11:02 pm
it's time now for our spitzer play of the day. standing by in the press conference room, taking his first question. let's hear what he has to say. >> i thought the guys tried to play for each other, tried to move the ball. once we get to the 2nd side we kind of get lost, but i thought the guys competed. we just couldn't make shots. so on defense was great, and offensively we didn't make shots, didn't make free throws. and to reiterate on that, i don't think we're in good enough shape. i think early we want to do push it. i think we came out and just
11:03 pm
kevin wanted to come out early so i don't think we're in good enough shape right now to play like we want to play. >> you mentioned not making the shots in the big games. do you think that's more of a product of not getting shots that your guys are comfortable with or not getting quality looks? >> i thought it got quality looks. we had 4 turn overs. i thought guys got open shots. i just didn't think we made them and like you said, not quarter. and had a mind set how they want to do play and lebron came early.
11:04 pm
>> you're saying guys aren't in shape. why is that? >> i think we play the second slowest in the league and the vision i have for this team, i think we need to play faster. open the floor more and running more drags and getting the weak side out. so something new, so i've got to do a better job of getting us in shape. >> how long does it take to get guys in shape? >> well, they are not in terrible shape but they are not in the type of shape they need to be to play at the level we need to be. we shared the ball, we took care of the ball. we didn't make free throws, and then i think 9 from 22 from the
11:05 pm
>> what i am going to ask you about doesn't have anything to do with shots or rebounds but it fits into this idea of improving the spirit. did you have anything to do with the team getting back into this game preintroduction ritual? >> yes. >> would you tell us about that. >> i thought the sense that we come out a little later. i just told the guys this morning i wanted everybody to go out on the floor together. but the brooklyn game we had 4 guys come out and everybody just staggered out and that's not unity. so i was like, let's go out together, go to the floor and then if you have to go back to the room, do it. but let's go out as a unit. with the crowd, you can see it different. the fans want to cheer for them.
11:06 pm
at home you can do what you want, but at least at home give the fans what they came to see, run out, be introduced and the crowd was all for it. >> obviously not the outcome you wanted but your thoughts and feelings as you stepped out on the floor as a head coach. >> i actually felt a little nervous at first. i was fine until -- asked me that question. but i thought it was for the most part great. guys paid attention, gave me maximum effort and we have just got to continue to have that maxes maximum effort. it was hard to gauge being my

>> all right. taking over the reins for your cavaliers. 96-83. back here in the studio, breaking it down. brad, i've got to tell you, you have got kevin love, lebron james, 110 million-dollar payroll and your head coach said you're out of shape. >> well, he said -- everything i heard i'm going to say andy was spot on. i've been saying this is what needs to occur. we're playing at a slow pace and you can't play significant basketball at a slow pace. so you have to get gites in shape and you do that by pushing the tempo. if you don't push the tempo you are going to be a slow team. and you can't have your
11:08 pm
4 minutes of the game saying we want to come out of the game. that tells you you're not in shape enough to go hard and long. but the things that hurt them today, especially about the thing as little as the warm up introduction, spot on. when we come out here, we come out here as a group. we don't do things that can't have a chance to splinter your organization. you have to stay together because you're really the only 12 that you can count on. >> we've got more post game coverage coming up right after
11:09 pm

time now for our akron children's hospital player of the rebound. looking a little reenergized tonight. 6 points ended up with 6 boards tonight. lebron had 13, but mous played with a little bit of energy. what do you think. >> he absolutely did. i think the change of pace was right for him. maybe the second half of the season is going to pick up. >> i think he lacks confidence. i think somehow it got damaged after the summer after the surgery. so now we've got to rebuild that. >> how do you rebuild it?
11:16 pm
you have got to build on little successes. not feel like an outcast. they went to him and had confidence in him. i think guys respond to confidence. >> let's head back over to the cue. lauren is standing by over at the cue, what do you have for us? >> obviously this game didn't go like the team wanted it to. when i walked into the locker room it was disappointed but they didn't look defeated. they weren't hitting shot but the fans were in it. tonight they were here until the end of the buzzer. obviously this game was a little bit closer but i think everybody understands there is
11:17 pm
hopefully a quick one but an adjustment period nonetheless. let's take a look at this upcoming schedule. i think the interesting one would be the game next saturday against the san antonio spurs. wiggins and minnesota. the pistons on the road and then san antonio. take a look at that schedule and tell me what you think. >> i'm taking it game by game so the thing i'm focusing on is the next game, might minnesota. i can't worry about san antonio because that's at the end of the week. >> and again a reminder for next saturday night. we have the cavs and spurs, tip off at 8:30. what do you think where teams used to play these games at 3:30 on sunday. i like these saturday night games. >> i like it for the league and i like it for the fans. it's no different for the
11:18 pm
be playing 7:30 at night on most saturday games so it gives the fans and the country something to look forward to now that football season is just about over. >> let's break down tyrone. what are we going to see? let's start with the defense change? we saw what chicago was able to do tonight. can the cavs match that? >> yeah, we have the ability to match that. with us working on an offensive identity, everybody knows what to expect. once that is established i think what it brings to us is the ability to make it intense for our team. we have got to hit the floor with energy every night. every time we play we must play with energy. it goes up and down. you can't look at the overall
11:19 pm
you can't look at that. that's misleading. you have to look at the individual actions. >> brad a lot of questions about the rotation. what's happening. griff went out and spent a lot of money on this bench. we have more depp st -- depth on this team. if you're breaking down tonight's box score, again i said earlier, lebron at 40. chiry and -- christian thompson 22. but james and williams also get in the game limited time. i would say you're going to look at an 8 man rotation tonight because you're playing the chicago bulls. if it's not the bulls then you're trying to get -- into the game. >> you're looking at an 8 man
11:20 pm
didn't have time -- some of these guys haven't been playing in quite a long time. you can't just snap your fingers and put someone in a game. >> so do we see the rotation expand? >> it has to expand. this is not the time to shrink your rotation. we don't start. >> let's talk about the locker room, that's a bomb that gets dropped in the locker room. when they met yesterday some players thought players were being traded. tell me about a mid season change with a coach. >> well, i think it shakes it up a little bit but this is the nature of this defense. i don't know anything in this league that somebody hasn't got traded throughout the season.
