the teen was shot twice once in the rib and once in the leg. the teen was taken by ambulance s and children for the gunshot wounds. this morning i was digging through past shootings here in the city. this is the tenth teenager within the past six months. i have a call out to police for more information about this story. i have not heard back yet. but they are saying that they ts in this case so far. they are asking formation to call police or crimestoppers. live in cleveland meg shaw news channel 5. >> thank you very much. this morning lorain police investigating a crash that killed a 62-year-old pedestrian. it happened around 10:00 last night at 23rd street and oak dale avenue. a woman driving west on west

was hit by another vehicle heading southbound. the woman's car spun and hit a pedestrian at the scene. attorneys claim the city of cleveland is avoiding paying $19 million in judgements in two cases involving police officers by having the officers file for bankruptcy. they had the bankruptcy, which the city paid for wipe clean a $13 million judgement for a man who spent time behind bars for a conviction later on returned. the largest retailer in the country is about to put work. today walmart announced it is world. the first ever mass closing. northeast ohio. it is walmart's bedford location on rock side road. company said some 16,000

when those stores shutdown. 10,000 of the workers are in the u.s. walmart says 95% of the stores closing of this country are within ten minutes of another walmart. it will try to relocate workers as best it can. in summit county questions remain following a vigil honoring a family killed in a home explosion. members of the north field community gathered sharing hugs in the rain last night. the family death is suicide. a gas can was found inside of the home next to the father. we learned there was a history of depression and attempted suicides by jeffery. >> last week i drove past and saw them all outside. >> you never know what is in other people's head. >> the family dog was the lone survivor of the explosion. many are struggling to understand the tragedy.

we are waking up to cloudy skies. our temperatures have really dropped. yesterday we saw a high of 52. today nearly a 20 to 22-degree difference in our temperatures as that cold front has shifted more towards the east. let's look at our daytime highs towards sandusky. 34. we'll be sitting at the freezing mark in richland and ashland county. greater cleveland area we'll see a shift in our winds. we were dealing with a southerly flow yesterday. they'll shift west. they are breezy through the day 15 to 20 miles per hour. hot spot inland locations out towards akron and canton. 35 degrees. nick? how much money did you spend on powerball this week? $20 or $40.

welcome back. we are following breaking news from overnight in the west african nation where 23 people are reported dead after a terror attack and siege in a luxury hotel. al queda affiliate claimed responsibility for the attack. three gunmen were killed in exchange with french and local forces. another skilled in -- killed in that nearby hotel. official report that responding

and forces are searching nearby hotels and buildings to see if any additional extremist are hiding close by. officials are now asking people to report anything that may be debris from two marine helicopters that crashed off the coast of hawaii. fire, plus and ocean safety officials are helping marines and coast guards search for survivors in rough water and poor visibility. two helicopters were teach carrying six crew members when they crashed during night time training off oahu. all the marines are still missing this morning. in the race for the white house the republican rumble continues between donald trump and ted cruz after the texas senator came under fire this week for saying rival trump has what he called new york values. those remarks ruffled feathers. when cruz was asked yesterday if he was sorry for the remarks

causing 3500 birth defects in brazil. it is native to africa, southeast asia and the pacific islands. it is quickly spreading in the americas. the cdc lists 14 places women should avoid including brazil, haiti, puerto rico and mexico. a scary situation unfolding in france where a man is brain dead. three others could have permanent brain damage after they volunteered for a drug trial from a painkiller. six men were hospitallized. other 83 volunteers are being contacted. health officials are calling this unprecedented and there is no known way to reverse the effects of the experimental drug. in consumer news this morning starting next week it will cost more to mail packages. u.s. postal service is raising the cost of priority mail packages 10% starting tomorrow.

many counties will be effect a lake-effect snow watch beginning this afternoon. welcome to this saturday edition of "good morning cleveland." i'm nick foley joined by meteorologist janessa webb. we have several developing stories we are working on. first let's get a live look at the weather. it is changing. >> yeah. it is changing quickly. yesterday we were in the 50s. we were talking about the mild and warm air for january. we'll start to see a dip. we were tracking rain yesterday. the cold front shifted more towards the east. we'll drop in temperatures and lose the moisture today. we have a lake-effect snow watch. that starts tomorrow afternoon for northeast ohio. you can see the pavement is still wet out there out towards summit county. yesterday we were into the mid to upper 40s. look at this drop in our temperatures. you can see from our contour map well towards the east we are sitting in those brighter white and pinkish colors.

with the blue as the front continues to shift more towards the east. we are just tracking cloudy skies throughout your afternoon. a few spotty showers moving in from the west. it could affect out towards rich land into the mansfield area and will be moving out fairly quickly. let's talk about the lake- effect snow watch. we are forecasting possible eight to 12 inches out towards the lake. geuga and ashtabula county where is squalls persist things could get dicey. this morning we continue to follow breaking news from overnight. a 15-year-old shot on cleveland's east side. meg shaw is live at rainbow babies and children's hospital where the teen was taken after the shooting. what more do we know this morning? >> reporter: nick, cleveland e.m.s. tells us that teen is in serious condition.

