good morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm diane macedo. here are some of the top headlines thing on "world news now." hundreds of passengers evacuated from the los angeles airport following reports of shots fired. traffic around the airport was halted. incoming flights put on hold. police are saying chaos. >> so many people attended a vigil for the two mississippi nuns murdered in their home. police in mississippi say a suspect has con fezzed to the killing but gave no motive for the crime. and forecasters watching two depressions in the tropics. one headed toward alabama. the other may head toward the north carolina outerbacks.

dark clothing out here. and they got scared, i guess. i don't know. next thing i know they let me go. they department arrest me or anything like that. they explained to me crazy stuff happens in the airports. but then two or three minutes after they approached me, it was over. that was it. so no charges or nothing like that. they said i was cool. everything is clear. it was a >> police say no gunman. no shots fired. it was a big square for thousands of passengers who have to be rescreened. many others walked to nearby hotels. they're waiting out the night instead of in long lines, and flights have finally started taking off again. they're starting to clear it out. >> there will be a ripple effect in this country and other countries where lax flights go. >> a major airport.

it's now personal. the cousin of dwyane wade, a mother of four, gunned down while pushing her baby's stroller. >> for a lot of the country, there's a face attached to the victims of gun violence. many people are innocent bystanders being killed in the windy city. two brothers have been arrested for that shooting. >> reporter: an emotional plea from chicago's top cop after arresting brothers accused of gunng dwyane wade. >> she was another mother he who wanted her children to get a good education. >> reporter: a mother of four just finished registering her school for school friday. she was pushing her newborn baby in a stroller on chicago's south side when she was killed, hit by bullets meant for someone else.

pandemonium at the airport. it was all a false alarm. lapd saying there were some loud noises and it set off a cascade of events. right now obviously everybody has been given the all clear. the airport is nearly shut down. the infamous loop around lax which takes long to traverse is empty. it's an erie sitght. hundreds and hundreds of passengers they opened up terminal four where i am. there's a bit of a massive humanity coming in. the lines are hours long. tsa is screening people and counting everybody that goes into the terminal. it will be a long night for folks here. it was very scary for a few minutes when there really did

it sent these shock waves of panic throughout this very large airport. the third largest and busiest in the u.s. >> and we understand all the passengers need to be rescreened. what kind of a scene? it? >> it's a scene is what it is. i sent pictures out a few minutes ago. the lines are hours long for people to get rescreened. when you're dealing with thousands of passengers, it can be quite questions here. flights are delayed. some of them have been cancelled. people getting off planes. so it's a very chaotic scene, and it's going to cause these reverberations -- and the people are laughing at me as i'm standing here among them. it's going to cause pretty serious reverberations for

late last night or in the early morning hours this morning because of the scare. >> airport place halted all traffic to the terminals. no flights allowed to land. the los angeles police say it was just loud noises. matt gutman was at the airport as it unfolded. >> erie site to be at lax and see the loop completely empty. police shut it down. the pa system is alerting peop that officers are continuing to try to clear terminals after unconfirmed reports of that active shooter. the lapd telling us there is no active shooter. that it really is an unconfirmed report that sent lots of people scattering. they closed down a couple of terminals, and everywhere people huffing it to get where they're going even out of this airport. pretty chaotic and pretty scary for a few minutes.
