exclusively with the woman that accused him of rape. >> loris woods bonded out of jail for $500. the rape accusers says she feared for her life and moved back in with her parents and he should have never been let out. >> in a sense knew her life was over. >> the victim of sexual assault went to police after 22-year- old loris woods attended at her house last june and raped her while she slept in her own bed. >> if someone is sleeping they don't give consent. >> it went to a grand jury and returned an indictment for felony sexual assault where his name was misspelled. >> and she warned her of this man. >> she asked about a gun and no, i do not own a firearm and she says does he know where you live and i said yes he came to a party and she says you can't

>> medina court records show that woods pleaded no contest this past fall to one count of criminal damaging or endangering and one count of threatening domestic violence. in a separate case involving his wife. his wife had a protection order against him for the kid and herself. i went to the wayne county prosecutor's office to find out why woods walked out of jail days before he was murdered. the prosecutor says his criminal history was not a factor in the bond decision saying that the bond did not recommend a higher bond. >> i wish they were more thorough. >> two weeks after getting out of jail, woods admitted he shot and killed his wife inside this kia in front of their children. >> to think -- she had three children. to take care of that depended

and she is gone. and prosecutor dan lutz was not available to speak with us but agreed to speak with me tomorrow on camera. tomorrow is also the date of emily young's funeral. live in wooster newschannel 5. >> a story we are continuing to cover on air and online. we learned about the family that lived in a home and a neighbor that desperately tried to save them. tracy carloss is going to give us details about what happened. >> reporter: well, the state fire marshal's office tells me they don't know what caused this explosion here last night but they do have a team of investigation here trying to figure it out. yellow tape at a police center where investigators are still here on sky haven road hours after an explosion knocked this home last night.

what is left of a house that a randy lives two doors down and heard the explosion and saw the bare feet. had socks on and pajamas and we you can see how it just blew off. a lot of fire. we ran to the start of the door opened. examiner positively identified two of the victims as 43-year- old jeff mather and his 43-year- old wife cindy. two children found in the home next to cindy and believed that they are the 8 and 12-year-old daughter. jeffrey was a deacon at a church in garfield heights and catherine harrison is a member of the church and knew the family well. >> she would walk around with her wagon and collect food and cans and bring it up to the church to supply our food pantry.

they are going to be loved and missed but we know they are with jesus right now. >> reporter: now, with randy kicking in the door to try to help the family dog ran out. [ no audio] problems. as we move on another terrible a cincinnati father accidentally shoots and kills his teenage son in a case of mistaken identity. his son he thought got on the school bus and had to return to his home. police say the father hearing noises in the basement took his gun with him to check it out thinking it was an intruder. believed that the boy decided not to go to school and came back home through the back door. the case is being sent to the district attorney's office and believed to be accidental. ohio state highway patrol

the driver lost control of his car on route 24 and crashed into a car. that man was treated for his injuries and released. a man arrested for kidnapping and rape charges is scheduled for court. patrick patowsky that police say raped a woman in parma is scheduled to be in court on january 25th. a parma heights couple turned themselves into police for stealing copper. 49-year-old thomas walsh and his wife 45-year-old michelle walsh were accused of stealing copper wiring from the new american greetings headquarters. police say thomas walsh was a construction worker on the job site when he was caught breaking into the electrical world. police are looking to identify these two suspects wanted for robbery. it happened at the burlington coat factory. one of the suspects stuck clothes in his pants and put on a stolen coat over his own.

an employee tried to confront them and was pushed away. today started with a sloppy start and ending that way. currently falling across northeast ohio at this moment. storm tracker five headed on the highway towards chardin where the snow is starting to pile up again. let's check in with chief meteorologist mark johnson. >> we are tracking our band of heavy snow coming out of greater cleveland over i-271 and bedford heights into burden 322 corridor. chardin is here and burden and where the heaviest snow is falling and going to the rock creek area towards andover. where the band persists this evening and overnight a good three to six additional inches

