presidential. now at 11, a live report from iowa minutes deer drama. new concerns about a controversial plan to send the herd. news channel 5 starts now. very gruesome. very bloody. a local community's plan to deal with too many deer is causing controversy as news channel 5 investigators jonathan walsh tells us, they say culling opponents say the way it will be done is down right cruel. 35 years. >> reporter: she is spearheading a movement against a method to get rid of deer.

and bolt, and was horrified at what i found out. >> reporter: some in the audience of 50 people were disturbed as well. we want show you the video of the method. it's too graphic for tv. notice the reaction of the turning away. shielding their eyes. shaking their heads. deer are caught in a cage. >> they attempt to fire a four inch metal rod into the deer's brain rich the paperwork shows the ohio division of wildlife has approved the city's use of trap and bolt. it also shows the city's deer population is unsafe and that accident involving deer have shot up 500% in the last three years. betsy tray bin was at the meeting. she checked records since 2014 about deer. >> i feel with the population of 14,000 people, getting 31 calls on deer over the past over two years is not a problem.

shots into a home hitting a man in the arm. according to the sandusky register investigators believe the group planned to rob the victim. additional charges are pending. right now cleveland police are looking for two men who crashed a stolen vehicle into a home on the city's east side. news channel 5 was the only crew on scene minutes after it happened. state troopers tried to stop an suv after discovering it was stolen. the vehicle slammed into a house rocking the foundation. >> it was so devastating to see. >> you see where it just lifted everything up all the way down. >> reporter: the suspects took off on foot. police are now asking anyone with information to come forward. this eastlake man is due in court tomorrow in connection with a deadly accident in willoughby. police say 73-year-old rudolph baitt was drunk when he hit two people on lock nation road saturday night.

him up in ohio. >> we are going to win ohio. i like john kasich very much. the problem is they did a poll in ohio and i am beating him by a lot. he is the serving governor. >> reporter: his he remarks came in council bluffs. kasich picked up the backing of the local paper and maryann. >> make sure our supporters get out there. we are lining up people to speak as many caucuses as we can. i am distributing literature all over southwest iowa. >> reporter: she and former iowa speaker of the house brent seacrest understand his decision to go all in new hampshire where he can have an impact here. >> it had him at 2%. anything above that's gonna be above exceptions. and i think the difference between like fifth and tenth is probably going to be a couple points. >> reporter: and governor john kasich the only one of the candidates not to campaign here

normal high this time of the year in the mid 30s. we didn't break any records today. again temperatures well above average both saturday and sunday. but this is coming to an end. take a look. cold front coming in. that will bring us some rain. no thunder or anything like that. just showers around. notice already toledo 12 degrees cooler than where we are here in northern ohio. rain showers. a quick burst of wet weather. this is like maybe a 10-minute rain, a heavy rain where you see the yellows and the oranges there just off to the west. now we are starting to see the rain move in. avon, avon lake, rain, lorain county, heading back to the south and west. we have got showers huron, wakeman. the islands are drying out as that colder air will rush in and we will feel the difference, as i mentioned, starting today, tomorrow morning. look at this cool air behind this front. 35 in chicago. it's 33 right now in green bay. a big-time snowstorm out there to pound iowa.

kossick out of there tomorrow night. falling temps during the morning hours. you know although we have had a milder winter than normal, if you are homeless it is still cold living on the streets. tonight the community and cleveland's second district police officers are teaming up to help. bags filled with socks, hats, gloves, and warm winter clothing line the hallway of the second district. >> i hope it helps people. >> reporter: for the second year in a row cleveland police sergeant mitch sheehan has spearheaded a clothing drive to help the homeless. >> some just have a mental illness that they have had and there is no one to take care of them. they have nowhere to go and they can't get jobs. the shelters are some of the few places that take care of them. >> reporter: and the community has responded. last year he tells me they collected thousands of items of clothing. this year they have already made

