them about the dangers of methane gas, vermin and limited air. >> no one should be down there without protective equipment on. >> neighbors say they've seen the kids running back and forth in the area and have noticed the manhole covers slightly ajar for months. workers returned to the site recently but say the food and toys are cleaned out and there's no sign of the boys. a couple stranded boaters are very lucky to be alive this morning. the pair were tryi to another when they got off track and ended up stranded on a deserted island. wednesday a ship noticed flashing lights from the island and notified the u.s. coast guard in gwam. days later a navy aircraft spotted the s.o.s. that the boaters spelled on the beach. they were rescued friday about a week after they originally went missing.

bathroom bill are celebrating a major victory. a federal judge is ruling that two students and employee at the university of north carolina must be allowed to use restrooms matching their gender identity. the law titled hb2 keeps transgender people from using bathrooms that don't match the gender on their birth certificate. they hope it's a sign of things to come as the larger case against the law heads to trial in november. >> it shows that hb2 is is a big thing so i think that is going to set a precedent for once it actually goes to court. >> the ruling will have little effect at unc as the university already refused to enforce hb2. elsewhere the state of north carolina is already seeing fallout from the law. the nba recently announced the all-star game is moving from charlotte to new orleans. a report shows mostly

on scene. the woman's condition is unknown at this time. we'll keep you updated. a 29-year-old north ridgeville man is in police custody this morning accused of shooting and killing 53-year- old deborah pearl after a crash. police don't think they knew each other and are investigating this as a possible case of road rage. they say the suspect ran a red light flipping his car and that is when he got out and started shooting. a neighbor saw the whole thing happen. shooting inside the car. then i heard her scream. at that moment when i looked back out real quick because i'm like, ok, i'm getting away from the window in case and i heard her scream and she was on the ground and he was standing over her shooting her some more. >> the suspect in this case is not being identified until he's charged tomorrow. for now he's in the solon jail. we're learning an arrest has been made in connection with a series of bb gun

police there are not releasing the suspect's name but plan to file charges tomorrow. we told you earlier this week about a number of car windows being shot out along noble road and police say some drivers reported their windows being smashed. while they were stopped at red lights. the entire fire department in summit county is closing for good. firefighters covering northfield and sagamore hills will lose their job next month. after sagamore hills decided to terminate an agreement with nortie new contract with macedonia. northfield center trustees followed suit after voters rejected issue 3 that would have continued to fund the department. the 28 staffers were given opportunities to apply for positions with macedonia. >> not easy for us because we worked so hard at giving service to our residents and we know that macedonia did the same. it's just that it's happening to us right now at this time. >> the chief says this really

ohio governor john kasich has been on the record advocating for small cities and towns to share services and save money. looking ahead -- tomorrow the teachers union and cleveland metropolitan school district will meet. their goal is to avoided a strike. the district ceo says he's confident tomorrow's meeting with the mediator will work out. he says there's too much at stake for schools, teachers, families and students. the teachers union issued a strike notice. if in contact is reached the strike will begin september 1st. >> this afternoon you may want to bring some ear plugs. thousands of motorcycles will be starting all at once. they are trying to beat a guinness world record. tickets $25 per motorcycle. walk-ins welcome as are nonriders. proceeds go to north coast community homes, they will attempt to beat the record 3:00 this afternoon. big unveiling in summit county today. akron public schools firestone litchfield community learning center officially opens. the public can walk around from 1:00 to 4:00.
