activities could be there. officials of the parma district said they had no idea about the deficit until a few weeks ago. however, some residents blame a former school treasurer. others blame state auditors. >> it's the state reporting, it's the state auditor's reporting and the school board reporting. there is a paper trail here and it needs to be looked at. >> the school district must decide on cuts. it must submit a new budget by the end of the month. and a meeting is scheduled for later this cuts. the proposal will be sent to the parma school board for its approval. in the meantime, the heroin epidemic in ohio reached a problem level. there are new laws growing from the situation. today, what is called the good samaritan law goes into affect. the goal of the new law is to help cut down on the number of drug-related deaths. meg shaw of our staff details the story. >> reporter: during a drug overdose, every second counts. state lawmakers believe this

across the buckeye state. under the good samaritan law, people calling 911 during a drug overdose captain be arrested for minor drug remember charges. so, a pro-- it protects not only the caller but the overdose victim as well. the goal: to have more people call for help when they see someone take too much. ohio attorney general mike dewine said the epidemic in our state is in a dire situation. >> reporter: this is penetratingef group, there is no economic group that is free of this problem: race, sex, age -- it's unlike any epidemic i have seen because it's everywhere. >> reporter: there are a few restrictions with the law. you can take advantage of it twice. if a person is on parole, they will not get immunity at all. the law also says that the drug abuser must follow through with treatments within 30 days. meg shaw, newschannel 5. and well, another one of

grocery shopping may get easier for wal-mart shoppers. the retail giant received a patent on the contraption that can resemble a self-driving shopping cart. the carts would have detachable motors with sensors and video cameras. the shoppers would be able to request carts on a shopper's smartphone. the system would be able to round up abandoned carts and return them to docking station. watch here comes the cart. there is a local group reaching out to help hundreds of military veterans in the area. the 12th annual sum met county veteran's stand down event and that begins morning and will run until 3 this afternoon. and on west waterloo road in akron. the group helps homeless or in- need military veterans prepare for the weather. they provide coats, boots, and sleeping bags and other winter supplies. >> and that is an initiative i

next to a truck on the road. what is advice for sharing the truck on the road with the drivers? >> i have a class cdl. most are safe drivers and go through a lot of training. the companies they're involved in do a lot as well and one thing that you should not do is hover next to a truck. if you want to pass the truck, pass it and have plenty of room to pass the truck. after changing lanes, give that trucker plenty of room as well and don't cut off the truck. stopping 80 on thousand pounds means a lot of distance. if you don't give the trucker a bad. >> what are the most common cases you see that involve trucking accidents? >> rear-end collisions, lane changes and intersections. the difficulty you have is because you have a geo political mismatch between the height of the truck and the car. the bumpers don't match up. the first point of impact, oftentime, is into the windshield itself. the second point are the folks in the car. >> and it's important to pay attention and that is such great advise. thank you again, andy, for being with us again today on legal tuesday.
