somebody they love. >> reporter: the teenager was injured in a game on friday night. but why he died is still a mystery. >> news 5 is speaking exclusively to andre jackson's family about the moments leading up to his death. >> reporter: kristin volk first told us about this story last night at 11:00. his family said that he had no underlining health conditions? >> reporter: that's right. family say that he was very healthy and that we just got video of the play this is video from friday night of the game against solan. take a look. now that video shows an opponent's foot hitting andre's stomach. what happened next, andre walked off the field,

hospital and then he was released the next day. but then yesterday, his older brother rushed to give him cpr when he was found not breathing at home. >> he just wanted to play football for the rest of his life. >> reporter: a lifelong passion to play pro-football cut so very short. >> if there is nobody to blame, they don't know who to blame. >> reporter: his family has so many questions. >> when i tried to find out what happened, everybody was like he's fine, he's fine. >> i wasn't re little brother, he was dead. >> reporter: the 17-year-old fullback and outside linebacker, he is dead, two days after suffering an abdominal injury friday night during a special team's play. last night, his coach called the play completely normal. >> there was a huge kick. he was going for the ball and one of those guys were going for the ball and i think that he got kicked.

after they say that he walked off the field with help. paramedics took him to the university hospital because they say that was the family's request. they have no trauma center. >> we defer to the patient's choice unless their condition dictates otherwise. >> reporter: they say that andre was released on saturday and sunday, he died. >> he had a smile on ain't nobody taking that smile away from him. >> reporter: the cuyahoga county medical examiner has not yet determined a cause of death. now university hospitals released this statement today. it says that we express our deepest sympathy to andre's family. we are conducting a full review of his care and will be meeting with his family. euclid school district officials just told us that friday's homecoming game will be played as scheduled. i'm kristin volk news 5.

tackled, now on defense. cleveland police, they pounced on a man that they say punched and shoved an off-duty cop. this is video from friday night we showed you over the weekend. now that man's family will share their side of the story. >> derek waller -- derick waller is here right now. they got it all wrong? >> there is a huge disagreement between police and the family of the man arrested facts. stop resisting. >> reporter: they jumped on the man they say that assaulted one of their own. the 23-year-old and his underage girlfriend, 20-year- old destiny dixon are both charged with felonious assault. >> reporter: they are saying oh quit resisting arrest. how are you resisting arrest when you're shot? >> reporter: brian's sister, mom, and dad drove from

because the last time i had seen my son he was on his way from a cleveland indians game. >> reporter: a post-game disagreement at panini's turned into an all-out brawl. the police incident report said that brax started the fight with an off-duty cop who was working security. after the officer told the couple that they had to leave because dixon was illegally drinking alcohol. but brax said that the cop started it. >> the gentlemen walked up to him and pushed him and he pushed him back that their guy was in his police uniform. >> he wasn't in uniform? >> no. he was just like you and i are. >> reporter: those discrepancies could be cleared up with surveillance video. police collected it at the scene, but neither police nor panini's management have chosen to release it publicly. >> i would love to see that video. i'd love to see it. news 5 has chosen not to identify the officer because he is not being charged with a crime yet. i have asked him for an interview to clear this up, but

one. i'm derick waller news 5. we just confirmed the wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against akron police william lennon sr. claims that his son was not armed when he was shot and killed by police last september. at the time william lennon jr. was wanted for robbing a grocery store. he refused to take his hand away from a waistband and they opened fire. they ruled the shooting justified. william lennon sr. clms wants at least $75,000 now in damages. let's get a check on our weather right now. here is chief meteorologist mark johnson. >> improvement on its way in. look at this a live look at our tower cam. how about that? some sunshine now poking through the high thin cirrus bands. the lower clouds are moving out of here. now, there could still be an isolated sprinkle out over the lake, it looks like everybody is drying out rather nicely. and the skies are clearing out from the west as well.

