january 31st. hard to imagine. >> i feel like i'm into the matrix or something. where am i? greater cleveland area. we just hit 55 for downtown cleveland. so pretty unreal temperatures this morning. and you know on friday i was talking about daytime highs into the upper 20s. so we're going to continue to see the thermometer click up just a few more clicks throughout the afternoon. we'll go with upper 50s across the boards. january. right now we are at 53 out towards richland county. a little bit of cooler air west. cloud coverage. yesterday we were sitting in a lot of sunshine. we are tracking storms well towards our north. to float in here. day. also tracking that rain. i told you yesterday if you don't do it.

west out towards omaha and the with a little snow. as this system continues to track in from the west, it will bring along with it a cold front. windy weather going to be picking up out of the south, 15 to 20 miles per hour as that front moves through. around 8:00 p.m., all the way into overnight, extending into your early morning commute. dealing with rain and windy weather. daytime highs. i think this model is very much on the low side. we're already at 55. as we head into about 3:00, degrees. count on the rain moving in >> okay. we start this morning with developing news here from the live desk. right now cleveland police an infant. they tell us their sex crimes and child abuse departments were notified after baby drowning at a cleveland home. as the child was taken to hospital. no word on the baby's condition.

information as we get it. more news. a police chase ends in a crash on cleveland's east side. it happened around 5:00 yesterday. officials tell us the suspects jumped out of that car after hitting a house and crashing and then ran away. no word yet on any arrests. willoughby police investigating a fatal crash involving pedestrians. it happened last night just before 7:00. police tell us a 73-year-old man hit two pedestrians with his truck. the two people walking on the road were a 50-year-old man and a 57-year-old female both from east lake. they were taken to a hospital where the woman later deed died. the driver was not injured and has been arrested for vehicular homicide and ovi. today is the last day you can sign up for health insurance through the federal market place. if you already are covered, well you could face steep fines select coverage. meg shaw has everything you need to know.

federal officials say the extended. nearly $700 in fines you'll possible. right now more than 226,000 ohioans have already enrolled or have their coverage automatically renewed with more than 80,000 of those people area. just this past week the number of people trying to enroll on the federal healthcare market place jumped by 50%. officials say signing up using healthcare.gov is faster, however you can call the 1-800 number listed on your screen. if you sign up by today your coverage will begin on march 1st and if you miss today's deadline you'll face the fines and being uninsured for the entire year. you have until midnight to enroll. if you need help with sign up, visit our app for a list of centers in cleveland. nick. >> thank you. definitely a deadline people need to be aware of.

the state's heroin epidemic for a recent up tick in -- urging car owners to hide their valuables. this after several people who live in a normally quiet apartment complex had their windows smashed in. many people arrested for crimes like burglary are heroin addicts. nearly 1200 people died of heroin overdoses in ohio in 2014. the most ever. 2015 numbers have not yet been released. in elyria several churches are stepping up to help the homeless community. the city does not have a term innocent shelter for those in need. st. andrew's, first united methodist and first presbyterian are working to make sure everyone has a place to spend the night. from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. from now until april the churches will be open as shelters. the ohio department of transportation is now testing out some new technology that helps keep drivers informed on road conditions.

welcome back. just into the newsroom, the death toll from a series of deadly explosions in syria continues to rise. right now at least 45 people are dead in the capital city. the blasts come as a un envoy attempts peace talks. three explosions went off this morning at a bus station. isis is claiming responsibility online. denver police are still on scene at an expo center where yesterday. the violence broke out at the colorado motorcycle expo. four of the victims were shot.

and the others injured in fistfights. >> just seems chaotic. you know everybody started taking off. couple of the actual motorcycle clubs took off already. >> police say they are interviewing a person of interest but they believe there was one -- more than one shooter. they would not confirm if any of those involved were members of motorcycle gangs. investigators have found the remains of a 13-year-old girl from virginia who has been missing for days. nicole madison lovell was last seen at a home wednesday night. virginia tech freshman david eisenhower is charged with her murder and abduction. investigators identified him through tips on social media. just one day from now the iowa caucuses and the new poll is shedding light on where voters in the hawkeye state stand right now. the des moines register poll shows the democratic race is a dead heat. hillary clinton is just 3 points ahead of bernie sanders.

