is so devastating to the environment. >> neighbors outraged and fearful after learning a dangerous chemical will be sprayed right behind their home. first we have breaking news now at 5:00. a construction worker killed in avon after getting hit by a dump truck. that area was shutdown after the afternoon. police say the worker was directing the dump truck as it backed up through the construction zone and was then hit. the investigation is on going. we will keep you posted as we learn new details tonight we have learned the truck driver who set off the chain reaction is facing charges. >> we spent today asking questions about the driver and that stretch of highway where all of this took place. christen is live on 5 near the scene. christen, what have you learned?

works for an out of state trucking company that just started up. this pile up happened in a heavy construction zone not far from where we are at right here. it is a zone that poses a lot of questions and we are trying to get answers. >> i just witnessed an accident. i am on i-80. >> in a split second a family trip turned into a life ending moment. 14-year-old madison creagan of new york kild turnpike. her brother seriously injured. this is the remnants of their ford f-150 truck. >> it was just a bad situation with all the weekend traffic heading home. >> state highway patrol tells us this man slammed his semi-truck into the f-150 which in turn caused this eye opening chain reaction. this car, this car, this car all damaged. in total 10 vehicles involved.

crashes or fatalities. >> we reached out to the trucking company today but did not receive a response. we also locked into the driver and whether he has a criminal background. so far we did not find anything. as for the ohio turnpike they declined our request for an interview but we are still waiting for a written response about that construction zone. how long it has been active, whether there are crews working regularly there and whether there have problems. back to you. new developments now on the brutal attack of a woman found in a field at the cuyahoga valley national park. today police announced they had arrested dezay ely and charged him with attempted murder. joggers found that woman beaten and shot last month. the documents released today were full of details about how the attack went down. we have an update from the fbi

at 6:00. also tonight police need your help tracking down this man. a man drove up, demanded money and then shot him. >> they sure are scary. police tell me the shooter didn't know the victim, robert gnizak. this could have been anyone you can see behind me the restaurant is still open today. this is right past the area where he was shot and killed. robert's friends told me he was helping a friend with a sunday paper route stopped at taco bell before heading out. he could have never prepared for what happened. a man ran up to the car, took what he could.

controversy surrounding a local marsh. a plan to get rid of the grass has neighbors saying not so fast. that is because they say it involves spraying weed near their homes. >> the museum takes care of over seeing the marsh. they want to take out all of this tall grass you see here. neighbors who live nearby don't like the way they are going about it. the cleveland museum of natural history manages the metro marsh. this marsh is filled with it.

on. wildlife officials are using these tractors to spray the marsh. -- >> the air draft that takes scomplas pushes over to the houses. >> some people with that live around here don't want any of the weed killers sprayed by them or animals. >> the other problem is the marsh in the areas where they have done this procedure before has just been devastated. it has displaced wildlife. >> a spokesperson told me the chemical is safe. it is a watered down weed killer and epa approved. >> it was devastating to me because the main reason i moved into this little neighborhood was because of the marsh.

the fbi today announced the arrest of man wanted for shooting a teenager in cuyahoga valley national

woman in the head several times last month. she was later found and taken to the hospital. a truck driver from georgia is facing charges in connection with a deadly crash on the ohio turnpike. investigators say 40 -year-old carter's tractor trailer slammed into nine other vehicles yesterday afternoon. a 14-year-old girl died in the collision. seven other people were injured. a botched robbe bell robbery in lorain is being blamed for the death of a local man. 49-year-old robert gnizak was killed after a suspect tried to rob him. witnesses say the killer fled on foot. right now police have a vague description of the suspect. nip with information is asked to call police. and happening now a concern for all local veterans. every september groups come together to help the men and

there may not be enough because of a warehouse fire destroyed many donations. bob, you spoke with the veterans hoping for more help from the community. >> the event which takes place at a vfw post here in akron is scheduled for september 13th. organizers told me today there is a lot of veterans. for 11 years the counsel has hosted the stand down event about 400 veterans wait in line to receive items to help them prepare for the winter. >> we try to give out boots and coats and all sorts of other needy things they may need. >> dale is a navy veteran who served in vietnam. he knows the importance of helping the men and women that served. >> there is a lot of people out there who are needy.

there is new information for the first anytime two years on the nearly 300 girls kidnapped from their cool in nigeria. today the mother of one of those girls is demanding [ indiscernible ] in exchange for bringing those girls home. at least 218 remain missing after some escaped on their own. they claimed others died in military air strikes. over the weekend a video was released showing dozens of the girls still alive begging to be free heavy rains are leaving
