good afternoon, everybody. this is leon bibb with news breaking at the noon hour. eight former employees of jimmy haslan's travel plan travel centers have been indicted for their roles in the rebate fraud and include mark hazelwood and former president john freeman. haslan has never been charged with the crime and has been cooperating fully with federal

raided his place in 2013. the federal agents estimate the fraud reached $56 million. also, the department of health confirms the state's first case of zika virus and it's here in cleveland. a 30-year-old woman returns from haiti tested positive. zika is transmitted through mosquito bites but can't be spread person-to-person through casual contact. most people getting the virus show no symptoms but it's being linked to birth defects if a woman is pregnant when infected. >> and a 17-year-old high school student appeared in court today for what police called his role in the death of a kent state university student. nick massa died sunday from a gunshot at an offcampus apartment complex. meg shaw has the latest from portage county. the 17-year-old appeared before a judge today at the portage county juvenile court. and right now, he's charged

and today, the prosecutor filed a motion to have him tried as an adult. he was shot and killed sunday evening after three males charged into an apartment he was visiting. he dies on the scene. the 17-year-old male charged is a student at monroe falls high school. and it's not clear if he had any connection to the westlake grad. police are still searches for two others who may have been involved in his death. those who knew him say he will be greatly missed. >> he was late in the class. i could count on him to answer questions or chime in before i had to ask anyone to do anything. >> reporter: the juvenile should, peer some time in the first week of march to determine if he will be tried as an adult. meantime, he's being held at the juvenile detention is the in portage county. and other news today, a man whom police say helped kill an elderly couple from

at least 50 years in prison. jeffrey stewart was sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated murder and other charges. stewart and robert clark broke into the home of a couple last year, kidnapped them and killed them. clark was sentenced to life in prison without parole in august. and ohio e.p.a. said new water tests in the mahoning county of sebring found high levels of lead in at least 30 homes, and more than 600 homeowners submitted water samples. according to published reports, sebring spent more than $60 million to correct the water issues. the village expects the costs to climb as buffalo water continues there. >> reporter: over to jason nicholas with a look at the weather forecast and how are we look something. >> so far so good. we have a pattern that is going to be persistent and stall out and that is going to keep us relatively unsettled and chilly

as philadelphia police repair to issue a warrant for his arrest in connection with a bar brawl. two philadelphia police incident. the bills released a statement saying they were aware of the information. the nfl was also investigating. and in the meantime, bronx quarterback johnny -- browns quarterback johnny manziel is facing problems of his own. in an affidavit, he allegedly hit his girlfriend so hard she lost hearing in the ear. the cleveland browns organization is expected to release him early next month. and a u.s. senator wants federal officials to investigate why royal caribbean continue to cruise despite warnings of severe storms. rocked by 30-foot waves, forcing passengers to stay in their cabins for hours. the ship eventually sailed back to the homeport in new jersey and there were no serious injuries reported and the ship suddenned -- sustained minor

so, there you see vermilion to huron with the light snow. it's snowing. sandusky, cedar point, catawba island, kelly's island, puttin' bay all getting the snow right now. this is moving toward downtown cleveland and expect snow here for downtown and into the west side the next hour to two hours and the evening commute may have snowflakes flying around and that is a mess. it looks like some kind of strange alien check. it's an area of low pressure over the lake and we have winds around it and that also brings us in some shots of cold air. because of the persistent flow to the north-northwest, we have lake geauga, ashtabula county, six-12 plus. it's possible within that area. again, as you know, squall -- you can probably mentally add eastern cuyahoga county, even

watch at this point. that may change. we end up having a snow advisory for cuyahoga. hour-by-hour again, the forecast. accumulations during the day today will be up to an inch. and that is about it. not a big deal today. tonight, we start the lake affect snow going and especially after 8:00 and east. south and west, not much as all. colder, 23 and looks like tomorrow. lake. >> august alessandro petacchier amounts south and west. and again, during the afternoon tomorrow and on thursday. you see a half a fast snow between now and then. look at the cold air for the weekend, though. the high temperatures in the teens, and lows in single digits. my goodness, for a big expo in the south park mall, be sure to bundle up.
