good afternoon, everybody. i'm leon bibb. at the top today, winter hit northeast ohio with a it was a sloppy mess and on the roads, it was sloppy. and the roadings are looking clear and looking at i-71 and we'll check in with storm tracker 5 in a minute. first, let's go to the weather center where . >> reporter: we had the snow

things have let up just a bit. colder air is moving in and we start to concern ourselves more with our affect snows between now and the evening commute. we'll look at the power of 5 live doppler network. and currently cuyahoga county north and west. we'll talk about that in just a moment. lighter snow up and down interstate 71 through bemina -- medina county yne county. this is light snow and steady. could easily accumulate another half an inch to an inch between now and 2 or 3 this afternoon. more g along i-90 into lake county and the open waters of lake erie. this is the next batch of snow. you can see it here off of the shore here from lorain to avon lake to the north this will move on shore and imbedded here could see another half an inch to an inch and will lower visibilities.

some colder air that will move in and see fall. and not a top of snow, but we're expecting it to continue to increase as we head into the latter part of our day and it becomes more lake affect. we'll get the colder air we're in the mid-20s in northern ohio. the teens and single digits here to the north and west. we have that lake snow advisory h tomorrow morning through lake geauga and ashtabula counties and hour-by- hour, lake affect snow showers latter part of the evening today, 7, 8, and notice them though, can't keep snow out of the forecast. the lower 20s into the teens and john ridder is in storm tracker 5 and and give us the latest on the road conditions. and so far so good, things are

dominion, east ohio gas told related. newschannel 5s sarah finney was on the scene all morning with the deaths that have shaken a neighborhood with an emotional hit. >> reporter: before smoke began billowing from this north field home, neighbors saw a bright light and heard a boom. >> and looked out of my front window and saw the second floor engulfed in flames. >> reporter: a picture captures the horror across the street. jim russo and a few others ran to the house and saw two cars in the driveway, hoping no one was inside. >> i looked on the left-hand door. kitchen. of course, there was the debris over the ground. a lot of smoke and we started in there. and nobody responded. >> reporter: investigators said the two girls, ages 8 and 12, were found near the mother. the father found in a different part of the house all killed

fire chief. the deaths, difficult for both neighbors and first responders. >> as long as i can remember, i have been with the fire department for 25 years and this is the first fire fatality i have been -- that i had to it's not easy. >> reporter: the state fire marshal is investigating. sarah finney, newschannel 5. >> and in the meantime, in columbus, two children and their mother were killed overnight. the columns bus -- columbus police say the ex-boyfriend stabbed them to death. the mother's current boyfriend was attacked and he is under columbus hospital. the columbus police arrested the ex-boyfriend in that case. and in cincinnati, it appears to be a case of mistaken identity as a 14-year- old boy was shot by his father as the father thought his son was an intruder. it was only this morning when the father said he thought his son was on the school bus. the boy had returned home. the father said he heard a

to check it out, took his gun with him and wounded the child. the child was taken to the hospital where he later died. the father is being introduced by police there in cincinnati where that took place. there was violence again on the cleveland east side of a 22- fire. it was at east 61st street and griswold avenue, in the central neighborhood of cleveland. the police said around nine last night, the man was shot in the chest as he sat in the driver's seat of the car. when news channel 5 sat in the car, they saw two people back in the police car and there is no word on whether they were arrested. also, from a scene in cleveland's lee harvey neighborhood, there has become robbed a gas station. expected. the clerk at the gas station fired back. it was at the bp gas station at the corner of lee road and harvard avenue. the robbers took money and cigarettes from behind the counter and they shot at the clerk. that was when the clerk shot back.

it's a busy time for cleveland police officers. they're also looking to identify two suspects wanted for a robbery after they shoplifted at the burlington coat factory at steel yard's common. one of the suspects stuffed a sweater is any underwear into his pants and put on a stolen coat over his own coat. as the suspects left the steel yard common store, they pushed away an employee who tried to confront them. coming up, the president is giving his last state of the union address. we have a look at what he could talk about during tonight's speech. >> and former army sergeant or army sergeant bo bergdahl is making his first appearance newschannel 5 will be back

. president obama will deliver his final state of the union address speech tonight from the u.s. capital building. looking at his final year in office, there are reports that president obama is determined to tackle unfinished business before he leaves. abcs stephanie ramos has a from view from washington, d.c. states! in office, president obama will deliver his last state of the union address to congress. instead of trying to persuade the joint session to work with him in 2016 on a legislative to do list, the president is expected to deliver a speech with a slightly different tone. in a video released by the white house, mr. obama previews what you will -- he will say tonight.

[ speaking spanish ] >> reporter: after castillo telling mexican media he was surprised to learn his actress daughter kate del castillo arranged the secret meeting between el chapo and pep. turns out, mexican intelligence was tracking both actors, photographing their every move and penn finally speaking out, defending his interview with the drug kingpin, telling "the associated press" on minute via hide. as for el chapo in his interview, he said being free was very nice but, of course, he is now back behind bars. getting him back to the u.s. could take some time as mexican officials new say his extradition has been suspended.

look to the north and west, we have a clump of snow that will maybe the half hour into lorain county and farther into the east. this should hold together good. it's not lake affect ban or anything like that. it's an areawide quick burst of light snow. look at the wider picture here. notice what we're tracking, the colder air. chicago is at 8; detroit, 19. if we warm up a little bit into the mid-20s, it will be short lived. colder air is moving in on the heels of it. we drop the winter weather advisory and have the lake snow advisory until tomorrow morning. for portions of lake geauga and ashtabula you want key, expect another four to eight additional in some spots and some areas where the advisory began overnight and could see 6 to 12 total. and this is your hour-by-hour. temperatures in the lower 20s and upper types. the winds will pick up. we have windchills tonight, very cold and we'll have delays potentially tomorrow morning at

not because of snows and here we go. notice not a ton happening between now and 4, but once we hit eight or 9, we start to get the re-enforcing shot of cold air. check it out. we have lake affect snow bands from medina to akron and cleveland north and east. this is later on, 9 or 10 it's going. there mean some snow showers around tomorrow morning. we'll dry things out during the day tomorrow and after 9, 10, another system comes in and a bit of a warming trend and that continues into thursday. thursday, the 30s and we may flirt with 40. by friday, is the will a warming trend. 25 today and scattered snow. trace up to two inches and snow showers continue tonight, 11 and with windchills, it will the seven-day forecast, notice wednesday's high only in the mid-teens. we'll see afternoon and evening snow showers and most likely evening into the overnight is
