detail horrifying new information about a summit county house explosion. jeff and cindy mather along with their two daughters died when their northfield home blew up. new documents reveal this may have been a murder-suicide. >> reporter: jeff mather contemplated suicide in the rocky river metro park. he had a rifle. that was at the beginning of december. he was then hospitalized at a mental health facility. this happened at the same time the records state that jeff was having problems at work. he had just started a new position. his long time employer was a company that makes and sells valves and gauges. he returned to work after the new year but one week later his northfield home exploded. the record states the investigators found a gas can next to his body. the school district tells us they had no indication there

jeff's company just sent us this statement saying this is a tragic situation, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and family. our focus is to support our associates through this difficult time. live in northfield center, kristin volk, newschannel5. tonight the mystery of a cleveland boy as he remains behind bars. he is charged with aggravated murder in connection with the september shooting that left major howard dead. police say this man pulled the trigger, killing the child. lindsey is still on the loose and police say he is considered dangerous. and tonight police are looking for the person who shot a man 4 times. it happened overnight along cleveland's clark avenue. police say they showed up at a bar after reports of a shooting. they found shell casings but no victims. the man apparently was dropped off at a hospital.

marijuana debate was over, think again. issue 3 may have failed in ohio, but medical marijuana mate still be on the horizon. new tonight at 6:00, our megan hick key is live with a brand- new announcement. lawmakers told you that they want to formally study whether or not pot should be legal. >> reporter: they announced a medical marijuana task force to decide if ohio should be the 24th state to legalize medical pot. issue 3 polls gauged ohio support around 84%. a northeast ohio poll was nearly 90% in favor. lawmakers will likely discuss the topic with doctors and experts from states that have cannabis. plate can analyst tom sutton tells me legislators will have to address whether the medical pot will be grown in state or shipped in from other places.

. an appeals court judge has ruled a lawsuit in the case of danny witters can now move forward. he was shot bey a detective also named in the lawsuit. witters was ordered to show his hands while standing in a dimlily lit basement. the officer admitted shooting after witters began to raise his hands. all new at 6:00 a flood of problems for a local man after a water line ruptured, flooding his house. he spent seven months trying to

they've been trying to get answers from garfield high and cleveland only to be told months later that the contractor came through cuyahoga county engineers. >> nobody seemed to care one bit about a person and the things they have to go through. >> reporter: but cuyahoga county told me hat no record of a county crew at that location in may. the county set's been working with raymond's situation since day one and since november the case has been with its law department. senate's been hard. >> reporter: troubling because it's already been a tough time recently for the world war ii vet. >> the fact that i'm alone now, i lost my wife a little over a year ago now. she had alzheimer's and dementia. >> reporter: well, the county says it will continue to work with raymond on this confusing case. i have reached out to the city of cleveland ask, hey, what's going on? why is it taking so long to clear this issue? so far no response.
