there could be dangerous wind chills along route 30. mansfield and ashland to canton minus ten to minus 18. let's get to the squall beginning to get going. the last hour-and-a-half we are seeing this streamer through down. a slow go out of downtown over the next couple of hours as we got snowfall coming in. i-90 corridor. here is where the snow is heaviest. burton 223 corridor a good half, half to an inch and that will expand and move around. we will talk about more what that means for you and the cold temperatures. some of you single digits, bundle up if you are going out. a horrifying explosion left a family dead in northville center. a story we have been on top of since we brought it for you.

identities of the family members that lost their lives. our kristen volk is learning more about them. but first tracy is live from the northville center to let us know where the investigation stands. tracy. >> reporter: yes, frank, i talked to the state fire marshal's office. they are the ones leading this investigation as well as the search for answers. by the light of day, the crystal clear. all that is left of 7486 scott this couple were killed and the medical examiner believes that there two children are the other victims found in the house. investigators say that the 8 found near their mother.

the father knew he had to do something when he heard the explosion and tried to help. >> yaal and nobody is answering and people are yelling and i can't see nothing and i ran back outside and i go man there is got to be somebody home and i ran back in there again. >> reporter: and when randy ran into that house when he kicked the door opened, that's when the family dog ran out. we are told tonight that the dog is doing fine and with a neighbor. in summit county. newschannel 5. we are learning more about the family of four who lost their lives in that explosion last night. kristen joins us from the scene with that part of the story all new at five. this was a family dedicated to their church and school. >> reporter: the mother was an

elementary school and their dad those around them are dealing with the news that mather family is gone and kill in a horrific way. >> it was a sad scene this morning as the staff gathered. superintendent of the school tells me ruth mather loved to come to school. she adored her classmates and her life was cut short by an explosion at her house. >> as kids arrived, they were upset, especially ruthie's classmates. >> the classmates started the day by writing letters to her and drawing pictures to express their feelings. >> they loved ruth's mom a tutor. >> she was in the building all

highly of her. garfield heights the pastor spoke highly of the family. in a statement he says they were founding and faithful members of church. they will be deeply missed. ruthie had an older sister name allison kill in this explosion and that's according to the school district. allison used to attend the schools but she has not been years. live in northville center. i'm kristen volk news center five. >> a break in the case after police arrested 23-year-old community. records show that dennings has a serious criminal history. >> reporter: according to city and county records the 23-year- old pled guilty to drug and weapons charges and facing the

police say 3-year-old major howard was sitting in a car in the 34 hour block of 113th street. shots fired hit the toddler and he died at the hospital. there was a northern violent task force this morning that are looking into this. according to court documents, donings was previously sentenced to one year in jail and 18 months on a weapons charge. this was not the first warrant for his arrest. a previous warrant was issued in 2014 after failing to appear on drug abuse charges. one of two suspects wanted on the howard case and police are looking for 23-year-old janel lindsey. anyone with information is asked to contact police. president obama's 7th and final state of the union address will be different from the others.

for what she claims was a brutal attack for being booked in the euclid county jail. >> she was sprayed with pepper spray. shapel was placed on administrative leave after being indicted for assault. shapel pleaded guilty in december but according to court documents the other charges dropped as part of the plea deal but she had to agree to resign from the position with the county. in an interview with newschannel 5 last spring in which she did not want to show her face, dumont says she fears for her life. >> i just want to ask her what did i do to her? i did not disrespect her. i did not call this lady a name or say anything wrong to her. >> that assault was captured on video but it is not released. the lawsuit filed today alleges that excessive force was used

some 40 vehicles were involved then pileup. the wreck happened after the area got slammed two rounds of snow this morning. during rush hour leaving drivers with limited visibility and the roads quite slick. >> if you thought we had it bad in ohio we are getting a taste of this winter blast. >> some places are buried in three feet of snow. jason nicklas is here and millions of people in the northeast impacted by this. >> no doubt about it. we had this clipper system move through and now lake-effect snow and look at the snow here, syracuse as you head further south and upstate new york getting pummeled with snow and bitterly cold temperatures. parts of western new york are buried right now in up to 34- inches of snow and more lake- effect snow potentially bringing the total snowfall there in this area to three to

stretching to lake geauga and the main band along 322 corridor from chester to munster i believe we have a live picture. john rudder. what do you got in geauga county. >> reporter: cold and windy. we will give you an idea. outside driving conditions not too bad, the roads mostly wet. some of them snow covered in some places looking at the temperature right now, we are at 18 degrees. there's some light snow falling and that has picked up as we have moved east away from cleveland and the visibility has significantly decreased. highways, those were cleared and light dustings on the back roads. temperatures as we mentioned below freezing so there is that possibility of anything that has been melted earlier that could refreeze, you want to be

wind should shift a little bit to the northwest. so this squall is probably going to amble around and turn more inland and perhaps northern portage county and another squall stretching to geauga and hanover. we will watch for the wind shift. bitter cold. mainly in the teens with wind chills, single digits to below zero. wooster at three below and two below in mansfield and outside of the snow you will we wind chills below zero and minus ten and some of you towards mansfield and minus 15 to 18. here you go. your evening in the teens and scattered snow and bitter cold and single digits. i don't know. it is january, let's just hope -- four months from now is may and june. police in shakier heights investigating three armed

being dumped in that lake and congress approved a bill to prohibit that but some think some of that sediment is safe. >> a butler pharmacy will be allowed to dispense the overdose reversing drug narcan. it will be able to provide that drug over the counter without a prescription. many police agencies already equip officers with the drug to help reverse potentially deadly overdoses. butler county had 120 drug overdoses in 2015. state lawmakers are looking over a proposal to let ohioans register to vote online. it would be up to the state election chief to create an online process. you would need a driver's license or state id number. this bill was already passed by our state senate and now the house is weighing in.

gutman was able to get a good look inside the drug lord's house and his underground tunnels in mexico. after mexican marines released the video showing the ferocious fight. blasting the way through and killing five of el chapo's man for tracking them down. after this man telling mexican authorities that he was to learn that his daughter kate castill arranged a secret meeting. and it turns out mexican intelligence was tracking both of them and penn was finally speaking out and defending his interview and telling the associated press that i have nothing to hide. >> as for el chapo in the interview, he says being free was nice but of course he is now back behind bars but

deteriorating road conditions. have a look for yourself outside. the snow covering most of the roadway. you can really hardly see any tire tracks. we just saw a car slide to go to side of the road and seeing some plow trucks coming the opposite way. we are in chardin driving north. you can see the tow trucks. cars sliding off of the roadway way and a two car accident on auburn road. reduced visibility and can hardly see the cars probably only a couple hundred feet. to give you an idea of where we are in the squall, we are in that blue circle and we will go to mark johnson for another look of the forecast. >> nice job. hope you brought a shovel. look at the squall, the futurecast with temperatures.