off warm clothes for those who have no place to call home. >> we are just about out of clothes. so they came tonight with 48 coats. underwear. clothing, other types of clothing as well. >> reporter: sheehan explained he started the program when he stopped by the church and saw an empty bin. the church had run out of clothes. >> there is a lot of homeless camps and there is a lot of homeless people running the streets and the shelters aren't always open for them and it's sad when you see someone freezing outside and there is not much you can do for them. >> reporter: but the community and second district police officers are doing something. helping the homeless one piece of clothing at a time. now, the clothing drive continues until february 7th. donations can be dropped off at the second district headquarters on fulton road. well, donations are pouring in by the thousands to help a retired ohio police officer keep his long-time k-9 partner. a gofundme page has been set up

matthew hickey and it has raised more than $53,000 in two days. the money will be used to bid on k-9 ajax. the dog is considered city property and must be sold at auction. >> really do appreciate it. i don't know how i can ever repay the people. i am very touched by their enthusiasm. >> now, assuming that hickey is able to purchase ajax, the rest of the money goes to other k-9 ions to purchase bullet-proof vests for the dogs. in canton police officers new k-9 companion is expected to start training with the department tomorrow. a texas organization donated him to officer ryan davis after his pathner jethro was killed in the line of duty earlier this month. according to the canton repository after he completes 14 weeks of training he will patrol with davis on the midnight shift. coming up, stopping the

we are learning more about a deadly fight that shut down a motorcycle show in denver. denver police are not confirming which motorcycle clubs were involved in the shooting and stabbing attack that left one dead and seven other injuries. an attorney says the colorado department of corrections worker fired a shot in self-defense during the melee. the officer is a member of the iron order motorcycle club made up mostly of police and military. we are following late breaking details in a murder investigation. two virginia tech students are in custody tonight in connection with the death of a 13-year-old girl who vanished days ago. police arrested and charged an 18 man with abduction and murder and a 19-year-old female student was taken into custody hours ago. she is accused of helping to tis pose of the body. now growing concerns about the zika virus. the sickness is spreading

south america and it is linked to birth defects. today new york senator chuck schumer announced a plan in the u.s. he wants the federal government to deploy resources to the countries to contain "the interview." he wants the government to develop a vaccine and cure it. >> we all remember when people reacted too late to ebola, and there was a lot of fear. they caught up with it finally and it didn't spread. but we don't want it to have to go through that with zika. >> schumer urged the world health organization to declare a public health emergency. a major drugstore chain is helping fight ohio's growing heroin epidemic. cvs is expect odd to announce tomorrow they will make an anecdote available at stores here in the buckeye state. the drug known as narcan can reverse effects of the drug.

much of the extra virgin oil sold in supermarkets is not the real thing. >> the vast majority on the shelves is not real. >> reporter: the report and several recent lawsuits claim many brands are blends of oil. a dozen different flavors of true olive oil. in there. >> reporter: imported from their family's olive oil on the greek island crete. how do you know you are getting the real thing? the folks say the smaller the producer, the better. >> they have no incentive to adulter rate the oil. >> reporter: recent investigations say watch for the terms imported from or tapped in italy. that often means oil from multiple countries. if it's the cheapest on the shelf, you risk a bitter flavored blend. after a few tastes these ladies decided to pay a bit more.

wouldn't be surprised for that to drop to 52 or 53 next hour. take a look. this is the last surge of warm air because cold air moving in along this area. we will see a quick burst of wet weather, the winds will gusty and temperatures fall off. the rain showers right now north and west of downtown. also the same deal. notice this yellow, this orange. this is moving on shore. northern lake county a good hit of rain over the next 15 to 20 minutes and that line west of cleveland through portions of lorain county as well. getting rain. river, north homestead, strongsville, brunsville, medina you are next as this moves west-east. no thunder. a good dose of wet weather outside of mansfield and ashton. colder air again. that's gonna be the big weather story through the overnight and tomorrow morning. this will fly in as we head

difference. look what's happening out west. they are getting snow in blizzard warnings out. iowa. though after the caucuses. night. away from the polls. it will be interesting to see maybe in preparation for the big snow on tuesday. so hour by hour for us temperatures tomorrow morning around 40. we will fall through the 30s in the morning time and then is the afternoon. overnight. the 50s but then quickly we morning. so almost a 20-degree drop from tomorrow morning. mostly cloudy skies. out. so for the most part we are talking about mainly cloudy skies and any rain showers that 38 tonight.
