. good afternoon, everybody. this is leon bibb with a greater cleveland show called the lake affect snow machine. it is a show-and-tell of snow as it began turning overnight area. they will see snow today, especially in the snowbelt. along the truck, 80odot trucks slipping snow. if your back porch thermometer is low, wait until the weekend. more on the way. meteorologist jason nicholas

>> and there you see here on this side of the screen. that is a live picture for you. 480 and 77 right now, relatively quiet. we have a lake affect snow band heading there and into the bottom left corner of the screen there, that is a live look. u cloudy, the heavy snow band has moved through downtown cleveland the last hour or so and we have seen blinding snowfall, lower visibilities and heavy snow. we're talking up to two inches of snowfall per hour and that is heavy snow. we talk about one to two-each per hour snowfall and that is heavy snow. there is the heavy snow band again. the area in purple and in this red box. this is sliding south. so, eventually here into southern cuyahoga county and northern medina, and also into northern summit county as the band drifts south and east. take a look now. 71 and 77 heading out of downtown cleveland. and the low visibilities as well as snow-covered roads downtown travel. very slow and slick at this time. notice 71 there as you head

480 right now as you saw during the live shot and not that bad. that snowband is to the north and 77 right now, not good until you get into southern cuyahoga county and northern sections -- section of the county. fairview park getting hammered. westlake, the heavy snow is to the south. the airport is getting snow right now as well. the same deal with brookepark. we head farther south and east and south of downtown cleveland, shaker heights, warrensville heights and 271 not good. travelwise right now and into geauga county, we're seeing the snow again. where jeff you see the purples and darker blues indicate the heavy snowband. not as bad as you head through medina and akron. the snow is coming with the band on shore and into the west and we have advisories out for the lake county, cuyahoga county and lakeshore area. we have the lake snow warning. no longer a watch for areas of geauga and into ashtabula county.

and hour-by-hour temperatures into the 20s. lake affect snow possible this we'll break down the bit. >>. and live in storm tracker 5. bad downtown. through the band. what are you seeing right now? >> reporter: yeah, we drove a little too fast and we were hoping to stay with it. we drove fast but it's a word to the wise because those driving on fetch north think the roads are completely clear. and they're not going to be in the near future. we had whiteout driving conditions and slushy downtown as well and driving around 20 miles an hour and less than the actual posted speed limit. you can expect that drivers will be going slower than that and some go fast, some go slow and that is a concern downtown and that band is on the move,

few years. >> reporter: that's right. 600 calls were certified here the past few years and that is what the mayor of brookepark and county prosecutor told us. they said the hotel here, the travel lodge is a haven for drug and human trafficking and all much these cars in the parking lot are -- and most are parked illegally this is an illegal park and slide area and there are a dozen police and sheriff's cars outside and more than a dozen officers and deputies inside and a large sign on the front door reads no trespassing allowed and we're learning there are many travel lodge. 13-year-old son. he had no idea he was going to be kicked out today and thankfully there is a church next door and that church is northern to go. he told us he's been here for four months and this has been a bad place to be.

withing about flakes coming off of the lake and we're talking about one to two inches per hour with this cent push. a lot of slush on area roadways and 60 and we're going about 40 to 50 on average and we picked up just recently. and some drivers are really cautious out there even turning on their hazards. i want to show you where we're driving to see you and give an idea if you're leaving any time soon and those roads are slick and again no-covered where they were cleared earlier this morning and that is big is any nice. and that is what we're driving through. i want to show you the road ways again. we'll find more and more snow- covered roads and slow drivers and whiteout driving conditions. overly cautious and we'll stretch in with jason nicholas. for now, back to you.

and there is a massive airbag recall and it's responding again. daimler and mercedes-benz issued recalls on 640,000 cars and that is because of takata airbags that might be affected. owners will be notified if their vehicles are on the recall list. they have been forced to issue recalls because of the defective air bags that can explode without warning. they have caused 10 deaths worldwide. and gasoline prices are creeping closer to $1 a gallon. drivers in 9 midwest states includeing in ohio could see prices den below the dollar mark by next week and most of the country is playing less than $2 a gallon for regular gas on average.

few moments ago and just really telling the story and how quickly things can change in an environment like this. >> reporter: they really have. we drove in and out of it and i will say the biggest thing for us, we have only seen one snow plow slow on the on-ramps and offramps. you can see a plow ahead of us and that is the first one we have soon and we have been driving now for 20, 25 minutes dead man's curb and we want to see what the conditions are like as we get close to downtown. of now. slush is everywhere. just as i got off with you last, we saw a spinout. thankfully no one got hurt and we didn't hear anyone hit each other but we saw a spinout and that is causing spinouts at now, the heaviest snow, we're driving out of it a bit, about

the teeta men exit, 480, brooklyn heights, parma parma hides and brooklyn to the west and the airport getting good snow and another burst south of rocky river and into interstate 77 and once it meets 480 there and a heavily travelled area garfield heights, maple hides -- heights as well and things are better across the south and that is where that band has yet to arrive and there is your band, south of cleveland and heading east. the lighter snows from akron towards medina and this is what we're dealing with very advisors and warning. and cuyahoga county, eastern cuyahoga county has been added to the advisory, four to 8-inch et cetera possible there and into the afternoon. the warning area, we're talking eight to 12 and there is a plus sign there indicating some spots wouldn't be surprised at all and interior sections of geauga county see more than a

they will be for everyone. we're under one downtown this morning between 11 and noon and that is not pretty. south. what about the drive home? lake affect snow possible for akron, south of downtown and northern medina county and getting some as well and things continue into tonight before a bit of a slowdown into the overnight and during the day tomorrow and turning colder with highs in the teens. 22 today and lake snow, another one to three tonight and -- and the latest thursday morning friday with a break. winter's here, highs in the single digits. we're back after this and on