demoting from a four star general to a three star. the move would have affected his retirement salary. as a retired four star general, petraeus remains liable for any wrong doing he committed while on active duty. and president barack obama is about to make his first visit to a u.s. mosque as president. mr. obama will visit on wednesday. he is expected to hold a round table with community members and deliver remarks. a senior administration official said the president will celebrate the contribution of muslim americans to the nation. mr. obama has visited mosques overseas but never one during his presidency here in the united states. a woman in new hampshire is celebrating a big legal win. she prevailed in a lawsuit that accused the company of wrongfully firing her. 51-year-old maureen mcpaten will receive a $31 million pay out from the retailer. in 2012 she was working at the

today what you're going to notice is a lot more cloud coverage as the storm system is starting to push our way. out towards summit county. a little bit of sunshine this morning. but that's going to fade away as we head into mid afternoon. friday afternoon when i saw you degrees. yesterday look at that official high of 57 degrees. we saw 56 out towards akron. i want to show you the bigger picture this morning. they are already at 56 for the akron area and going to continue to warm up. at the airport currently at 55 degrees. so across the board we continue to deal with warmer temperatures. the lone soldier in ashtabula county. you're on the mild side. currently at 47 degrees. look at the clouds. they're thickening up due to a system well towards our north. that's why we'll sit under cloudy skies for the rest of your day. taking a look at where this warm air is coming from, you can thank the winds.

and that's what's allowing the gradual warming. you can see from alabama all the way into jackson area, they're sitting in the 60s. some of this air continues to flow across northeast ohio. want to show you our hour by hour. we are already sitting at 55. so these models here, they're a little bit off temperature wise. but you really can count on the icons, the cloud coverage. definitely going to be in full effect along with the winds. 15 to 20 miles per hour. this is our storm system for today. it's a very weak cold front. it starts to enter around 8:00 p.m. tonight. so no threats of any moisture throughout your afternoon around 8:00, 9:00 tonight. timing is everything. that's when we start to see that rain start to flow through. the bigger story throughout the week is this pacific storm that's going to be affecting the west coast. severe weather out towards the south. northeast ohio, what's going to happen here is a warm front is going to track in monday,

>> reporter: this story is taking off. officer matthew hickey retired earlier this week after more than 30 years. he planned to pay for the dog the day he retired. the city of marietta says the k9 is city property and he must go to auction. his partner of three years ajack was appraised for $3500. the city says they are under strict rules because state and federal funds may have been used to purchase him. technically forfeited his right to buy ajax when he decided to retire. >> we need to start a -- the state and get legislation passed to where officers that retire in good standing gets the k9. >> a go fund me account was started. i've been keeping an eye on the account. almost $40,000 have been donated. any money left over after the auction will be donated to purchase bullet proof vests for

while the cavs clicked on all cylinders, it wasn't all smooth sailing. he started the game wearing the wrong shorts. james was wearing the standard issue gold shorts while the rest of the team was wearing the classic uniform shorts. the equipment staff noticed, gave him the right shorts to change into. the team says an attendant put the wrong shorts in lebron's locker. new to browns news. once again johnny manziel doing his best to stay in the news for the wrong reasons. he was involved in another altercation with his girlfriend. it is the second time manziel has been questioned about an altercation with his girlfriend but not arrested. we want to show you dash cam video from avon. police following a roadway incident last year. it is the latest incident. -- in this last incident fort worth police were called to an apartment complex. manziel's former girlfriend told police she was concerned about him. officers questioned manziel but

they can ask the class or their pictures. senioritis. more and more students in our early. reporter laura wilson tells us about the initiatives to get kids further, faster. >> we take students, top with potential. college credit plus initiative in 2015, part of the idea was to make sure all ohio high schoolers knew about it. >> the program allows for greater access, increase enrollment in ap courses, how we offer additional support for our students. >> so they required every school district to explain the free college opportunity. participation increased. >> we've seen about a to percent increase. >> statewide nearly 32,000

since the inception. that's doubled from the state's previous post secondary program. >> our goal is to provide students with college experience especially and exposures. >> a senior at cleveland heights high school. but is also a full time college student at john carroll university. >> it's overwhelming at first. like, that's it? >> he's part of the first graduating class, a function of college credit plus that starts kids off in ninth grade. >> i felt prepared to be on equal level with all the college students. >> in the fall he'll be stepping into college as a junior, giving him only two years left to complete his undergrad. >> it feels great. it makes me feel like all this was worth it. all my hard work has paid off. >> good to see that achievement there. college credit plus is set to see more growth this year as it has expanded to include summer classes.
