after days in the dark power is slowly coming back on for most people in northeast ohio. for those with special needs life without electricity is a lot more difficult than you would expect. >> plus, a festival braving the rain for. a preview of the annual feast of the assumption here in little italy. >> we start with a live look from our tower cam at downtown cleveland. you can see those clouds up ahead. gray skies. rain could be on the way once again. welcome to this weekend edition of "good morning cleveland," sunday edition. i'm nick foley along side meteorologist janessa webb to tell us all about the weather because we saw a lot of rain yesterday as you predicted later in the afternoon. looks like we're going to have a little more today.

9:00 we're looking forward to another rain. this is tropical moisture continuing to feed across northeast ohio. so you're seeing the gray skies, lingering through sunday afternoon. we have slight changes in the forecast. looks like more moisture even for your monday and heavy-duty rain for tuesday afternoon. so let's finish up the weekend on the wet side, along with temperatures. they are cooling off just a few cleveland. ashland to medina lower to mid- 70s. looking at highs today lower 80s across the board. dew points are still up, also as the front is starting to track across northeast ohio. so tracking rain this morning for twinsburg just moving north and east out of the hudson area, so stark county already this morning, getting hit with a little bit of rain, you can

down from euclid to lake county. these are heavy downpours, no lightning associated with those cells but even ashtabula to connoat they are slow moving systems, moving east 5 do 10 -- 5 to 10 miles per hour but cloudy skies and rain linger across the area. it's already starting to feed in slowly but surely, i know yesterday afternoon we were waiting quite a while be slow-moving cells here but mansfield, ashland, richland county, you are up next to see, again widespread rain. we begin with chaos overnight in milwaukee. protests breaking out there after police shot and killed a 23-year-old black man after midnight. a protest then got out of hand with fires breaking out at several businesses. police say the man was killed, fled from officers during a

it's not immediately clear if he pointed it at officers. as news of his death spread so did protests with more than 100 people gathering at the scene. >> you all saw the crowd then went over to the gas station and set the gas station afire. i don't know how many individuals were involved in that. of course that is going to be part of the investigation as well. >> three people were arrested during the protests. closer to home -- there are still a turned back on after storms rolled through last week. power just returned in some parts of cleveland last night but for one resident it was a long wait in the dark. gale ward needs power for her electric wheelchair. without it she's often stranded. >> i said this can't happen because i'm in this chair. the refrigerator is off. everything is off. >> her power is back on now but there are still some areas

firstenergy says its workers are pulling 16-hour shifts to make sure the power is returned to everyone. here's a look at the current outage numbers from firstenergy now, just under 700 people are without power in cuyahoga county. in summit county just 30 customers left in the dark. everywhere else only a few isolated outages are reported. it's a yearly tradition in cleveland. scheduled to continue today. the feast of the assumption in little italy rolling on with thousands more expected to attend. this is event. that is where we find our own meg shaw this morning. what is the latest plan for today? >> reporter: as we heard we have a lot of rain in the forecast and clearly some humidity in the air but that is not going to stop thousands of people from making their way here to little italy for the annual feast of the assumption festival. this marks the -- is the four-

welcome back. time now 8:15. a dangerous situation remains in the south this morning. at least three people are dead and thousands more requiring rescues in louisiana. the state's governor has issued a state of emergency floodwaters continue to rise. mary maloney reports. >> everybody's saying this is the worst they've ever seen. >> reporter: days of relentless downpours forced residents to take what belongings they could and travel through waist-high waters to stable ground. >> there are so many elderly people here and people who can't afford to replace their things. it's like, the water is literally to your waist. that means everything in their houses is destroyed.

