good morning. i'm reena ninan. >> and i'm kendis gibson. here are some of the top headlines on this monday morning on "world news now." >> if the latest polls are to be believed, hillary clinton and donald trump will be the big winners in tomorrow's presidential primaries. voters will go to the polls in five delegate-rich states. all the political details straight ahead. about 100 vehicles were involved in nine separate accidents along a stretch of interstate 40 in central north carolina. the wet roadway and rubber necking may have contributed. there were no fwa at that times and the road has reopened. the faa is considering a controversial new plan that would use genetically modified mosquitos to fight transition of

of being the state's absentee senator. earlier trump offered his own interpretation of those interrupting his events. >> it was totally organized, troublemakers. troublemakers. you know, the truth is, they're disruptors. they're really disprupters. they're not protesters. they're disruptors. >> sated in kansas city, police used pepper spray and horses to control crowds outside a trump event. and trump was forced to cancel a rally in chicago last friday after too many protesters turned up. the latest polls on the democratic side indicate hillary clinton leading bernie sanders in all five of tomorrow's voting states. their closest bat is in illinois where clinton leads 51% to 45%. illinois being where she's from. bernie sanders is taking criticism from donald trump and dishing some out too as abc's mary bruce reports. >> reporter: bernie sanders is crying foul as donald trump

the chaos at his rallies. rarely. and i'm afraid on this occasion he's lying again. >> reporter: and he's pointing the finger back at trump. >> this is a man who is dividing up this country in very serious bapz >> reporter: donald trump is now threatening to send his supporters here to bernie sanders' rallies in an act of retaliation. a handful showed up in st. lewis with at this sanders event. with this playful dig at his backers. and in columbus, a different take. your message to trump supporters who show up here? feel the bern. >> reporter: as they battle it out in five key states ahead of tuesday's primaries. visiting a church in cleveland, hillary clinton made her final pitch and took a jab at sanders. >> it's not enough if you want be president of our country to tell people what you're against. >> reporter: clinton hoping to avoid a repeat of last tuesday's loss in michigan by sweeping all five states. bernie sanders has been spending a lot of time here in ohio where he says he feels the momentum heading into tuesday.

lead. ohio. a young maryland police officer is dead this morning in what officials say was an unprovoked attack. jacai colson was shot outside a prince georges county police station about ten miles east of washington, d.c. the suspected shooter was then police. his brother was arrested, as well. the motive for the shooting is still unknown. the officer would have turned 29 this week. >> deadly terror attacks in turkey and the ivory coast. alex marquardt has details on the two attacks and who was left behind. >> reporter: a bloody sunday on two continents. in turkey's capital, emergency services responding after an explosion ripped through an area next to a bus stop and government buildings. debris and bombed-out cars. the dead and wounded carried away. more than 30 people killed according to the authorities. the u.s. state department had

it was the fourth to hit turkey in just six months, which had been blamed on turkey's two main enemies, the kurds and isis. armed attackers stormed a beach popular with tourists in the ivory coast. as they opened fire, witnesses said they shouted allahu akbar, god a great. security forces quickly surrounded the area. evacuating the wounded to safety. the government said 16 people were killed, in addition to six attackers who were believed to be from the al qaeda affiliate in africa, after they claimed responsibility. it's the third time they've struck in the past four months. after carrying out deadly attacks on hotels in two nearby countries, mali and burkina faso. the frequency of the global terror attacks is growing. whether it's turkey, west africa, or here in europe, intelligence officials say the question about the next attack is not if but when.

>> in france, investigators are calling for medical confidentiality to be relaxed when it comes to the mental health of pilots nearly one year after a co-pilot who was believed to have deliberately crashed germanwings into a mountain in the french alps killing 150 people on board. investigators say he had been urged by a doctor to get psychiatric help but his employer was never informed. federal disaster aid will soon be available to portions of louisiana. thousands of homes in the shreveport area have been flooded and more may be damaged rise. the only thing moving along these zreets are treats are boats. abc's phillip mena is there. >> reporter: communities across the south working to hold back the swollen rivers. in this covington, louisiana, rescued by boat this weekend returning home to see the damage. >> it didn't matter that my house was destroyed as long as my family was safe and sound. >> reporter: their home was

