concord family and their five- year-old daughter. >> it's a marijuana-based seizure drug. after a successful trial this week the drug company is now fighting to get fda approval. this afternoon newschannel5's megan hickey spoke to mom and daughter. how does this fit into the medical marijuana movement here in ohio? >> reporter: many people, including concord mom christina, see the successful trial as proof of the benefits of medical marijuana, and she says the clock is ticking for her daughter paige. >> paigey, your turn. >> reporter: five-year-old paige had a good day today. a good day means she had 10 seizures at pre school. on a bad day, she can have more than 100. >> i don't know when the next seizure is going to be that could cause brain damage, further brain damage, for that

>> reporter: paige has a severe seizure condition that caused her to after stroke when she was 19 months old. >> so she takes multiple doses of these on a daily basis, three times a day, and these are her sleep meds. >> reporter: right now she takes a cocktail of fda- approved medications. >> this is probably about four days, maybe four or five days. >> reporter: they still can't stop the daily paralyzing seizures. but news this week about a successful trial of a marijuana- based seizure drug gave paige's family new home. doctors tell me there are benefits to explore. >> there are components of marijuana that can be used to treat certain conditions. >> reporter: but paige's mom christina knows it could be a long road to fda approval. and she says paige doesn't have time to wait. right now she's advocating for the ohio ballot initiative, legislative action, anything to try to help her daughter.

we're willing to take. >> reporter: the marijuana seizure drug has at least three more trials scheduled for this year. in its first trial it reduced seizures by 40%. live in cleveland, megan hickey, newschannel5. the parade may be over but celebrations for st. patrick's day still well underway as crews work to finish cleaning up the city after the parade, police still out in force to ensure everyone is celebrating safely. police say the parade went off without any major incidents or arrests. but the night is still young, and officers are hoping to keep brawls to a minimum. our local breweries also see a big up tick in the days around st. patrick's day. there are 110 craft brewers in ohio alone. most started off as a tiny hobby that just continued to grow. >> what you are really seeing that's interesting right now is

town, no matter what little blip on the map it is, now has a brewery. some of the best beer in ohio is come vowght really small towns. i don't think we're near the saturation point yet. as for where ohio stands in the craft beer industry, we're ranked fourth in production, and stainls past year have grown 17%. let's check in with chief meteorologist mark johnson with an update on our weather. >> a lot going on around northern ohio and the great lakes. we have this to blame. an upper level low and a surface low kind of sitting and pretty strong. what's it doing to us now? stirring up a few isolated rain showers. they will be with us for the next couple of hours, and, of course, stirring up some pretty good wind gusts. we have seen them calm down just a bit. still blustery in cleveland p. in ashtabula. last hour we had several gusts above 40. gradually taming down those

police say he never pointed the gun at anyone in the polling site at the school. he was fired by the board of elections shortly after the election. 12 people in cuyahoga county have died in the past week alone as a result of an on the part i -- opioid overdose. chris, nothing to cheer about here. a youth cheerleading group treasurer is facing felony charges accused of stealing more than peds 13,000 from the group. shannon lewis was arrested after police say she tooct over a three-month period. police say she used that money to pay off her own bills and buy personal items. >> there were two checks to herself, and there were also -- most of the charges were made

to the association that she used for perm expenses. >> lewis is scheduled to in a court early next month. more and more people are telling us their bill from the cleveland division of water are wrong. tonight a boston heights woman told us she isn't even hooked into cleveland water lines but she's getting build. investigator jonathan walsh uncovers new details at 6:00. >> reporter: there's a lot of aggressive development in the botch heights area but one woman tells me the water department billing is getting ahead of the building itself. >> i feel like where do i turn? because i'm not getting satisfaction from them. >> reporter: 76-year-old mary from boston heights told me she feels like she's getting nowhere with the cleveland division of water because she's called dozens of times and no answers. >> how cain be getting a water bill when i still have my well and no pipes down to the house or anything? >> reporter: that's right. she has received six bills for $27 each for the two homes she owns.

all of the cuyahoga precincts, o'malley won the race by 20,000 votes. it's very clear. one city delivered the defeat the mcginty. incumbent tim mcginty and his office bragged about prosecuting cases from a backlog of untested rape kits and demolishing abandoned homes. >> we're getting more than we can hafnlt. >> reporter: but analysts we talked to say lost the public's confidence with his handling of high-profile officer-involved shootings in cleveland. >> as far as they were concerned, mcginty did wrong and he was punished at the moss. >> reporter: we have reviewed numbers and we learned michael mall lee won -- michael o'malley won most of the suburbs, including maple heights. mcginty did win bay village, westlake, rocky river, north openly sterksd and strongsville.

hour, a woman is dead after police say someone broke into a tuscarawas home in the middle of the night. >> chris, it happened on cougar drive. home >> reporter: deputies are still on scene. they're planning on stepping up patrols. very few details but here's what we know. around 4:00 this morning a 17- year-old boy called 911 saying he heard screams from the bedroom next to hit. he found a man on top of his dad's girlfriend. the boy was able to escape, and when police got here, they found 39-year-old darlene rerkz nner stabbed to death. an autopsy is planned in stark county tomorrow. there is no sign right now of that suspect. police say there was no murder weapon found on the scene. again, they are stepping up patrols. a very vague description of that suspect available at this point.
