. good afternoon, everybody. this is leon bibb. indeed, the broadcast begins with breaking news. person is dead after a robbery turned into a shooting in ashtabula county this morning and that is where te, a molina is live. what do we know, tera? >> reporter: leon, at one time, the sheriff described the situation as a hatfield-mccoy type of altercation. what we know right now is that this investigation was for some kind of robbery that resulted in an altercation and following a crash.

killed. we just talked to the special agent in charge. a robbery happened in the area in the wee hours of the morning. on his way home, a deputy stopped here where he believes the robbery suspects may be. when he got here, he called for backup. the car sped off and hit the telephone pole. you can see in the video, four deputies fired weapons and a man considered a suspect was shot and killed. the woman was with him was not. none of the four sheriff's deputies were injured and all four of them now, are on administrative leave. again, the shooting victim is considered a suspect and that is all we know right now. dci is here handling the investigation and the coroner is also here. now, again, we don't know if the suspect fired shots. we just know that the deputies fired shots and the woman who was with him in the car is considered a witness. she's currently at the ashtabula county sheriff's office. we'll continue to stay here and

live in ashtabula, tera molina, newschannel 5. >> many thanks, te, a. we'll look for your -- tera. we'll look for your reports later in the day. an alliance this morning. the flames moved fast. it was a -- on fire was a popular feed supply business. the structure was almost destroyed as it moved through on east patterson street in alliance. and the main building did burn to the ground. the fire also caused a huge power outage in the area. and there was this morning. this one in streetsboro. the fire officials in that community said is that two dogs were killed in the counterfire at a streetsboro camp ground. firefighters were able to get a handle on the blaze quickly -- quickly and there were no injuries reported other than the two dogs killed. >> and menner police are searching for a group of thieves who could be connected to a large ring of smash-and- grab. this is the scene on munson road. men or the lake, police say.

store. once inside, thieves took the atm machine, got away in a second vehicle. the police say the van the thieves used from a smash was stolen from a nearby apartment complex. if i can help police solve the crime or men or the lake police solve the crime as to who did it, you asked to call the police on men or the lake. and new at the noon hour, cleveland schools are back in session, but the district teachers are threatening to strike in two weeks. they just gave the district their official notice this morning walk-out if a contract with teachers can't be reached. meg shaw of our staff, details the story. >> reporter: september 1st, 6:00 p.m. the time cleveland teachers plan to go on strike over contract negotiations. the union giving the official notice just this morning. calling the decision to strike uneasy. contract negotiations between the union and cms started november of last year. in a statement released, union president david kolky hopes the school district and mayor use

the issue. he said, quote, all throughout the process, ctu fought for a contract that is good for kids and fair for educators. we won't take a contract back to the membership that doesn't meet the standard. meanwhile, the school district calls the union decision unfortunate and said that they're making preparations to minimize the impact this has on the 39,000 students. in cleveland, meg shaw, newschannel 5. and let's go to tera blake right now. the sunshine is trying to cover. >> and this is one day i am glad not to see full-on sunshine. the more sunshine we see, the better chance of severe weather. the limited sunshine, limited severe weather and that is a good thing. the clouds are moving pretty fast for us in wooster. what a shot of those dark, low clouds in wayne county and some of us on the west side will see rainfall before eastsiders as we're awaiting a cold front and it's moving into eerie and huron counties.

and just advancing farther east in eerie and huron county and sandusky, you missed it. you will see another shot within the next half an hour or so and no thunderstorms yet and this is very light. the heaviest concentration is still just moving out of dayton and concord, you can see the increase to the west. the showers and thunderstorms not indicated here and heavy rainfall, yes, and no thunderstorm activities and so waiting until the day's heating and that timing a small craft advisory with the winds and hazards. it's not advised to make your way to the beach today and doesn't look like a beach day. in case it was in your plans, you can see dangerous rip currents and big waves. keep that in mind. and weather-wise, we have increased our slight risk a little farther west and this does include more of the area and keep this in mind for the afternoon and evening hours. the storm shield app and being