but right down the street, this house was one of nearly 5,000 across louisiana damaged by flooding. >> our house was surrounded. by the time we got out, the front and the back met, and we knew it was over. the house. >> reporter: roadways in this community underwater. debris, even a flaming propane tank, floating among the submerged homes. and a new worry, dangerous mold. the damaged baseboards and saturated drywall coming out. incredibly, this is the same neighborhood where those water rescues took place. obviously the skies have cleared up here, but the severe weather is on the move just north of here. many are bracing for dangerous storms. phillip menna, abc news, could beington, louisiana. >> all right. a long road ahead for those folks. things are drying out in louisiana but downpours move into the mid south and northeast. heavy rain from northern california to the northwest. with mountain snow.

>> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." >> good monday morning, fran. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm reena ninan. >> we'll get started with politics. i've got to say i'm upset the candidates aren't discussing the quintessential issue of our time and by time i mean daylight saving time and how painful it has been to get used to that. >> i was very excited today. we have a different take on there. i think we should never fall back but only spring forward. >> let's keep it that way. george washington first thought it was a joke when he proposed. >> i didn't know that. anyway, they're discussing a lot of other things. and what promises really to be a raucous couple of days in the race for the president. the candidates have one more day, of course to, make their case before voting in five states. >> both parties hold primaries tomorrow and the delegate rich states of florida, north carolina, ohio, illinois and missouri. the one thing uniting the

states, trump's gop rivals are cutting him no slack. >> if donald trump is the nominee, hillary clinton is in all likelihood the next president. >> i hope he's going to change his rhetoric. >> reporter: still polls say donald trump will likely be the biggest winner tuesday's voting. only home state governor john kasich of ohio leads him. hillary clinton hopes for a sweep tuesday leading bernie sanders in all five states. their closest fight in illinois where she leads 51% to 45%. and one of the more peculiar scenes on the campaign trail yesterday came when a protester interrupted marco rubio at an event in florida while rubio was speaking, a man in the crowd claimed rubio was trying to steal his girlfriend. man was let out by police. rubio equipped about hecklers not being beat up at his events a dig at what's been happening at donald trump's rallies. >> in ohio today, john kasich

a source says romney's participation is not an endorsement of kasich. it's a way to help kasich defeat donald trump tomorrow. we'll get much more insight from our powerhouse political team discussing the key state of ohio. that's later in this half hour. first we want to move to the other major story that we're following. the fatal ambush attack on a suburban d.c. police officer. investigators say it happened during an unprovoked attack on a prince georges county maryland police station. the suspected shooter was wounded and is in custody. the dead officer jacai colson had, been a police officer for four years and would have turned 29 next week. >> the community needs to know that one of your defenders has been lost. >> jacai was important to his family. he's important 0 in this entire community. we have another mother tonight who is without her son. >> now, officials say the police

before he opened fire. he's currently in the hospital with nonlife-threatening wounds. his brother was also breasted. now to a frightening accident saturday in central florida at a shooting range which resulted in six people shot by a single bullet. investigate remembers say it happened while a 21-year-old man was load ago and teak shotgun when he accidentally fired the gun. bullet hit a concrete floor, then ricocheted hitting two adults and four children. all the injuries were minor. no one has been charged. the president of turkey is promising to bring terrorism to its knees following a deadly attack in the capital of ankara. at least 34 people died in a car bombing yesterday, two of the dead are believed to be the bombers. police suspect that kurdish militants carried out the attack which hit the main blld of the city. a similar bombing three weeks ago killed 29 people. the north african branch of al qaeda is claiming responsibility for a deadly attack on a beach

14 civilians, two special forces and six assailants were killed when the gunman stormed the beach. witnesses describe a horrible scene as a lazy weekend afternoon was suddenly shattered by gunfire. >> investigators looking into last year's germanwings crash are calling for medical confidentiality to be relaxed for doctors treating pilots pushing for new measures to keep pilots from hiding mental health issues unknown to his employer, the co-pilot andreas lubitz was urged to get psychiatric help weeks before he's believed to have deliberately slammed the plane into a mountain in the french alps last year. all 150 people on board were killed. new developments in the battle against zika. a company wants to deploy a genetically modified mosquito toe stop transition. the proposal is meeting with resistance here in the u.s.
