. it was a rough and living in the collinwood neighborhood of cleveland this morning. there were explosive sounds as the car went up in flames at the corner of whitcomb and kipling in northeast cleveland at east 152nd street. >> and the blaze, like blazed this morning. >> and that was trouble enough. then came a dangerous discovery found near the car that put residents on edge. >> and there was a gun. i touched it as i know i

have gotten the cops here. it was fully loaded with a .9- millimeter, i'm saying. >> this is leon bibb. it was a busy time for cleveland police. it was a burned-out car, burned so much so that it was unrecognizable. and a loaded gun found feet from the school. the mother without a car thinks she may have been targeted over a breakup. she counted her blessings this morning that she, her daughter, and her neighbors were not hurt. >> and it was -- entire house. i have residents under me who have two the girls. you think about nothing or nobody. two other vehicles in the car. that could have blazed all three and they would have been through. everyone in the house. >> as police investigate, cleveland officers are asking for help from the public. if you know anything which can help in this investigation, you're asked to call cleveland police. elsewhere in the news, it

crash. the police were chasing a stolen u-haul from strongsville into cleveland. the driver crashed at the intersection of lorain avenue and west 41st street and also involved was a strongsville police car. the cleveland ems transported one person to the hospital. this is the third time in over three weeks strongsville police have chased suspects from its jurisdiction into cleveland. brutally beaten and discriminated against. that is what a homeless cleveland is claiming. she was a victim of a violent crime. she claims that cmha police are biased. as joe paganakas details, a lawsuit is filed in federal court. >> because i am trans and i guess it's been a plan for them to do this for a very long time. >> reporter: 22-year-old kay la jane said she was a victim of a vicious beating on the seventh floor of the west boulevard cmh apartments in june.

because she is a transgender woman. >> between 7 and 9 people attacked me, they kicked and punched and bit me. >> reporter: kayla had to be hospitalized and filed this lawsuit in u.s. district court. >> the suit is about the vicious beating and discrimination against a transgender in the cmha housing. >> reporter: the lawsuit claims that cmha police mishandled an investigation, calling it a hate crime and later in this police report concluding it was kayla who was started a fight. this confirmed by residents who didn't want to be identified. >> he was wrong. he was drunk and he came in here wanting to fight this particular lady. >> reporter: still, kayla said she was the victim. >> it's an excuse. it's an excuse for what happened. it's an excuse to let it just get swept under the rug. >> reporter: in cleveland, this

tornados, hurricane-force winds, power outages and flooding, it's shaping up to be a laborous labor day weekend. hurricane hermine now a tropical storm making landfall and then weakening as it moves inland. the national weather service still issuing warnings about damaging rain and big waves. after days of rising waters, flooding is still a problem in several counties. in sarasota, florida, some residents were trapped in their homes. flash flooding in places like clearwater. what is left expected to bring tidal surges of as much as 10 feet along the coast. >> and please protect the propertiy, and vaciate immediately. -- and evacuate immediately. >> reporter: the governor urging floridians to get ready with three days worth of supplies. >> bottom line, it's life- threatening. if you need to go to a shelter, go now. don't wait. >> extra water. >> still worried about the tidal surge. >> reporter: some are still in

. there has been an embarrassing setback for the world's biggest selling smartphone maker samsung. samsung issued a huge recall of one of the flagship devices. it's recalling all 2 1/2

are sold. the tech company said today it found a problem with a battery in some of the phones. this after several claims that the note 7 can catch fire while charging. samsung is pausing sales of the devices and it will offer the customers affected a new product for free as a replacement in the coming weeks. samsung's note 7 was unveiled a month ago. and wal-mart is slashing 7,000 jobs, back office jobs and store jobs. the big box store says the cuts will tak namesake stores with the goal of getting workers out of the back rooms and on to the selling floors. wal-mart officials said the company believes that many of the displaced workers will find new jobs involving direct contact with shoppers such as working in the online pickup department or as pharmacy technicians. and ex-stanford swimmer brock turner is walking free from a california jail today. the national outrage his life

. the collegiate athlete convicted of assaulting a young woman is a free man. brock turner, the former stanford swimmer walked out of a short jail stay after the controversial sentence which sparked national outrage. abcs ray reymu in, do details the story of the happens next for the former college student. >> reporter: brock turner exiting the santa clara county jail with his head down. >> you know? >> brock, brock! >> reporter: the former stanford swimmer then speeding off. >> and we don't know who picked him up or where he was going. >> yeah. >> and we're done. >> reporter: three months of a six-month sentence now over. but a sentence sparking a national fire storm. earlier this year, turner plead

of sexually assaulting a young woman who was passed out drunk behind this dumpster after a party on the stanford university campus. >> i know the -- think the law is think where. it's a wrong sentence, it's a terrible crime. we have a victim and no woman should have to go through that and he should be in prison. >> reporter: turner was convicted, the prosecution asking for six-year sentence and he was given a six-month jail term. the california judge aaron persky, case, received death threats and last week, removed himself from all criminal cases. >> if you look across this judge's cases, he has consistently bent over backwards in favor of white privileged defends in sex crime cases and in cases involving violence against women. >> reporter: california lawmakers on monday passing new legislation and that would eliminate a judge's discretion when it comes to sentencing probation when sex crimes are
