauga, ashtabula county. three to five inches of accumulations where squalls persist could see heavier amounts. nick. >> we know the dream is alive for you and me this morning, janessa. to the powerball jackpot now that has everyone talking. you still have a chance. last night, there were no winners. in fact, our local powerball signs reading 300 million right now. take a look at that, because there are not enough numbers to show it's up to 1.3 billion now. not enough spaces on that sign. the odds to win were 1 in 292 million the numbers drawn were 32, 16, 19, 57, 34, and a powerball number of 13. there were, however, several match 5 winners, including here in ohio. those tickets were purchased at goshe in, and milford. locally, everyone is dreaming about how they would spend the

during a burglary investigation. the department's beloved crime- fighting partner jectro is improving but -- jethro is improving but has a long road to recovery. >> it looks hopeful. >> reporter: the k-9 was shot three times while responding to a burglary activation here at the fisher foods after 1:00 a.m. on saturday. police tell me that jethro was off of his lead while searching the store and that is when he was confronted by the suspect, 22-year-old barfield. barfield fired several shots at jethro and then responding officers returned fire, hitting him once in the leg. barfield ran out of the store and was found a short time later in a nearby yard. as for jethro, the three-year- old dog was rushed to the stark county emergency vet clinic. >> the vet immediately noticed some things in the dogs eyes that would indicate there was swelling on the brain. >> reporter: several officers showing their support for the fellow officer, many spending hours here at the clinic. we love him. >> reporter: all hoping for a

>> the x rays look good as far as like internal injuries and bones and stuff like that. it's going to be a brain thing. >> reporter: in canton, meg >> thank you. and it's not yet known if je it, hro will be able to return to work. meantime, the suspect who shot the k-9 will be charged once released from the hospital. >> now information this morning on a deadly akron bar shooting. a judge setting bond for willie steven hicks iii at $1 million. hicks shot a 39-year-old man in the chest at the heidi ho lounge thursday night killing him. hicks ran off before police arrived and was caught late friday in cleveland. he is now due in akron muni court tomorrow morning and his case will be bound to summit county. another group of pastors in cleveland cancelled an upcoming meeting with cuyahoga prosecutor tim mcginty. the federation of network ministries planned to talk to him later this month about a grand jury's decision not to indict two cleveland police officers in the shooting death

the group said that u.s. rep marcia fudge convinced them to cancel the meeting and support mcginty's opponent in the upcoming primary election. the united pastors in mission cancelled a meeting with mcginty saying they wanted to focus on tamir's family. and meantime, the fbi is looking into death threats against mcginty. the fliers have been posted around the neighborhood offering a reward for proof of kill. the fbi said the posters originated online. and those responsible could face state and federal charges and likely jail time as well. and developing in akron, investigators trying to identify human remains found outside of a house. the summit county medical examiner is working with a professor of anthropology at mercyhurst university to examine a skull and spine. the process could take time to complete. meantime, a forensic's team returned to the location where the remains were found to gather more evidence yesterday. and thank you so much for starting your sunday here with us.

. good morning, everybody. the power of 5 is tracking widespread rain. heavier amounts in eerie and huron county. behind that is that snowfall. western locations fill in lie beach 30:00, noon hour and across the board into northeast ohio. let's show you the threats for today. we're forecasting one to three inches locally across the area today. my major concern is the colder air, the chill. we are talking about windchills, nick. look at this, going into tonight, the single digits. we have the wind advisory until 7:00 p.m., the local gusts of 50 miles per hour. as the kids head to the bus stop tomorrow, we're talking about temperatures in the

>> and we don't like the purple graphics. for sure. that is really, really cool. and trending this morning, a new king of the box office has been crowned. harrison ford becoming the highest grossing actor at the u.s. box office ever, according to box office mojo, thanks in part to the big success ofs this latest film "star wars, the force awakens." the phelps raked in $7 billion in sales and will probably go up as long as the movie stays in the box office as well. a new social network is taking to the social media, peach. it looks similar to twitter/instagram and it was introduced in las vegas. the free ios-only app let's you upload pictures and videos to your friends. peach is set to launch the next few months. the subject of the netflix documentary series "making a murderer" has a new legal team, a chicago attorney as well, and attorneys now from the midwest innocence project will take on steven avery's case. he was convicted in a 2005

this morning, a nuclear capable bomber is safely back hope. and it flow over south korea in a show of strength after the recent nuclear test. the bomber was joined by south korean f-15 and u.s. f-16 fighter jets. last week, north korea claimed they successfully tested a hydrogen bomb but experts said it was not enough to be an h- bomb. and overnight, this is interesting. bear with us. turns out the capture of el chapo has a hollywood twist. some people calling for the arrest of actor sean penn in the wake of guzman's arrest after six months on the run. sounds crazy, but it turns out the academy award-winning actor and director in the with el chapo in mexico while he was still on the run. penn wrote an article for "rolling stone" on the meeting that was published yesterday. in it, guzman openly admits to being the word's biggest drug trafficker and shrugs off high addiction rates.

