during a burglary investigation. the department's beloved crime- fighting partner jectro is improving but -- jethro is improving but has a long road to recovery. >> it looks hopeful. >> reporter: the k-9 was shot three times while responding to a burglary activation here at the fisher foods after 1:00 a.m. on saturday. police tell me that jethro was off of his lead while searching the store and that is when he was confronted by the suspect, 22-year-old barfield. barfield fired several shots at jethro and then responding officers returned fire, hitting him once in the leg. barfield ran out of the store and was found a short time later in a nearby yard. as for jethro, the three-year- old dog was rushed to the stark county emergency vet clinic. >> the vet immediately noticed some things in the dogs eyes that would indicate there was swelling on the brain. >> reporter: several officers showing their support for the fellow officer, many spending hours here at the clinic. we love him. >> reporter: all hoping for a

the group said that u.s. rep marcia fudge convinced them to cancel the meeting and support mcginty's opponent in the upcoming primary election. the united pastors in mission cancelled a meeting with mcginty saying they wanted to focus on tamir's family. and meantime, the fbi is looking into death threats against mcginty. the fliers have been posted around the neighborhood offering a reward for proof of kill. the fbi said the posters originated online. and those responsible could face state and federal charges and likely jail time as well. and developing in akron, investigators trying to identify human remains found outside of a house. the summit county medical examiner is working with a professor of anthropology at mercyhurst university to examine a skull and spine. the process could take time to complete. meantime, a forensic's team returned to the location where the remains were found to gather more evidence yesterday. and thank you so much for starting your sunday here with us.

since president obama announced executive actions into trying to narrow the so-called gunshow loophole. this was the scene outside of the ohio gun and knife military show at the cuyahoga county fairgrounds yesterday. this week, president obama announced the federal crackdown on unlicensed gun dealers who trade at gun shows and online avoiding federal background check requirements. the action has no affect on many private sales. >> i don't think it's changing anything. there are still a lot of people walking around here selling guns. if you ask me, it doesn't make it easier or harder to do anything. >> the president's order also includes adding an additional 200atf agents and investigators to increase enforcement. and with the president's recent announcement on gun control, we are looking at guns by the numbers. 2015 was a record year for background checks. the fbi said more than 23 million were conducted last year making the previous record
