temperatures after we see colder temperatures during the week. >> it's been an up and down week, we'll see our temperatures rising today back into the upper 40s. some locations might hit 50 degrees. but this weekend, unseasonally mild. take a look outside. a few clouds are still floating out and about. but temperatures just off the mark this morning into the lower 30s. and yesterday, we were only into the upper 20s for our daytime high. you can see this warmer air continues to surge in. windchills will not be an issue after the sunrises. you can see by noon into the 2:00 hour, we'll be at 33 degrees. that's factoring in a south breeze, 15 to 20 miles per hour. now storm system that is tracking well to our north is what is producing a little bit of cloud coverage that we're currently seeing. you can see high pressure out towards inland areas and that's

partly to mostly cloudy conditions. well to our north, but that's what is creating the clouds to go into the greater cleveland area. this will change the game as we head into sunday and monday, but just soak up these temperatures. look at that. by 3:00, we are in the upper 40s. >> don't look too far ahead. thank you. a fire in an abandoned home quickly escalates. catching a neighboring home on fire. now neighbors are demanding answers after their complaints went unheard. news channel 5 tracked down the neighborhood's counseling. >> neighbors look out of their windows for what they know is next. consequence, cleanup, and repeat. folks had complained about this house for months. when it was still standing. >> it's nothing. just got to adapt to things. >> anthony anderson says ward 9 is littered with abandoned homes. >> on one street, you might

>> for my ward, over 100 houses that are vacant. >> councilman says demolishing a house costs $10,000. all of them seen as dangers to neighbors. >> i categorize my houses from the worse to the least worse house. >> this house was low on his list. just another abandoned home until someone makes it more. drug dealing, conwell says spending the annual grant money on demolishing abandoned homes doesn't add up. >> if they need other services and live in poverty, we have to use the money for that as well. >> some thought the fire at this abandoned home was out, but early friday morning, an ember rekindled concerns. flames nearly melted down another house where people are

>> and that was frank wiley reporting. in the city currently has about 6100 abandoned homes. that number actually down from three years ago when it was 7700 homes. but demolition does not come cheap. it would cost well over $60 million to knock all those houses down. a beloved businessman is being remembered this morning. 43-year-old, james emersa was found dead after a friday morning fire. the company's website says he was founded by jim's father 30 years ago, but he had been running the place. friends say he was always happy. >> i never saw him sad or anything. always motivated, you know. stay second-degree up late, got his stuff down. sometimes he wouldn't sleep. to get the orders out that he needed to do. >> firefighters found jim under debris that had collapsed during the fire. they believe the fire was an

police in athens say a serial rapist is on the prowl in that college town. take a good look at the sketch. dna evidence just linked the same men to three sexual assaults. the first one back in 2006. the other two last year. the attacks are similar. all of the victims, young women walking home in the early morning hours in the same part of town. >> clearly, the city of athens has a predator among us, and that person needs to turn himself in. >> athens, of course, home to ohio university. investigators say that a majority of rapes go unreported, so there may be more victims. >> the indians will head to arizona for spring training a little over two weeks from today. can you believe it? before they leave us for those warmer climates, they are giving fans a chance to have some fun with the team at today's tribe fest, that's where meg shaw is live at the

preview of today's event. meg. >> good morning, as you can tell, this year is different for fans. i'm not at progressive field, that's because there's more renovations happening at the park. so that's exciting for fans for this upcoming season. let's talk about today and what fans can experience. unlike in years past, all of today's activities will be today only in the past couple of years, it's been a two-day event. there are two sessions, one starts here in a few hours at 9:00 and another at 2:00. of course, all your favorite indians players will all be out here signing autographs, chatting with fans. there's also a slew of other activities for all the little ones, like visiting and inflatables. we have been so close to making playoffs, so we are really hoping this is the year. we really want some october