el chapo is to be extradited to the u.s. as matt gutman explains, it was his ego that helped expose his whereabouts. >> reporter: he wanted to spin his infamy into celebrity. instead, el chapo, drug kingpin and one of the world's most wanted criminals, is back in handcuffs. the drug lord paraded in front of cameras as authorities rushed him back to the same supermax prison he tunneled his way out of last year. and the attorney general said that is thanks to el chapo himself and a healthy dose of vanity. apparently after his escape last year, the infamous criminal wanted a bionic made about -- biopic made about him, so his people reached out to local actors and directors. those communications helped track him down. the final showdown playing out in his home state. the mexican marines raiding a house killing five of his men

including 50-caliber sniper rifles and grenade launchers. they caught up with him after he went through sewer tunnels and hijacked a vehicle you see him caught in the filthy tank top. mexican officials declaring mission accomplished. the u.s. department of justice calling the arrest a victory for the citizens of both mexico and the u.s. he faces charges in multiple u.s. districts for murder and drug trafficking. now, mexico is considering extradition. matt gutman, nbc news, los moches, mexico. and new details, merging about the arrest of tanya couch. according to an affidavit, the mother of the so-called a flewenca -- affluenza teen withdrew $30,000 from the bank account and told the husband he would not see her or their son again, before the pare took off to mexico. the authorities accuse her of helping her son seatingan leave the u.s. to avoid a probation hearing. she's being held on a $1 million bond. ethan couch remains in custody in mexico. and this morning, a small group of armed men are no

of an oregon wildlife refuge. the occupation continues into day 9 today. a spokesperson for amon bundy said the additional group showed up on their own armed with long guns and not at the request of the camp. they soon left about 20 men leftbo -- led by bundy now took over the wildlife refuge last week and protesting the imprisonment of two other ranchers sentenced for arson. the authorities are waiting them out now and have not made a move to end the standoff. and this video is just in overnight after severe storms caused damage across cape coral, florida. the national weather service working to confirm reports of a tornado touchdown. you can see trees were pulled the out of a ground and hopes damaged. the streets flooded parking lots and turning them into ponds. homeowners are busy picking up the debris this morning. no injuries were reported but hundreds remain without power across the region. some scary scenes there with that video in florida. >> definitely.

good folks as they start the repair, you know, and rebuilding, should say. nothing like that here but certainly that cold weather as janessa joins us now. >> and it's one of those up-and- down weekends. >> right. >> and more like spring and fall yesterday. we're going to get a nice dose of winter here. you're waking up to rain and our temperatures. look at the weather bug here, it says 46 degrees. and now, many of us have already seen our high for today, which happened overnight. i want to show you our camera here with the dense fog. we're seeing a cold ground mixing in with that moisture and warmer air and that is allowing for that fog to move into the area. it should burn off as we head into mid-afternoon along with snow. it starts to track in here and you can see we're dealing with widespread rain seeing more heavier doses into richland county and into mansfield area. moving fairly quickly southeast to about 15 to 25 miles an

be in full affect for the rest of the morning. well towards the west cooler temperatures, a well-defined cold front is in affect. you can see from chicago, st. louis, the cooler air is tracking in and mixing in with that current moisture, and that is what is going to allow for that snowfall. i want to show you hour. right now, we're dealing with rain, the temperatures by the noon hour at 35 degrees. by fight p.m., wow, and we're into the upper 20s and that moisture in place, which will allow for that snowfall. you can see by 11:00 a.m., see that pink, that is some sleet, possible freezing rain as the temperature starts to move in here towards elyria. and what you will be at 33 degrees and as we slice into the rest of the day by 2:30, it's more widespread and then going into tonight, this transitions more into lake affect snow and that is why that advisory is in place at

for lake geauga, ashtabula and we're forecasting three to five inches where squalls persist. definitely heavier amounts. the first shot of snow is an equal opportunity forern to see a good -- for everyone to see a good one to two inches of accumulation. the other big weather is ther is our winds coming in from the northwest. we have that advisory in place until 7:00 p.m. tonight. gusts to 45 to 50 miles an hour and now, that is going to bring our windchills down tonight range. this high today, we have seen it overnight as we head into your evening hours. 16 degrees. please bundle up the kids as they're headed to the bus stop tomorrow morning. and daytime highs, 20 with lake affect snow still in affect. the clipper starts to slice through here today afternoon. one to three inches. by thursday, nick, hey, we're back into the 30s. >> all right, janessa. thank you.