from their cars and homes. help even came from complete strangers. >> i don't live here, i pulled over, i saw the kids, i saw some elderly and i was like -- we needed to help. so me and my fiancee got out, pulled over and came to help. >> reporter: after declaring a state of emergency the louisiana governor asked residents to take all necessary precautions. >> asking everyone to simply evacuate if you're supposed to do that. if you are being advised to do that, stay off the don't have to, and if you're going to be on the road be extremely cautious. >> reporter: the families that already evacuated now forced to tough it out in temporary shelters. >> we woke up and water was from the bed and everywhere. so we couldn't even get a chance to get nothing, pack nothing. we had to call the fire department to get us. in new york city, police

mosque. the imam and his friend were just wrapping up afternoon prayers yesterday in queens when they were approached from behind and shot. police haven't determined a motive but members of the mosque fear this was a hate crime. more than 100 people gathered at a vigil last night to call for justice. this morning police still trying to figure out what happened at a north carolina mall. the incident was first reported as a shooting with several shoppers claiming they heard gunfire. police have not found any shell casings. eight people taken to the hospital after they were hurt trying to get out of the mall as soon as possible. news around ohio, five deputies suspend pended from the franklin county sheriff's office after a trainee was injured. his head gear came off while he was playing the role of attacker but the others continued to hit him. he had to be treated for cuts and bruises to his face. the suspensions rain from three to 30 days. ohio man wanted for murder

different crime. 38-year-old jesse hanes is accused of shooting and killing a new mexico police officer during a traffic stop friday. he was traveling with 36-year- old james nelson at the time. the two were wanted here in ohio for killing a chillicothe man back in july. police arrested the men yesterday after a dramatic case while the department mourns the loss of one of their own. officers now vow to bring the killer to justice. >> we lost one of our he was one -- the criminals have come into our town, came out and terrorized the communities out here. we will pursue to make sure that -- that we take them through and not allow the folks to get away. >> hanes is charged with the murder of the officer there as

to a heartbreaking story in ohio -- a police officer commended this morning for helping a little boy found wandering on the streets of downtown franklin. officer steve dunham, notice the 7-year-old trying to sell his stuffed animal in front of a drug store to get money to eat. the boy said he had not eaten in days so the officer took him to subway for a meal and brought him back to the police department. the chief says his guy gave the boy comfort and safety he didn't have at own kids and that's exactly what law enforcement does in situations like this, is how we would want someone to treat our kids. >> after the investigation police found the boy and his four brothers were living in squalor. their parents now have been charged with 10 counts of child endangerment, kids now staying with other family members. more evacuation orders are being issued in california. many of them in the same area that was evacuated last year because of a destructive fire.

burned. firefighters likely get nothing help from the weather as well. parts of california expecting temperatures up to 108 degrees in the near future. we've seen these areas lots of times get affected by wildfires in the summer and the really dry months. this is nothing new but certainly not something you want to see either. we're going to be affected by some weather now. there's no relief on the way for -- >> for those areas >> new orleans, louisiana just getting it. >> still expecting more moisture there as well. you can't take any more down there. >> no. the low continues to spin out that way. that is the moisture that is tracking north across northeast ohio. so just waking up to gray skies, going to be kind of a gloomy day across northeast ohio. and unfortunately we were saying yesterday today was probably going to be the last day. we had a little change in the

tuesday more rain in the forecast. i know we're still picking up the pieces from storms earlier this week. so we're going to lose a little bit of humidity today as a cold front is making its way across northeast ohio. but still pretty uncomfortable. temperatures across the board this morning currently 74 degrees. lake county dealing with a little bit of rain. moisture starting to sag in to richland county to medina area. currently at 73 degrees. up as the front is tracking in from the west right now. at an oppressive state you're definitely feeling like you're in a swimming pool or a tight turtleneck. we're continuing to track a little moisture already affecting lake county to ashtabula. no lightning in these cells and they are very slow-going moving north and east but you can see the bulk of this moisture starting to track in

-- with a little bit of lightning as temperatures are pretty high this morning. this is that tropical moisture that i continue to talk about. it's lifting to the north and this will feed in for monday, even tuesday afternoon. so temperatures across the board, still pretty toasty throughout your afternoon with humidity, a warm front that is going to start to track in here as we head into the next 36 hours. futurecast shows the bulk of that moisture today is inland corridor to stark county. summit county, southern portions, you can see a few isolated raindrops but even for lakeshore communities it will be on the light side, the bulk of this moisture is inland thought your afternoon. by the 3:00 hour finally getting a little bit of relief. even for your evening i do want to go with mostly cloudy with just a few scattered showers. could see a little bit of

