fresh air in. >> doesn't it just feel refreshing, like it's clean. >> it's crisp. >> that's the way to describe it. we're going to take a look at that temperature map for now. i want to get a look at the radar just to let you know there's no rain right new. there's -- right now. there's no rain in sight for the next 24 hours. really clear out there. barely a cloud in the sigh. -- in the sky. take a look at these temperatures. if you up but have not set foot outside yet, ashtabula at 45. but areas like jefferson and 41 degrees. 59 in mansfield. i know we're built for the cold and we can handle it but it's shocking since the first day of fall we were at 90 degrees. starting out in the 40s and 50s. we head to the afternoon.

the 60s, head to the 70s with lots of sunshine. very similar to yesterday, just a tad bit warmer. that's a look at your forecast. we will check back in soon. for you over the nick. -- to nick. the interbelt bridge inner belt bridge product has been a headache head but today good news, the wait is just about over. you are already seeing some cars travel on that bridge. the eastbound bridge set to open for the first time this morning. meg shaw is live with everything that you need to know. >> reporter: good morning, nick. we're just about 3 hours away from the grand opening of the eastbound george v bridge. i know a lot of folks coming into town for today's indians will be very excited about that. they will be the first drivers on the brand new bridge. construction on the eastbound side started back in 2014. the $273 million bridge now

pounds. odot officials say nearly 500 northeast ohioans have been employed to work on the bridges, that includes work on the westbound bridge. i spoke with one of those employees at the ground breaking ceremony. she said the opening is bittersweet but all worth it. >> everyone is going to be so much happier and to watch it from start to finish is -- i love telling my friends and my family, hey, look, i built that. >> reporter: something to be very proud of, i will say so starting at 11:00 this morning two lanes on the eastbound george v bridge will open. the other two lanes are expected to open in late october. of course westbound is bridge has been open. again, it opens at 11:00 today and you will be able to drive on that brand new bridge. live in cleveland, meg shaw, news channel 5. >> certainly a long time.

so far this weekend we learned at least seven people have died from drug overdoses in cuyahoga county. they urged those struggling with addiction to seek help immediately. the examiner said this cluster of deaths means it's likely there's an extra potent batch of drugs in our area. now to some related video shared on facebook shows firefighters trying to save a man with in his car. employees performed cpr on the man until help arrived. new information about a body found in the trunk of a car on cleveland's east side. police have a woman in custody in connection with that crime. officers were called to east 140th street on friday night and found human remains inside that car. the name of the victim and cause of death have not yet been released. one of five homicides in cleveland in the last five days

at a gas station, another man was found dead inside an abandoned home and a third victim was found shot in his car, a fourth man died saturday morning in a drive-by shooting. no arrests have been made in any of these cases. the naacp calling for an independent investigation into police-involved shooting in columbus. it comes after a police officer shot and killed a teenager carrying a bb gun. their respects to an 8th grader. during the service the pastor demanded a better future for kids. >> one of us as individuals have a certain spear of influence and we should use that influence to teach our children and to continue to guide them away from violence or the parent appearance of it. >> the police officer who shot and killed king is on leave until the investigation is finished. all right. well, it's the third week of the nfl season and

quarterback. in fact, it's their fifth different starting quarterback in the last five games dating back to last year. rookie cody kessler will get his shot today. he's replacing josh mccown who went down with a broken collarbone who is the replacement for robert griffith, iii who broke his shoulder. they are winless so far. they will try to get in the win afternoon. the indians on the other hand looking much better. magic number now down to two. because the detroit tigers play today the indians could end up clenching the division in a playoff spot this afternoon. they need to beat the white sox right here at probreszgress -- at progressive field. coming up later, if you drop

good morning. and welcome back back. i'm meteorologist samara theodore. still waiting on my live shot to load. come on. there we go. isn't that beautiful out there? gorgeous out there. blue skies. we're in for another lovely day here in northeast ohio. here's the difference, it's going to be a really brisk start. a notably cooler start. in cleveland 53 degrees. akron 52. canton in the upper 40s at 49. again, lots of sunshine but these temperat now at that expected high for the day. if you live in cleveland we're going to about 74. akron and canton the mid 70s for you. a lot more sunshine than we saw for your saturday. nick over to you. >> very nice . a refreshing start to the second part of the weekend for sure. there's a crack down on mail fraud for older americans. we're digging into how deal it is. the government trying to

processers, mailers and generators. the mail schemes say you won a prize and you need to send money for a processing fee or taxes. >> our senior citizens should be enjoying your retirement, not financing some fraudsters lifestyles. >> a network of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies from around the world identified mail fraud as a major financl general said it impacts millions of people here in the u.s. the schemes have defrauded them out of hundreds of millions of dollars. of course you should be suspicious of new unsolicited mail you get. you will never be required to pay money to get a lottery or sweet stakes prize. if you get one of those letters report it to the ftc immediately. with ef -- we have a link on our website to do that. trending this morning, snap chat is getting a rebrand. it's