this season, we know what is tough. bengals fans are feeling bad this morning as well. last night, cincinnati seemed to have the first play-off win in 25 years locked up. and then a fumble deep in pittsburgh territory with minutes left. a couple of personal foul penalties and the steelers go down and kick the game winner in the final seconds to take it by two points, 18-16. just like that and a total collapse in every sense. now, pittsburgh moves on to play denver and this is lauren brill with more on the browns coaching search. >> reporter: you can scratch adam gace off of the list and browns possible new head coaches. the former bears offensive coordinator reaching a deal with miami yesterday as their head coach of fox sports reporting that jerome henderson, another candidate that the browns already interviewed, will likely join gace in miami. browns is still busy with the search yesterday, the team confirming the interview. the patriots defensive coordinator patricia.

. good morning, 8:29 now. taking a live look outside as one fisherman tries his luck this morning. the warm temperatures still around, but they're going to drop soon. some of you will be under a lake affect snow advisory this afternoon. and this is as we look at the east 55th marina. welcome to the sunday edition of good morning cleveland. i'm nick foley with janessa webb. we have some several developing stories. first, let's get to the forecast. as we said, the warm temperatures in place right now but not very long. >> we're still into the mid- 40s. we have seen our high today that happened overnight. like around 1:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m., we were into the upper 40s and now we're on that downward trend.

>> yesterday, 52 degrees today. by the noon hour, we will be into the upper 20s and nearly 25 degrees difference in our temperatures. and this is happening very quickly across the boarder into -- border into lane county. 45 degrees over new philly and akron-canton at 48. try to soak this in just a little bit along with the rain. seeing heavier amounts of rain towards richland, ashland county, weller into the ashland area. definitely dealing with wet conditions. this is across the board from northeast ohio but behind that is cooler air along with the very strong cold front. slicing our temperatures in half and along with bringing us a snow accumulation. now, this is not lake affect snow throughout the day. this is an opportunity for everyone to get's good dusting, one to two inches of accumulation. we transition to that lake affect snow into tonight.

the man reportedly got away in a champagne or gold-colored ford taurus station wagon similar to the one on the scene. call east lake police if you have any information. a woman was hit and dragged by a car in cleveland out of intensive care. the police searching for the driver. the 61-year-old jeep stuckey was rushed to the hospital tuesday morning after she was hit by a on west 150th street. she was dragged more than 50 feet before the driver fled the scene. been any information about the accident is asked -- anyone with information about the accident is asked to call cleveland police. and cleveland police tell us the man responsible for a head-on crash friday morning was shot several times. the 24-year-old driver hit another vehicle at this intersection of east 71st street and woodland avenue. he was taken to metro health medical center. his current condition unknown. the driver of the other vehicle was not seriously hurt. and happening now, a local gun show is bringing hundreds of people to northeast ohio this weekend.

since president obama announced executive actions into trying to narrow the so-called gunshow loophole. this was the scene outside of the ohio gun and knife military show at the cuyahoga county fairgrounds yesterday. this week, president obama announced the federal crackdown on unlicensed gun dealers who trade at gun shows and online avoiding federal background check requirements. the action has no affect on many private sales. >> i don't think it's changing anything. there are still a lot of people walking around here selling guns. if you ask me, it doesn't make it easier or harder to do anything. >> the president's order also includes adding an additional 200atf agents and investigators to increase enforcement. and with the president's recent announcement on gun control, we are looking at guns by the numbers. 2015 was a record year for background checks. the fbi said more than 23 million were conducted last year making the previous record

checks surged after mass shootings at a colorado movie theatre in sandy hook elementary. december of 2015 was the first month to pass 3 million checks since the fbi started tracking in 1998, the agency stresses there is not a direct link between a background check equaling a gun sale. and a noteworthy statistic the first time in more than 60 years, the cdc said guns and cars are killing americans at the same rate. this is also because car- related deaths have dropped significantly since 1950, and not necessarily because of an increase in gun violence. and the president's comments on gun control come as texas becomes the latest state to enact an open-carry law. reporter andy choi is in texas and found the new law is making an impact in ways you may not consider. >> reporter: putting together the fabric of texas and you will quickly find handcrafted weather comes a long way.

