one bern is dead after a house in bay village goes up in flames. >> and the first to break this story as firefighters from half a dozen departments fight the flames. >> and, frank, firefighters and investigators are still on scene. >> reporter: it took 45 minutes for firefighters to put out the flames here. crews are still out here making sure there aren't any hotspots. here's the story inside that burned out house. >> reporter: folks watched with smoke-filled eyes and a broken heart. they say it was larger than life. >> they were a good 20, 25 feet. >> reporter: flames too tall for firefighters to knock down quickly. breathtaking. >> yeah. the carbon monoxide, and --

thicker than the flames inhaled. >> reporter: just a few sparks, but now, no more house for them to feed on. neighbors called 911. they did spotlight someone staggering out of the world crumbling behind him. >> we were walking by and we saw an old guy out in the front. couldn't tell if somebody was in there or not. >> i have done this a number of years and a lot of fires like that. but they all leaf kind of a pit in your -- leave kind of a pit in your stomach. it's hard to see. >> reporter: he saw the body on the living room floor. >> just shooken up. >> reporter: part of the collapsed roof next to it. >> reporter: and firefighters did not say who that person was they found inside the home dead. live in bay village, frank wiley, newschannel 5. >> the ground shook, the windows shook -- >> the whole building shook, yeah. even dust to the floor. >> oh, my god! it just exploded! >> we have watched these videos dozens of times and it is still terrifying. seeing the blast that shook crocker park in the intense flames that followed. it's still unbelievable no one was seriously hurt. but tonight, the recovery is still beginning. we're waiting to find out how the blast started. but we know the fire was near two propane tanks near the american greetings headquarters in west lake. >> the two tanks exploded. chris flannigan back out live at crocker park. that blast is having a big impact on other businesses and people who just happen to be nearby. >> reporter: yeah. it certainly is. and today many businesses and restaurants here at crocker park closed early because of the explosion. they, of course, felt an economic impact.

impact from today's explosion quite literally. >> this talks, too, about the oxygen in the er for the patient. >> reporter: karen law letter is a rej -- lawler is a registered nurse. she was with a patient when she felt the building rock. >> the explosion was very loud. you definitely knew it was some type of explosion. the shaking was enough to make us -- the patient and i walking next to each other, sidestep a little bit. >> reporter: as a precaution, carry and her staff immediately shut off these yellow and green medical gas tanks. tonight at the surgery center, benjamin haney gave a presentation. but on his way in, he couldn't believe what he was seeing at a red light. >> i completely saw the explosion. you could see flames go up. it was very quick. huge ball of flames and then debris started coming across.

no damage, though. inside, gas from the explosion permeated throughout the building about an hour. >> it was strong. you could smell it more in the front and obviously the back door here as well. it was an odor of natural gas as well. >> reporter: and we're told that doctor's office will be back open for business tomorrow morning. meanwhile, tonight we have learned that those two propane tanks were at the american greetings construction sites to keep the workers warm during the winter. since it's warmed up, they were scheduled to be removed. amerigas, who provided the tanks, say they are investigating what happened. there's been no issues there. a construction worker telling newschannel 5 today he recently heard the tanks were leaking. >> someone mentioned they had some leaks they took care of. and a couple days passed. >> reporter: so you heard about leaks before this?

get the a big endorsement tomorrow as well. they say the former gop presidential candidate -- i'll just repeat what you said. dr. ben carson is going to throw his support behind trump. trump has a news conference scheduled tomorrow morning. it's unclear if carson will be there. he just bowed out of the race last week after a big fall from the frontrunner position last year. we could also learn tomorrow if 17-year-olds will be allowed to vote in the primary last week. state law allows 17-year-olds to vote in a primary if they'll be 18 years old before the general election. but they are voting to elect delegates and not to nominate a candidate. a number of teens sued and the judge saw the case today. a huge drug trafficking ring, busted. >> $300,000 worth of drugs were seized and nine high level heroine dealers are under