now. ft. wayne and lineman and toledo, they are moving our way for your evening. now temps, they are cool. we've got 62 in ashtabula and youngstown and canton at 64 in worcester. 63 mansfield. middle 60s for cleveland and elyria. so you might need that sweater. again, we're going to watch these temps diving down for greater cleveland. they will end up generally 55 degrees. it'll be a bit on the breezier side overnight an hour winds with temps rising, but definitely a fall- like weather pattern here. if you are staying out late tonight those temps in the 50s by 10:00 p.m. with a lot of star shining. the rain is ending, but there will be more rain showers coming back our way for midweek as we will track them in hour by hour and plus i'll tell you if there are anybody more 80s in the seven-day forecast. that's coming up next. we are learning more about an accident that shut down a

weekend. a 7-year-old boy was killed happening just before 1:00 saturday afternoon on state route 8 north. he was in a 2018 honda accord when the driver rammed into the back of the minivan. another child in the car suffered a serious injury. neither were wearing a seat belt. cleveland firefighters believe that the home was set on fire, the same house where police found the man's days ago. the flames started shooting through the home earlier this morning as our cameras are capturing the investigators on the scene. on saturday they found the body of christopher sullin outside that home shot to death. no arrests have been made here. only on 5:00 tonight, an east cleveland woman claims that they would have all their appliances. they couldn't get any help and they would turn to news 5. >> the right place and the land

demolition next door to her house when she lost power. >> reporter: everything was just fine as we were just fine. and so how would you think? >> reporter: that we reached out to the land bank as they told us that the power was off and back on before they could start that demolition. and the company told us that they are they are trying to help get to the bottom of this issue. we are continuing to follow the recent surge of overdoses. they issued the public health warning. tonight officials are trying to determine what types of drugs were involved with those deaths. more than 50 people died from heroin or fentanyl in the cleveland area last month. >> well, let's face off with hillary clinton and donald

less than three hours from now if you're counting, hillary clinton and donald trump will face off on this stage for their first presidential debate. this is a live hofstra university in new york. crews are putting the finishing touches on the arena making sure that everything looks perfect. a record 100 million viewers are expected to watch tonight's debate. it's going to be a good one. >> thousands of demonstrators will be watching as well. from a distance police have set up a protest area just across from hofstra university of the opposing groups that will be separated to prevent any possible violence here. at least 1,000 officers as well patrolling the event in

the stakes are higher than ever. virtually clinton and trump are going into this as a tie. this is why cleveland could play a history right off the map. >> the most watched television debate took place in cleveland public hall in 1980 between president jimmy carter and ronald reagan with an audience of 81 million. tonight's potential record breaking debate takes place on the anniversary of the first televised pr kennedy/nixon in 1960. that debate changed presidential debates going forward just as this one has the potential to do as well tonight. the folks at abc news has a team of fact checkers ready to watch the debate as their polls show yesterday that americans expect clinton to win the first contest. 47-33%. and the reality is no one reallying knows what to -- really knows what to expect. >> this will be a debate like no other because the potentially biggest television event other than a super bowl of all time.

times showing 14.4% of the black voters want trump in the white house. compare that to 76.8 of whites who favor clinton. locally owned black businesses want to make sure their communities are served and they have the opportunity to vote. joining us live in the studio. dhomonique ricks, you profiled one cleveland business today? >> that's right, rob. i went to urban cuts barbershop as they want to make sure that the community has easy access to voter information and registration. folks can fill out their form and drop it in a box that they have inside the shop. yo an effort to make the process a little less intimidating. and what better place than a spot where folks go to congregate and of socialize? owner waverly willis says it doesn't matter who you vote for, just vote. >> it's no good to complain about something and you're not doing anything had proactive about it. i'm an action person. don't talk my ear off. doing? >> reporter: and only 66% of blacks voted in 2012.

here we go. it could be an isolated shower here in amongst these little echos that are moving right along the lake shore. but most likely these are some of the cumulus clouds that are still lingering. and any sprinkles here towards akron and canton, they should fade away very quickly. the main band of rain is well off to the east. so that's great news. now as we zoom on in, we will show you some rain totals. not a lot of rainfall. but look at canton, less than a tenth of an inch and a quarter of an inch for .15 for worcester and akron. .21 for ashtabula. so it was raining, but primarily light rains. we have clearing skies coming in, clearing out scouring out a lot of the cloudiness, which will be the trend through the evening hours. and 62 in canton. 63 currently in ashtabula. here we go. 59% humidity with the west wind at 8. then the visibilities,