that is the bigger issue, when you factor in the sustained winds. we're down to single digits, possibly negative digits as we head into the overnight. >> covering up, it's the key tomorrow, for sure. and hot on the web this morning, new video e merging of a hunter's rare and strange discovery of a mountain lion. the images are a bit graphic. it's a biological mist re. the lion appears to have fully formed teeth and whiskers growing out of its own head, something you might see at a carnivale tent. the wildlife officials offered up possible theories, including the remnants of a conjoined twin or a tumor that can also grow teeth and hair. very strange to say the least. and in case the hunter is looking to keep the mountain lion preserved, he may want to avoid a local texty dermist who many ohioans said made off with their cash and leaving their

targets the problem and tracks down the information on the owner. >> we're concerned. we didn't hear from him for some time. >> reporter: heather told me her husband shot a coyote in march of 2013 and took it to miller's taxidermist in sheffield village. the owner is seen here in a 2014 journal article about the business. heather's husband has a skin in the game to a tune of a $300 downpayment. >> drove by and there was no response. and then out of the blue, we got a letter from him. >> reporter: after months of hearing nothing, this strange handwritten letter arrived saying for health reasons, the business closed. all of the work would be finished at some point, but -- . >> it's at an undisclosed location and no number to contact him at. >> reporter: the sheffield village said 10 to 15 complaints came into the station about the taxidermist, and some taking to social media, mounting efforts to get more info. i found several people on

the white house. here's more in this morning's democracy 2016. >> reporter: good morning, northeast ohio. sunday, january 10th. we're within one month of iowa and new hampshire. the governor will be spending the night in iowa where he will be holding a town hall meeting in council bluffs after spending five days last week in new hampshire where he held a series of town halls, including this, announce -- since announcing the race for the white house in july. he celebrated the release of two more polls and show him in third place in the granite state, despite the fact he hasn't gaped the traction nationally. we sat down and i asked him about the difference between the state polls and national ones and the impact of all of the town halls. >> they're an hour at a time and people get to look at you, poke you and figure out if they like you. it's a very affective way to be up there. we'll see. we'll see. we're getting close. the mid-terms coming. i'm looking forward to it. >> that has to be one of the frustrating things from the standpoint, you're running two elections.

local one in new hampshire. >> the local one is -- the national doesn't matter. >> right. >> except for fund raising. the only reason why a national poll matters is because people say can he win and makes it hard to raise money. but, you know, we don't elect the people on the basis of what today. we're going to get a little bit of a sense out of a caucus of iowa and then we go to new hampshire with 1.3 million we'll see if kasich sells. >> a quicknoet on new hampshire. you mentioned 1.3 million people. to put that number in perspective, cuyahoga county has 1.2 million people. running for president in the granite state is like running for county executive here. cuyahoga county and cleveland getting ready for the start of the rnc and gets underway 190 days from today, even so, many local businesses are beginning to see some of the 200 million signs at east 21st and st. clair was one of the first cleveland businesses to get

little bit of snow. you can already see well towards the west that dividing line. east locations dealing with rain towards our west and we're dealing with the snowfall due to a big time cold front that is slicing in here. our temperatures from st. louis and into chicago. they're into the single digits, upper teens and some of the cooler air really tracks in here as we head into your mid- afternoon. now, we already have wind advisories in place across northeast ohio ending at 7:00 tonight. we're talking about sustained. a constant wind speed of 25 to 30 miles per hour, local gusts 45 to 50 also an advisory in place for lake affect snow starting at 2:00 p.m. county. three to five inches of accumulation where squalls persist. could see higher amounts. taking you hour-by-hour into the nine hour, we're dealing

to transition into more steady snow going into noon and into 5:00 p.m. 11:45, you can see that temperature drop. we're in the 40s right now and by 91, 35 degrees -- by noon, 35 degrees and cooler air working its way in and it's widespread into 4:00 p.m. and into tonight. we transition more to lake affect snow so it's more restricted towards the east side. and let's show you accumulation here from elyria and nearly three inches 2.5 inches for the greater cleveland area. most areas definitely will see about an inch of -- an inch of accumulation. with this batch of snow, this is going to be an equal opportunity for everybody to snowfall. by major -- my major concern is the winds today coming out of the northwest tonight. up to 20 to 30 miles an hour as i said, gusts to 40 to 50. that brings your windchills

single to negative digits. so, definitely bundle up as you're heading out and about starting work tomorrow. lake affect snow into monday. a clipper starts to slice through. one to three inches and then, hey, we're on that upward trend a little bit by thursday back into the 30s. nick? >> thank you. we got an interesting story for you now. there is a popular at-home test promising to reveal the sex of unborn babies called sneak peak and pregnant moms across the country used it to learn if they're having a boy or girl. investigators learned the advertising claims of sneak peek may themselves be sneaky and some moms to be are suing for what they call a false bill of goods. this is christine main from the dayton area. she took the test and learned she was having a girl. the lawsuit states she picked out her daughter's name, bought clothings and -- bought clothes and told her friend. something else. >> a baby, baby private parts.