apple will exchange the plugs for free or refund because of the problem. now to another recall. you heard of the bagged lettuce from an idaho -- you shouldn't let down your guard just yet. stores are taking the salads off the shelves next week. you need to make sure you don't have any of the recalled lettuce in your fridge. under dole, fresh selections, simple truth, market side, president's choice, and the little salad bar. check for the letter a at the beginning of the manufacturing code. >> usually, it's associated with raw meat, unpasteurized dairy products, because listeria is found in soil and water, any fresh produce could have it. >> now for most people infected with listeria, the symptoms are stomach problems. one person has died and another 12 were hospitalized in this

lead levels in a drinking fountain. the district has also switched to bottled water until test results come back next week. in seabring, the state's epa director admitting his agency should have moved faster. state and federal lawmakers are asking why it took months before people found out about the contaminated water. congressman tim ryan is calling on that epa director to resign. >> and there's new details on the contaminated water in flint. the lead levels are too high for the water filters being given to people who live there. and water isn't the only source of lead. poisoning from old homes is still a bigger concern. the board of health says they see about 2,000 new child lead poisoning cases every year. to put it in perspective, that's half of all the cases in ohio. and while doctors are trained to ask about lead poisoning,

recommended and not required. >> that can actually be damaging to any organ in the body. but what we are particularly worried about is the developing brain. >> in september, the feds gave $7 million in grants to cleveland and kioga county to reduce the number of homes with toxic lead. >> now to a developing story, the hillary clinton campaign is demanding the state department to release 20 e-mails deemed top secret. from her time as secretary of state, but helped seven e-mail chains in full. those are said to contain heavily classified information. the clinton campaign stands by the position that none of the e- mails sent from her private server contain state secrets. the iowa caucuses are in just three days. the two leading democrats are fighting tooth and nail for every last vote. the latest poll show clinton and bernie sanders are now nearly tied.

temperatures will continue to steadily rise throughout the afternoon. 27 out towards strongsville. good morning out towards bedford into the upper 20s. that warm front continues to track more towards the north. that's what is allowing our temperatures to be on the mild side this morning. still dealing with that westerly breeze. so windchills this morning, the feel like temperature on your skin into the lower 20s. taking a look at the power of five, we are drying out. you can see well to our north, they are dealing with the storm system and that's allowing for a few more clouds to track in here. a shift in our winds out of the south from alabama all the way into st. louis. you can see this morning they are almost at 50 degrees. this warmer air really starts to track in to northeast ohio and daytime highs going to be into the upper 40s as we head into mid afternoon. do see that system towards our north.

mostly cloudy skies with our highs into the upper 40s. >> clearly this forecast has me all mixed up. only on 5 now, a woman rescued by cleveland firefighters after an evening drive turned terrifying. she wasn't the only one needing rescuing. chris has more on all the damage caused by a water main break. >> her car sits alone in the middle of a makeshift river. >> i thought i was going in the hole with the car. >> bibbons was on her way to pick up her daughter when she drove into the water main. she was finally rescued by the cleveland fire department. >> it it was very deep. he fell in the hole ask it went over his head. >> that firefighter slipped on ice while trying to push the car free. he also had to be rescued after he went under. >> i was scared i was going in there next. >> she was terrified and tonight considers that firefighter a hero.

almost lost his life today. so yeah. he is. he did real good. i was happy they got me out of the car. that's all i'm saying. >> scary situation to say the least. three firefighters got stella out of her car. as for the firefighter that went under, he's okay this morning. he's not guilty. drogin wasn't arraigned. he shot her last month after days after he was arrested on charges of trying to run her over with his car. and a jury found an akron woman guilty in the murder of her five children. tiffany powell and james harris were in a custody battle when powell and her boyfriend, paul reid, lured harris to her home and killed him. powell will be sentenced next month. reid is serving a life sentence.