time now 8:15 on your sunday morning. new from over night, eight people including a 3-year-old recovering after a shooting in baltimore. three gunmen swarmed a group of people outside a house and opened fire. the shooters then ran away. baltimore police think it was retaliation for a labor day weekend shooting that left one person dead. all eight of the victims how thankfully are expected to survive. the search is over for the man suspected of killing five people at a washington state mall. there he is. police took 20-year-old or arcan cetin into custody last night. he's a turkish immigrant with legal permanent residence in the united states. a lieutenant spotted him walking and immediately recognized him as the suspect. >> he said nothing.

best i can describe. >> he had an assault charge earlier this year. it's too early to rule out terrorism or anything else because their investigation is in the preliminary stages. after heavy pressure the charlotte, north carolina police department is releasing two videos they took during the fatal shooting of keith la mont school. the man's family climbs he was unarmed, police say he had a gun drop it. a video taken by the man's wife has not settled. it eva pill gram is in charlotte. >> the frantic fatal moments of the stand off recorded by police. keith lamont scott is seen exiting his vehicle, walking backwards, his hands down and then -- >> we have shots fired. one suspect is down . >> this body camera video

perspective. an officer wields a baton in an effort to get scott out of his vehicle. scott is seen briefly standing in the parking lot and then laying mortally wounded as police advance with guns drawn. >> officers appear to administer first aid. >> we need to hold the wound. >> police have con if i recalled -- confirmed to abc news this gun pictured at the scene is the gun they say they recovered from scott. >> based on what we see he absolutely was in possession of a handgun. >> police also released this photo of what they say is scott's gun and an ankle holster he was wearing. investigators say that testing on the gun police say they found at the scene allegedly matches scott's fingerprints, dna and blood. lawyers continue to cast doubt on the police account. >> he doesn't lung at the

again, there's no definitive evidence in this video as to whether or not there is an object in his hand. >> the streets of charlotte swelled with protesters for a fifth night. the demonstration on saturday remaining mostly peaceful. >> eva pilgrim, abc news. hundreds of a tulsa church to honor terrance crutcher. betty shelby has been charged with first degree manslaughter. before the funeral they marched through dournt tulsa calling for an end to violence. the cdc is issuing a recall for ground beef in the new england area after seven people were deviced the e. coli.

the meat was pro cessed by adam farm's slaughter house. the rising cost of the epi pen is causing some people to find alternatives. instructions for the epi pencil have been posted around the internet. the epi pencil costs just about $35 to build. all the parts, other than that the medicine can be purchased over the counter. doctors issuing a stern warning here, you are making this at your own risk and if you are risking your life. it's still recommended to get the real thing. until now if your phone ended up in a lake or the sink or maybe a toilet you were pretty much out of luck. you could tripe rice or the oven but those are fall from foolproof meths. enter tech drive. it was developed by two engineering grad students who were tired of destroying their phones and being without the technology they love.

headlines go, it's a brisk start. yo you -- you will notice that as soon as you head out the door. a lot more sunshine than we saw for your saturday. yesterday we had those clouds billowing in in the morning. rain moves in for your monday. it's been a while since we've gotten rain here in northeast ohio. it's on its way. current temperatures, 49 degrees in peninsula, 45 in sugrin falls. in orwell it's 42 degrees there this morning. yeah, that's we've seen numbers in the 60 to start the day. 46 degrees in ashland. good morning, ashland. dry conditions across the board. remember i said that those clear skies really played a significant role in why these temperatures are so low. when we lose a lot of the cloud coverage over night we start to lose a lot of the heating. it escapes into the upper atmosphere so that temperature dropped significantly.

front that's approaching. it should be arriving for your monday. the future cast is going to help me explain that. we're staying sun ny today and lot of sunshine. temperatures in the mid 70s. here's a look at that future cast that i was talking about. keep your eye on the time stamp as well. 9:15 a.m. still dry and climbing. temperatures will approach the mid 70s this afternoon by about 4:00 or 5:00. we'll wrap up this sunday very beautifully. into monday the morning rush hour should live in the western counties on 90 eastbound maybe some showers. rain moving across the area just around lunchtime but it should be out of here by tuesday. now, tuesday's rain showers are more than likely going to be lake-effect rain. that means that the rain for tuesday will be impacting our eastern counties. that's a look at your forecast. over to you, nick. >> looking good . thank you, samara. well, the wait continues for tribe fans as the indians take