outages reported. happening now -- a yearly tradition is underway, the 118th annual feast of the assumption in little italy continues this afternoon. that is where we find our meg shaw this morning. meg, i'm starting to smell that italian food through the screen there, are you? >> reporter: anywhere there's food you know i'm there already. the italian bakery across the i see people going in and out. after my hit i think i will head there. pretty soon a lot of vendors will be here all morning long preparing for the crowds of people to come here for the annual feast. each year this event brings in nearly 30,000 people, a celebration, four-day celebration is a -- celebration of the death of virgin mary. so if you plan to brave the rain and humidity today you better come hungry because

very long. what is going to last a little longer than we first expected is this weather and moisture because we thought it might be out by the end of today. >> it's going to stick around, we're dealing with tropical moisture, another warm front going to move across the area but right now you're still sitting in dew points that are in the 70s so still very sticky across northeast ohio. many people probably sleeping in this morning. kind of gray skies as we track cold front is to our north. it hasn't crouched over northeast ohio just yet, that is why we're seeing dew points still at an oppressive state. you're going to have that ac cranking all day long across the area. now what we're dealing with is a cold front mixing in with the tropical moisture that is just feeding into louisiana right now. this system is affecting six

right now let's track these storms that we're currently seeing a little bit of moisture. no lightning associated with this for lake county. mentor you're probably noticing the wet pavement from ashtabula, just moving out of geneva on the lake. this is starting to cross over to erie, pennsylvania, so we're going to get a little bit of relief in the next five to 10 minutes but look at the moisture, that continues to feed in with temperatures this warm we could see a few thunderstorm activity, as daytime highs are still in the lower 80s this afternoon. look at this moisture though, it stacks inland locations, on the light side for lakeshore communities. the darker greens, yellow, oranges, that is embedded thunder. the great news is it sweeps out of here fairly quickly by 1:00. it's more on the scattered side across the board. throughout your afternoon the clouds will continue to stick

lower 80s. throughout the 8:00 hour we'll continue to track a few scattered showers from erie, huron county and the flood watch is still in effect until 8:00 p.m. so we're definitely not in the clear just yet. we'll also continue to see moisture, i do think that flood watch will be extended probably until tuesday afternoon. so northeast ohio today, greater cleveland, 83 as the tonight the humidity goes down just a notch or two. you still are not going to be able to open up that window and get that nice breathable air. we won't see that until about wednesday afternoon. storms will continue to be likely for tuesday as more heavy rain tracks in here. you see a few isolated raindrops for wednesday before things dry out or your late week -- for your late week. a pennsylvania roller coaster outside of pittsburgh

fourth major amusement park accident in the country in less than a week. this time a 3-year-old boy falling from the ride. more questions now coming about how the parks are regulated. the latest incident following the death of a 10-year-old boy at a kansas water park on what was billed as the the world tallest wall slide. 4,000 children are taken to hospitals every year because of amusement park injuries, according to a new study. >> children are not well served by the law as it now reads. we have not done enough to make rides safe. we should do more. amusement parks don't want regulation because it costs money. >> the international association of amusement parks said states are best equipped to regulate the amusement park industry.

related to what your habits were as a kid? if so there's a coup group that may not be doing enough to cut their risk. with more here's senior medical contributor dr. timothy johnson. >> reporter: physical activity outdoors, healthy balanced meals, what we picture for our kids and also the formula for a healthy heart later in life. but today a new report from the american heart association says far too few children in fact kids' behavior even worse than we thought. some sobers stats. more than half of kids fail to get the 60 minutes of recommended daily physical activity. among teens it's even worse, 5% to 10% hitting that minimum. more than nine u.s. children and teens have an unhealthy diet. i'll say that again. more than nine in 10.

janessa has another final look at weather. we hoped it would be the end of the moisture we were seeing but no, we're hanging on a couple more days? >> right. extended to monday and tuesday, heavy rain but we're going to get through this today. this afternoon. 83 degrees this front hasn't crossed over yet. we won't see that until late this evening. so humidity is still in place. you're really not going to see the difference in humidity levels until wednesday so unfortunately we are tracking that warmer air in place. by next mid-week, wednesday, thursday, friday afternoon we start to dry out again but you can see the rise in temperatures. we have another front that is
