. former chief of police on social media. >> now he is on the other side of the law. brimfield police chief david oliver was in court this afternoon and so was our bob jones who has more on the court appearance. the twist here that oliver blasted criminals now he his a criminal record. >>reporter: it was a little more than a year ago when david oliver resigned from the police department. today he was officially charged and he was found guilty here in court. he will not go -- >> i've gone through three years of hell. >>reporter: cristal global told a crowded court her former boss and chief david oliver subjected her to sexual harassment on a daily basis.

>> the hugs escalated to groping, trapping me places forcing me into positions where he would press his body into mine. >>reporter: the controversy forced oliver to resign last year and today he faced four misdemeanor counts including simple assault and unlawful restraint. >> no contest. >>reporter: after oliver's plea the judge found him guilty on all counts. it was a fall from grace for a chief who had a huge facebook following. >> you became the mope you wrote about in your book. >>reporter: still outspoken he says officers came after him because they hated his management style. i expected performance. >>reporter: and he added no work environment. >> if it happened the police department as it exists are the biggest congregation of cowards on the face of the earth. >>reporter: jail time for oliver was suspended he got two years probation 1600 bucks in

also agreed to never be an ohio police officer again. >> i think david oliver should be held to a higher standard because of his position not receive a get out of jail free card because of it. >>reporter: david oliver was also found guilty today of attempted theft in office. among the claims that he took $500 meant for charity and never accounted for it. in the meantime cristal global has filed a civil suit that's pending in stark county. bob jones news channel 5. tonight a victory for the family of a local woman who was throwing incident. their efforts to push for more prescribingtive fencing on effect. kristin, motorists will see that change over time correct. >>reporter: that's right. the rule states that all new protective metal shield. and all of those under repair

the ohio department of transportation changed its policy after the budd family spearheaded a statewide effort to make bridges lower secure. sharon budd was severely injured a year and-a-half ago when three young men threw a rock at the car she was traveling in from a highway overpass. the change means that 108 bridges in ohio will get protective fencing over the next five years. after that any new constructed bridge or one under construction will get the fencing as well at minimal cost to taxpayers. here's what sharon and her husband randy had to say about the news. >> randy and i feel if there would have been barriers on that overpass that the whole incident that happened to me would have most likely been prevented. >> there's so many negative things to think about but we try to turn on the positive we try to focus on sharon and what we can do to make the difference. >>reporter: even though sharon's incident happened in pennsylvania randy budd told me

we warm it up again tomorrow and then cool you down. i'm tell if you the arctic air will make a return this week, next. night out to dinner spoiled for and a von lake woman after discovering her wallet was gone taken from right underneath her nose. tracy carloss has that store from westlake. >>reporter: take a good look at these pictures. westlake supplies captain guy turner told me this woman stole wallet out of another woman's purse and then went on a shopping spree a week before christmas. turner explained to me the woman was having dinner at the yard house she put her purse over the chair and that's when police tell me this woman reached in and grabbed the wallet in a very crowded restaurant. police tell me this woman then wracked up more than $5,000 in charges at rite-aid, best buy and gamestop all in north olmsted. these surveillance pictures are from gamestop where she spent

>> these people were well prepared. they created a phony driver's license within an hour to present to -- it was a louisiana driver's license. your average store clerk doesn't know what a louisiana driver's license -- all they do is slap the name on it they are in business. they were well prepared. >> cuyahoga falls police are looking for help identifying these men they say with shoes in hand they walked right out of the door of a shoe store without paying. anyone who may recognize the men in these photos are asked to give police a call. akron police say shortly before closing last night a man robbed a dollar general store on burnham odom boulevard with a gun. the man demanded money from the register then took off. packages from several front steps are gone. over the last several weeks the

on broccoli after any gil avenue and brooklyn boulevard. several homeowners found the original packaging but items were gone. firefighters had a busy day on monday responding to at least 3 different fires on the east side. this was one of two fires they responded to cornell avenue. three people were inside of the house at the time. but they were able to make it out safely. crews in berea struggling to get flames under control in this house fire. it broke out on lincoln avenue around 10:00 this morning inside one of the walls in that home. two women insides were able to escape as well as two dogs. one woman though we're told was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. the house is being considered a total loss. a report from the attorney general's office shows 100 people were arrested last year for human trafficking. of those arrests 33 people were convicted. the report also shows that 196 of the 203 documented victims were female. most of the victims were