it was a packed house in shaker heights city council. first considered the band back in november. if it passes pitbulls already in shaker heights can stay. but no new ones will be allowed in the city. this comes months at 71-year- old annie williams was attacked and killed by a pitbull. if it passes shaker heights would join richmond heights and garfield heights and warrenville heights and lake wood and parma with pitbull bands. do you remember last night when we told you about the guy that didn't like his mug shot so he decided to send the cops a selfie. >> that selfie was good enough to get him arrested. lima police say this guy was arrested in florida today. pugh was a person of interest including arson and wanted for failure to appear in ohio. he also has had a warrant out for his arrest in georgia. >> newschannel 5 investigators have gotten their hands on an

cleveland is paying for garbage pickup. investigator jonathan walsh joining us from the newsroom. waste collection is way over budget. >> this is the report given to counsel members by the city's finance director and it says right here as a matter of fact the overtime for waste collection and disposal is 274% over budget. the city budgeted nearly $471,000 for overtime and between january and november the city paid out almost $1.3 million and that does not include december's overtime. i talked with councilman ken johnson who's the municipal services committee chair. he says this was the first time the city made him aware of the problem. his next step is to have hearings on the issue with the entire public works department by next month. councilman polinnic said there is too many people calling off. >> people not coming to work because they are working to 9:30 at night and they are

won't show up for work. there's a major problem in the waste collection department. >> the city of cleveland told me in mid december several employees in the city of waste were fired because of overtime abuse. and that the previous waste commissioner randall scott was reassigned after not properly seeing the overtime issues. paul burnet is the interim waste commissioners. jonathan walsh. newschannel 5. investigators have been tracking down new information about michael simon's restaurant in lo litta that had a fire on saturday. after numerous requests the past couple of days we gained access to three fire inspection reports for that restaurant in tremont. all three including the most recent saw the inspections. it is required to send the information to the fire department on a quarterly basis. the exact cause of the fire has not been determined but it is

especially since we are in the cold season. two types of children's cough syrups are being recalled because the dosing cup has incorrect markings. the company is recalling two batches of its syrup sold under different brand names. one in grape was sold under the cvs brand and the other branch in cherry, right aid and general manager. and pier one in recalling these swing chairs. the products commission has received reports of the chairs tipping over or falling from its stands. sold between january of 2010 to august of 2015. customers can contact the

and now we are transitioning to cold air and lake-effect snow. we will zoom in. northern lorain counties, lighter snow to downtown cleveland and could be a slippery go. out east we get things cooking here from the i-271 corridor around mayville heights to central geauga county with one- half to one hour snowfall rates right now. again this squall could go back and forth over the course the overnight. it may go northwest and southeast. we will have to watch it. it is about what mother nature wants to do and where the squall goes, southern ashtabula county and northern trumble and portage easily three to five inches. we are in the teens everywhere we go and this is the heaviest amounts of snow and cuyahoga

chagrin falls four-and-a-half and burton four-and-a-half and the same for middleville and andover. feast or famine snowfall. watch these clips outside of the snow falls. single digits and waking up to bitter cold air and the air temperatures current wind chills are already single digits to below zero and between minus five and 15 in a few spots. here is the lake snow advisory. lake geauga ashtabula. and cuyahoga county as well. wind chill advisories to the west. if you want a snow day, your best chance, greater cleveland for three to six inches of snow where the squalls persist by the morning. here is wind chill issues closings and delays for schools tomorrow morning, the route 30 corridor and points south.

ashlan, wooster and canton with wind chills minus five and 15 and maybe minus 18. front going by and artic air hanging around. we get a warmup a couple of days of 30 plus degree weather and we may flirt with 40 by friday and saturday. teens overnight and scattered lake-effect snow and heavy at times east of cleveland. 11 tonight. generally a trace for two inches for cleveland and out east and where the squall persists you could go five or six inches wind chills to minus five. akron and canton less snow and wind chills and air temperatures 7 degrees for the low but wind chills minus five to minus 15. tomorrow 16 degrees for the high. 35 with flurries thursday. could be some rain on friday into saturday. changing over to snow. here is the 40s and it is back to the deep freeze next week. deep, deep freeze. >> there it is. >> not messing around. >> andy is in with browns news. >> a little bit.