for these two men who they say robbed a woman at gunpoint, targeting her as she left the great northern mall wednesday night. they took her wallet and used her credit cards a the a cleveland target. this is the license plate, believed to be a silver or gray ford focus. if you know who these guys are, you are urged to call police. >> and now to a channel 5 exclusive. growing parking problems for thousands who have to work or work at cleveland's justice center. open this summer in time for the republican national convention. but the city is clef land is allowing it to open without additional parking. those that work at the center say it will have a big impact on the judicial process. >> attorneys weren't there, defendants weren't there, prosecutors unable to get in. witnesses, court watchers. >> employees say they like to see a shuttle service added to

not an inch of accumulation for cleveland area. this doesn't look like this year will be one of the lowest for the season for snowfall, you can see 1932, less than an inch of accumulation. we are 27 inches below our normal for this time of year. now forecast for today, we are not talking about snow or rain. just temperatures unseasonally warm, we're going to hit the 50s toward richland county, wayne county, a few clouds floating through early this morning throughout the afternoon. we'll go with partly to mostly cloudy conditions. now winds still going to be a factor. but that's going to allow for that gradual warmup. hello to the hot spot, it goes to akron, we'll go with 51 to 52 degrees. if you think today looks good, take a good look at sunday afternoon. we do have rain chances late for sunday evening.

>> it certainly is, thanks, janessa. we're taking a look at events. the young professionals of the alzheimer's association are -- that's at 8:00 tonight in cleveland. also happening today in cleveland, the tattoo arts convention continues at the first merit convention center and allows tattoo enthusists to show off their ink, and maybe even get a new tattoo. the sports fans can head to quicken loans arena. the lake erie monsters, this is the second game in that series. last night, the monsters won 3- 2. and of course, it will be a quick turn around from hockey to basketball. the cavs go head to head with the spurs at 8:30. huge game as the cavs look for that signature win. you can watch that game right

you can't say that. >> that is carol baker repeating what she said in a courtroom that led to her arrest. the suspect went off during her hearing. yelling at the judge, threatening to stab the prosecutor as well. officers tracked her down after she left the mew municipal building and say she did have a 3-inch knife in her possession. >> a lot of times people make threats, but they don't have the means to carry it out. it's just idle. she could have pulled that out and started cutting. >> baker was charged with inducing panic, retaliation, and carrying a concealed weapon. by the way, the municipal building has some security cameras, but no metal detectors. the city is applying for grants to get them. and a united nations group is suggesting the u.s. consider making amends to african americans by publicly acknowledging the slave trade

after meeting with african americans, the group will present several suggestions for changes in the u.s. to the u.n. human rights council in september. a federal judge is refusing to release three men from jail. the main figures behind the arm standoff at an oregon wildlife refuge. she is concerned they won't follow orders to return to oregon for criminal proceedings. the judge will release people only if the standoff ends. four holdouts still are occupying that refuge. well the netflix show, making a murder, continues to earn the focal point. more than 100 supporters gathered near a wisconsin courthouse yesterday morning to protest avery's murder conviction. he was convicted of killing teresa in 2005. not everyone was there to show support. some were there to voice their belief that he is, indeed, guilty. avery filed an appeal earlier this month.

our story begins here. in the cleveland area called ohio city, brewing takes place. great lakes is a craft brewery. that means it is brewers interpret historic styles with unique twists and producing new styles. as a craft brewery, it makes less than 6 million-barrels a year. small brewery when compared to the big boys. but this big taste has followers. >> i believe this is our 75- barrel brew house. everything you have found in a bottle or ekg come out of this very room. >> caroline mcdonald tells the story of dan and patrick conaway who started this operation in 1988. the little brewery that could, and did, and does. >> only brewed 1,000 barrels in that first year and now we are up to 165,000 a year. >> a lot and a lot of attention

>> lots of talk, even from the walls. the storied walls tell of cleveland's beer making history. when there were many brewers. >> by 1832, there was brewing here. in 1820s, only 600 people living in cleveland. so pretty important part of this city right from the start. >> this place has been a tavern since 1872. it was in 1901, they put the bar in right there. eventually, along time prohibition and they put the bar in storage. that's when the salvation army moved in right here. eventually prohibition was repealed and the bar came back. and it's been back ever since. >> impressive stuff. >> it is. >> equally impressive is what else the brewery inspired. other companies in this ohio city neighborhood moved in, too. yes, the new kid on the block brought new business, although it was an old idea. >> in the early days of the