>> our community knows when they see zero percent of kids score without remediation that can't be true. >> reporter: the correct numbers didn't come out in time for the first round of report cards out this week. >> for those wanting to appeal they went through the process and are appealing their data. it was clearly possible to appeal if you wanted to appeal that information. >> reporter: here's the problem. the appeals window is closed. which means it is too late for beach wood city schools. the superintendant said the ap test data for his students was wildly off base. the report card shows not a single student took the test. in reality students took 450 tests this may. more than 350 passed and received college credit. >> in response to that board the board of education says many schools did file appeals. the changes will be reflected in the final report card that comes out on february 25th.

ended 13 years ago with a woman recovering in the hospital from sexual assault. we have been searching for sex offenders who have gone under the radar. >> reporter: u.s. marshals crisscrossed the continent for two years tracking a sexual assault man. >> at some point she was left alone on the patio in this apartment. he penetrated her with his fingers and then had intercourse with her the entire time. according to her allegations she was saying no to him. >> reporter: the 18-year-old spoke with police the next day. he skipped town and a warrant was issued for felony rape. residents at his last known address say he fled to puerto rico. depp u.s. marshal told me the case stuck out when they took

it was as if he didn't exist. >> there were basically no anywhere. license. we were never able to find records of him or any indications what so ever where we might be able to locate him. this is unusual. >> reporter: his family told marshals he was murdered. bolden doesn't buy the story after a search never turned up records of death. when marshals confronted the family conflicting stories emerged. >> it would have been easy to assume an identity in puerto rico, travel back here and stay under the radar. >> reporter: this is what he looked like in 2003. >> the similarities in their faces are similar. >> reporter: bolden explained they are working from pictures of his 34-year-old brother who

look closely at the photos of the brother. police say they looked similar as teens as believe they might be the key to discovering of what he looks like today. >> that looks a lot like him. same mouth. did you see that? >> he lived in the area for several years before he fled. anyone with information is asked to call the u.s. marshals. if you have been to cleveland hopkins airport in the last few weeks you'll notice the construction zones shifted again. this morning more changes are on the way. starting monday crews will open up another renovated section of the terminal upstairs near the main escalator bank. it will alleviate some of the congestion caused by the massive year-long construction project. during the overhaul security check points moved and there is less parking. those changes even confused regular flyers.

out towards the west side into west lake, north ridgeville into avon, currently at 34 degrees. look at the wider picture. what we were dealing with yesterday is a southerly wind. that's what allowed for the gradual warm up as the cold front shifted east. there is cooler air moving across the midwest. single-digits towards minneapolis. chicago in the upper 20s. that's what you'll be feeling today. break out the winter coat once again. not forecasting a lot of snow for today. it is just going to be on the scattered side hit-and-miss across the area. looking at our temperatures. going into the 11:00 hour we are on that downward trend. we are currently sitting at our high today. right now 34 degrees. throughout the rest of the afternoon we'll continue to see that drop in temperatures. inland locations. it is not on the heavy side.

americans older than 50 will be struggling with substance abuse. that's a prediction in the study of the the journal of prediction. that's twice the number than ten years ago. as tonya roberts reports it is a major growing concern. >> reporter: michael walsh knows the effects of drinking too much. for him social drinking turned into an addiction. >> when it became as a learned behavior that's how you have fun. >> reporter: he's been sober 17 years. years spent helping others struggling with addictions. >> alcohol is a poison. drugs will get the better of you prescribed or not. whether you are a heavy user or a casual user there is a point in everyone's life where that substance is not your friend anymore. >> reporter: dr. dan is also noticing. >> what i'm seeing now is there are a lot of retirees at young ages coming down in their 40s and 50s.

>> reporter: he says some may be using alcohol as a coping mechanism especially after retirement. >> they don't know what to do with their time fully. they get bored and they'll drink just to relax. >> reporter: the doctor says drinking too much can affect your health. that includes an increased risk of a stroke, memory loss or cause liver damage. he tries to encourage his patients to limit their drinking, walsh says it is never too late to stop drinking all together. >> it is very difficult sometimes to change when you are older and really change your life and see alcohol is a problem. they have good recovery outcomes. they seem to do well if they make the decision they want to change their life. >> part of the issue is that our bodies take longer to process alcohol and drugs as we age. national institute on alcohol abuse recommends healthy people over 65 not have more than seven drinks a week.