but there were also a large number of 14 and 15-year-olds and victims younger than 12. an indiana couple is this jail tonight after getting high on heroin and getting in a car accident with their children inside. police say 27-year-old amanda gordon and 27-year-old clay ford wilson injected themselves with the drug while on interstate 74. gordon who were driving the car at the time began to experience an overdose losing control of the car and crashing it into some trees. wilson and gordon were both he jerked from the car. but the children were uninjured. they say the bond between an officer and k-9 is a strong one. so you can imagine the grief when a k-9 is loft in the line of duty. it is a grief we saw on display in canton earlier this month. when officer ryan said good-bye to jethro. but it is time for officer davis to get back on the street and he's getting a new partner right now. >>reporter: we all grieve with

when jethro was shot and killed while trying to stop a burglary suspect. now his partner is getting a new k-9 thanks to a houston base nonprofit group. his in houston to begin the process of selecting the next k- 9. he spent time at the houston k-9 academy to choose one of the animals trained there. it's a decision that can be overwhelming and very emotional. so houston k-9 officers will be there for support and that includes another officer who loft his k-9 because as davis claims the bond goes beyond that of an animal and his master. >> family member is the easiest way. they are 100% with you. i spend more time with them than i do with my family. i'm home with the family the partner is there with he. i go to work he's the only one that goes with me. so i'm with him all day. it's indescribable.

. we've been following a store for a while. the lead takened water crisis in flint continues. michigan's attorney general has announced who will be in charge of his investigation. he has picked former head of the fbi's detroit office to play a role in finding out how the water became so high in lead. the city of flint had changed water sources in 2014 in an effort to save money. the investigation could focus on if there was any official misconduct or if there were environmental laws that were broken. the attorney general also addressed flint residents still getting sent water bills even

. >> if you can't drink it you shouldn't pay for it. and i think it's an out rage to expect people would pay for something you can't drink drink. >> many efforts are underway to help raise money or donate water to the residents of flint as this crisis continues. ohio school had to close its doors today also over concerns of lead in its was watts. the epa now working to revoke the license in the village of sebring's water treatment plant after high levels of lead have been found in water there. the head of the epa wants a criminal investigation launched against the plant's operator saying there have been problems since last summer. they also believe reports may have been falsified. this weekend's blizzard will be what they talk about for years to come. >> millions of people trying to dig out from all the snow that fell from new york city

in washington d. c. federal officers closed for the day today. city officials there try to keep people off the roads to get them clear. the city saw anywhere from 17 inches to 22 inches of snow throughout the weekend and flights as you might imagine in and out of washington metro airport spent much of the day trying to get back on track after thousands were canceled over the weekend. on the other hand new york city is rebounding pretty well from this storm. the roads were reopened and most public transportation was back up and running today. central park saw 26.6 inches of snowfall from the storm. falling two tenths short of the largest snowfall in history. had had to be brave to be in that stuff. breaking news right now cleveland police and a swat team are outside of a home where a standoff is taking place. john is there right now. >>reporter: we're live at west 127th on cleveland west side south of interstate 90. i'll have the photograph zoom in. this is the situation the road

so it's going to take a little while to moisten the atmosphere so the raindrops reach the ground. 47 degrees today that's 12 above the norm of 35. 26 the low. i think we're going to see our low remember through january 6th our season so far was 1.4 inches. we have 8 inches of snow currently at hopkins airport for the season. we should have 30 inches. snowfall. >> we're not going to see much of this if any the storm system is pulling toward the north and east. hour by hour notice we reach an 10:00. upper 30s. then temps actually rise into the low to mid 40s by sunrise showers. but here's the best news of all.

this tomorrow afternoon. we'll drop into the middle 30s by this time tomorrow. this snow pulls northeast, but here's what i want you to see. where's the arctic air? it is pulled well back to the north. look at these temps 19, 16, 23. that's the arctic air and it is going to stay north until further notice. so even though a cold front is coming through, here's this other front protecting us. the arctic air is here. and that front is not going to drop in. so we'll cool down tomorrow, yes. but we're not going to be arctic cold anytime soon. 38 degrees tonight. rain arrives this evening. it will be scattered around overnight tonight not as cold. we'll reach a low between 9:00 and 10:00 of 38 degrees. and then temps rising. lower middle 40s by tomorrow morning's commute and that will be our high for tomorrow. 43 degrees during the morning hours rain could mix way little bit of wet snow by late morning into the afternoon.