half hour with a beautiful live look outside from our tower cam. blue skies hanging over downtown cleveland. the second of two great days in your weekend on tap. welcome back to this sunday edition of good morning cleveland. i'm nick foley. we have several developing stories, including the much anticipated opening of the george v bridge today. meg shaw is live with that. first a check on the forecast with samara. >> did you see what meg is wearing? she has her jacke it's cool outside. cleveland 53 might not see that bad. ashtabula county our neighbors are fairing about 41 degrees. it's a really cool start out there. brisk, cool chilly start and things will improve as we head throughout the day. sunny conditions, temperatures climbing into the 70s. 77 degrees expected in sandusky. 79 in ashland. looking at 76 in vermilion and lorain. the low

pocket out towards beachwood and soland in the lower 70s. in the south the upper 70s. 78 degrees in akron, 77 in canton and 76 in alliance. again, a very warm day ahead of us. i know that's difficult to believe when you walk outside this morning. bring a light jacket if you're going on that morning walk. i also want you to know that rain is reentering your forecast. it's been some time since we received a good amount of rain here in northeast ohio. we'll talk about the t >> thank you. breaking news this morning, a possible smash and grab on the city's west side. this was the scene at the easy shop gas station on 116th and clifton boulevard around 6:00 this morning. no sign of whatever vehicle did all that damage to the front of the store. we are making calls and will update you when we have more information. all right. well, the brand new eastbound george v bridge is open to drivers after years of construction. a few hours ahead of schedule too.

live in tremont with all the details. if you look close you can see some cars heading eastbound. meg, drivers have been waiting for this day for quite some time. >> reporter: oh, yeah, nick. the anticipated day is finally here. after nearly 2 years of construction like we've already said the bridge is now open. connecting the west side of cleveland to the east side. now, construction crews began working on the east side of the bridge back in 2014 after demolition of the old 1950s era inner belt bridge. odot said this is the largest bridge replacement project in our state's history and the largest single project investment for odot ever. the bridges cost just over a half a billion dollars. clevelanders said it's more than just a bridge, it means something to our city. >> what i love about it is is that we're seeing parts of cleveland that we never saw before. >> it takes the east side and

i think that's what our town is all about. we really are just one big town. a great town. >> reporter: so as nick mentioned fshg were ahead of -- mentioned, we are ahead of schedule a little bit. the bridge is officially open. it wasn't supposed to open until 11:00. i've seen several cars driving across the bridge. a couple of our employees say it was a bit weird driving on it. so if you're heading into downtown for today's indians game don't worry about that officially cross two lanes on the eastbound george v bridge. big day for our city. live in cleveland, meg shaw, news channel 5. >> might take a little time getting used to wondering if you're going the right way. it's set and ready to go for sure. >> reporter: exactly. another quick traffic alert that you need to know about. the east side red line is not running today between tower city and wind mere. take the 66 r bus. look for the special orange signs at each station.

bridge work over martin luther king drive. new information on a situation we first brought you yesterday as breaking news on good morning cleveland. you'll remember this crazy video. cleveland police tasing and using a stun gun to arrest a suspect on a busy downtown street. that man now identified as 23-year-old bryan brack of canton. he's accused of shoving an off-duty officer through the window. he was bleeding a lot but >> it's disturbing. i'm alarmed. i want to make sure everybody is okay. the first concern is the officer. >> brack is now facing several charges including felonious assault on a police officer, vandalism and resisting arrest. the ramp from 8 to 271 is open again this morning after a bad crash that involved d multiple vehicles. this happened yesterday afternoon. the ramp

another bad accident yesterday. this time on i-90 eastbound near carnage avenue. six vehicles were involved in that pile up. traffic was backed up actually police worked to clear the scene. i'm an experienced hunter and i like the deer. they can stay around. >> protesters taking to the streets of shaker heights to reduce the deer population in their city. the city plans to be -- thin that herd. officials have gotten hundreds of complaints about the deer damaging landscaping and cars. president obama test -- protesters point to a survey that shows they have 10 deer per square mile. >> we have a number that we can totally handle in the city and there's no need to shoot them. >> killing deer is not a conservation and does nothing to control their population because they rebound. >> got some very strong opinions on this issue.

more humane way to deal with the deer like repellants or trap and release. now to a creepy story. around ohio one community is keeping a watchful eye out for a crazed clown. two people in stuberville said two people dressed as a clown chased them with a knife. >> it was scary. >> they were doing some weird stuff. we just ran in the house. we don't have time for so we ran to her house. >> in have been -- there have been several reports of creepy clowns around the county. nay -- they have no idea if it's prank or if they want to hurt people. they are looking for surveillance video. no one won last week's drawing so the jackpot is now up to $3 million for the queen of
