>> they performed cpr and used a defibrillator. bob jones is live. paramedics told you access to an aed made all the difference. >> reporter: it certainly looks like the track athletes, coaches, and a trainer all worked together as team to save the life of a teenager in need. he collapsed last friday on this track, and his coach quickly realized appear aed was needed. >> 911 what is the essence of your emergency? >> i'm at reveer high school at the stadium. down. he's not responding. >> reporter: police identified the student athlete as caleb perkins, a junior, who is always wide receiver on the football team. >> is he breathing? >> he's breathing about every five or six second. >> the paramedic told me before he arrived on the scene a track coach took control of the emergency and started cpr.

athletic train tore get the aed and to activate the 911. >> so it looks like they're breathing? >> they're doing cpr. >> the athletic trainer pickly used a portable defibrillator to shock the boy's heart. the decision to use the aed made all the difference. >> did it save the kid's life? >> i would say definitely between the whole system on a whole, saved the kid's life. >> paramedics explained they used one more shock, then got a pulse. >> thank god. that's exactly what they're there for. >> reporter: retired cardiologist terry gordon led the charge to get aed in every summit county school. >> every manipulate that goes by, their chance of survival drops bi10% fever manipulate. >> reporter: while aeds are not mandatory at schools dr. gordon believes what happened here shows why they should be.

that the young man makes a complete recovery. >> reporter: and police told know teen was taken to akron children's hospital and transferred to the main campus in downtown cleveland where he is conscious tonight and showing signs of improvement, according to police. live in bath township, bob jones, newschannel5. tonight a family is in mourning. a timkin steel employee died on the job. 32-year-old kenny ray junior was found unresponsive yesterday. at the time, he was inspecting fair extinguishers. initial findings show he died of exposure to nitrogen. investigator sarah buduson, you learned this company actually has a history of severe safety problems. >> reporter: danita, we know nitrogen exposure is suspected

these records show a similar incident happened last year. even more troubling, it is just one of several serious safety problems. osha told us the timken steel corporation is among the worst of the worst. they're so bad, spokesperson scott allen says it's now in what's known as the severe violateddor enforcement program. a program for employers who refuse to fix serious safety violations. >> there's no reason for a worker to go to work and then not be able to come home in the evening, or lose a finger, or get electrocuted or something like that. >> osha safety records reveal just how dang ruts can be to work for timken steel. take a look at what we discovered. this list shows osha inspectors have conducted 13 separate investigations in just the last two years. they found more than 40

many stemming from serious incidents. last august, a fall where a worker dropped more than 40 feet from a crane. last may, 1,000 pounds of equipment fell on top of another worker. that same month another serious violation. an employee was exposed to nitrogen. but unlike kenny ray junior, he survived. >> it's simply unacceptable that this company continues to not protect their workers from workplace hazards. this has to be corrected immediately. >> reporter: timken steel is currently disputing many of the violations and says safety is its highest priority. by the way, while timken steel disputes osha's claims, the company doesn't have to fix any of the alleged problems. on your side, investigator sarah buduson, newschannel5. time now for a check on the weather. it may be the first full day of prescription but it doesn't feel like it. >> not at all.

found inside of a garage on folk avenue around 7:00 this morning. the victim has not yet been identified, and the medical examiner hasn't determined a cause of death. but police are investigating it as a homicide. lake county authorities say they have broken up a prescription drug ring led by one woman. you might not believe the reason she told police she was selling the drug. paul kiska has more from mentor. >> reporter: well, she told police she had good intentions for her bad and illegal behavior. police say a 22-year-old mentor medical assistant was selling thousands of painkillers. police say she stole 156 prescription forms from the heart doctors where she was working. police told me she forged prescriptions to buy the

than two dozen pharmacies. the narcotics unit told me she sold 9,000 of the pills for at least $15 each to anyone wanting to buy. >> anyone in law enforcement will tell that you the heroin epidemic that we're in the midst of now is because of the initial abuse of prescription drugs. everyone that i've talked to that abuses heroin has first abused prescription painkillers. >> reporter: she faces numerous felony charges tonight. she is being held in the lake county jail on $100,000 bond. inmentor, paul kiska, newschannel5. we are learning that the atm stolen from a rite aid store this morning has been found. police say they are still looking for two men seen driving away with the machine. just after 5:30 this morning. the robbers drove the van into the wall of the store and swiped the atm.

with no money inside behind an abandoned building. as for the van, they say that was reported stolen last night. a man police have been searching for in connection with a valentine's day murder has been arrested. antoine bennett has been charged with murder in the death of gabriel i will oassments police say late valentine's day night a fight broke out at a party and bennett shot rios in the chest. bennett is held on $1 million bond. the brunswick community is coming together again to help those families who have been left homeless following a huge apartment fire earlier this month. and right now the paninis restaurant is donating funds. >> reporter: it is a packed house. hat been all day long. every single drink, every

the doors opened at 11:00 this morning. they will close at midnight. everything in between will be donated to families who need it. 10% of the profits are going to families misplaced by the massive fire earlier this month. the fire tore through two brunswick apartment buildings. a young girl died and many families lost everything they owned. paninis employees told me the huge turnout is a testament to the brunswick community. one of the fire victims met be at the restaurant. she says this support means everything. >> reporter: what does this money mean to families like yours? >> a new start. security. it's a lot. it's a blessing. >> reporter: it's probably dinnertime four, but eve got plenty of time to get involved. panini's is open until midnight. in brunswick, tara molina,

. democracy 2016. our governor is in washington, d.c. he just wrapped up speaking is at the american- israel public affairs committee meeting. he and the other candidates were in our nation's capitol talking about the united states and its relations with israel. the group is made up of advocates that represent pro- israeli policy. and if all goes as scheduled four months from tonight a republican candidate will take the floor at the q. the republican national convention begins july 18th and runs through the 21st. as the event approaches the talk increases there may be a contested convention because no candidate will get enough delegates to win on the first ballot. rnc leadership admitted this weekend they are preparing for the possibility even though donald trump insists he will have the numbers. and today was the last day forest rawpts and bars to take advantage of extended hours during the convention. owners could apply for a permit

for the week of the convention only. any business in cuyahoga or the surrounding counties could apply. we're starting to learn more about the changes that could be coming to the rta. let me tell you, there are many riders who are not happy about them. the transit agency held its first public hearing today. before it began, some riders gathered b front of the agency headquarters to voice concerns over them. as it stands the proposal could bring an increase of 25 cents for bus and train fares and $1.25 for para transit fares. >> i would to make a stand for rta. please do not take the cedar avenue bus. we need it. >> we're in the on different sides of this issue. we're on the same side. >> our job is to take the money we get and provide as much high quality service as possible.