lorain police say some of the heroine that led to at least eight deadly overdoses the last two weeks came from those guys. dianne king's son, nick, is one who was among the dead. he was just 17. >> it's not a painkiller. it kills people. it takes them away forever. >> >> and police are still looking for five other suspected drug dealers. those arrested could spend up convicted. new tonight, our colleague snapped this picture of a van on a flat bed after it was hit by a train in brook park today. the van got caught on the track and the driver couldn't move it in time. luckily the driver got out before the train smashed into it and no one on the train was hurt. police and the railroad company are investigating. a woman just stopping for

another live look at bay village right now where firefighters are still working to put out the hotspots of a deadly house fire there tonight. it took them 45 minutes to get the flames under control which stopped them from getting inside. a man was able to escape. one person was found dead in the living room. we have new video tonight of a carjacking caught on camera. >> it all unfolded at a busy gas station in north ridgeville. and you won't believe the request the driver made. >> and homa bash is live in the newsroom.

couple bizarre things from demanding a ride to leaving her getaway vehicle at the scene. take a look. >> i was just robbed at gunpoint. >> reporter: that's the 911 call from a woman just filling up her car at the bp gas station l orain road right after another woman held her it was around 7:00 a.m. last friday. the robber walks around to the woman's car, gets in, demands her cellphone and wallet and makes an unbelievable request. >> did they leave in the car or something? >> i had to drive her. there was a woman. i had to drive her to some place off of lear nagle. >> reporter: police say the robber rode over on this it's unique. pink with a crank set. they want you to take a close look, saying they don't want this type of person out in their neighborhoods. >> reporter: and the victim told police the robber was wearing a maroon pullup and had

and this is proof that you really need to listen to the saying, turn around; don't drown. mark says it all the time. you watch this driver lose control in mississippi. then her car plunges in the deep waters in the median. a good samaritan waded in the water to rescue the woman. look at that! and even a little ponding like we saw earlier today on some local highways can cause you to -- >> yeah! >> hydroplain can happen quickly. you only -- hydroplane can happen quickly. you only need a couple inches of water. that is a big deal. people go over the same area. they think they know how deep the water is. >> and you can't tell how deep it is! >> no, you can't. you have that situation. >> turn around! >> and luckily someone was helping her. >> yeah. >> they still have a lot of rain across the deep south. the areas in maroon are areas flash flood warnings. the icons there -- it's hard to see -- but those circles indicate where flooding conditions occurred within the

so big time flooding here through portions of louisiana all the way through mississippi, alabama, and texas as well. for us, not anything like that thankfully. just some high water issues across some typical spots. for the most part, under an inch or so of rain. 39 degrees currently downtown cleveland. we have that light rainfalling. but for the most part, the heavier rains are now south and east. lower 40s. cold front has moved through. so the cold air, lagging behind a little bit. but it'll get here through the overnight and during your day tomorrow. so chilly along the lake shore. mid- to upper 40s downtown. we're drying things out other than maybe a little rain and sprinkles. that's about it. the steadier rain has shifted. barberton and portions of stark county getting rain. much of ashtabula getting good rain as well. as we head farther south and west, notice the few showers, wooster, and just south of downtown akron. but look to the west.

and for the day tomorrow. much of your day on saturday is dry, too. here's your back edge of rain. it's shifting from the northeast to the south and east. as that happens, drier, cooler air will come in. here's your shot of cold for tomorrow. in fact, temperatures tomorrow will be in the 30s for many of us to start the day. along the lake shore, we may be stuck in the 30s. maybe even through lunchtime. it'll be warmer south. but take a look. warmer commute. 5:00 to 8:00, temperatures in the upper 30s. we'll see a mix of clouds, maybe sunshine. but for the most part tomorrow, mainly cloudy start. can't rule out patchy fog tomorrow developing either. low to mid-30s. and a lot of this here is fog or at least low clouds. eventually that burns off by lunchtime. notice when you're 50 south. but 30s and 40s along the lake shore. tomorrow night, chilling out, too. some may flirt with freezing tomorrow. and sunday, a chance with a front approaching late in the day.
