breaking news. hurricane matthew close to making landfall near charleston, north carolina. weakening, but plowing up the coast. the latest on the damage it is leaving behind. donald trump issued an apology overnight after sexually aggressive remarks by the presidential candidate are made public. one senator said that's not enough. hello and welcome to the saturday edition of good morning cleveland. i'm nick foley. hurricane matthew come overnight, it was downgraded to a category 2. six are dead in the u.s. and the death toll in haiti is rising to nearly 800 and millions are without power

lauren lister live in new smyrna beach florida with a look at the conditions as the hurricane continues to move forward. >>reporter: good morning. it is hard to believe less than 24 hours ago you could barely walk where i am as hurricane matthew battered this area, left behind downed trees like this and worse, it continues moving north. overnight, matthew bringing deafening rain, storm surge and destruction to south carolina, flooding roads, downing trees and driving cars off the road. an eerie light show on this highway as multiple powerlines

shows for us. it brings winds gusting up to 80 miles an hour, a state of emergency was declared in georgia, south carolina and north carolina. expect the best thing is to hunker down, stay in a safe place. don't move or try to move around. >>reporter: after pummeling florida -- >> sounded like a train hitting the house. >>reporter: matthew barrels through the palm coast and a security camera captures the moment rushing water goes into a home with roads being washed away. st. augustine, one of the hardest hit with water flooding downtown streets . matthew travels north, and 26,000 people are writing about at shelters in the carolina and thousands are without power on the georgia coast. in florida, more than 1 million people are without power and is clean up begins, residents hear it could be a week before they have the electric back.

hurricane tracking the path -- janessa webb, joining us for more on the hurricane tracking the path of matthew. making lamb for -- making landfall, the eyewall is well offshore but we're talking about 105 mile-per-hour winds affecting savannah and charleston. showing you the rotation of these heavy bands, currently coming down across the area, we water along with a very gusty conditions. hurricane force winds, even though it is a category reduced to two, it is shifting north and the heavy bands currently are hitting savannah and to hilton head island and you can see the moisture continuing to lift north with the major track of the storm, the spin is right now a southerly flow and we are

east to be the big difference in the next 24 hours. closer to home, we see quiet conditions across northern ohio, waking up to a cold front already making its way across the area. not much moisture associated with it. but to the west, temperatures are already starting to fall and greater cleveland is in the lower 60s. philly currently 66 and we a clouds are lifting by the 11:00 hour and we will be sitting in a lot of sunshine. >> a nice early fall day. thank you. breaking overnight, presidential candidate, donald trump said i'm sorry for sexually aggressive comments he made a decade ago. the video surfaced friday making the rounds all over the internet and you may have seen it. just after midnight he posted

>>reporter: the timing couldn't be more problematic for donald trump. we are one month from election day and now, he has to focus on damage control, which he started last night with the apology video on his facebook page where he admitted he was wrong. in case you haven't seen or heard about the 11-year-old video of washington post, trump can be heard talking to billy bush about trying to sleep with a married woman. he never mentions her neighbor casually discusses aggressive advances toward women and hours later, comes his apology. in the newly released video, trump said that video doesn't reflect who he truly is and said his travel during the selection has changed him. >> i have gotten to know the great people of our country and i've been humbled by the faith they've placed in me. i pledge to be a better man

the spin. it has been downgraded to a category 2. folks, that doesn't mean things have let up. we are seeing the heaviest bands currently making its way onshore in charleston, south carolina. you can see moisture lifting to the north and we are not in the clear just yet. north carolina from wilmington, a storm surge of water levels up to 10 feet in some areas. the rotation of this storm is sout see a little bit of reprieve. we are not in the clear, just yet. family and friends, south carolina to north carolina, call and check on your friends and family. the water level is coming in and heavy amounts. >> thousands more will be without power when it comes onshore. a euclid football star who died will be laid to rest. andre jackson took a hard hit in the midsection during the kickoff and was taken off the

two days later, he died of complications related to that injury. the funeral is at 10:00 this morning at starlight baptist church in east cleveland. residents at cuyahoga county will gather for a rally against heroin from 2:00 until 6:00 at cole lake park. major hospital systems, law enforcement and groups from northeast ohio will be there to provide addiction education and treatment options and there will be food and live entertainment. a group of north ridgeville police officers, dispatchers, record clerks and administrative personnel have filed a lawsuit against the city. they claim overtime pay was underpaid and the complaint adds the method of calculating overtime violates the fair standards act. police and fbi searching for a man who robbed a bank yesterday in mayfield heights.

welcome back. police in cincinnati have a suspect this morning after a long search for a man wanted in several robberies well wearing a clown mask. todd keith was arrested before midnight last night. his wanted for the fbi for robbing two banks at gunpoint in michigan while wearing the clown mask. he was found hiding out, outside cincinnati after a long chase, putting a middle school on lockdown and shutting down 52 for a short while. at . new details emerge about several high-profile profile stories we've been following. first, the ceo of backpage.com said he will fight sex trafficking charges. carl ferrer was arrested and texas offices rated. back pages of a site that makes money from adult ads. investigator said it is used to illegally trafficked women and young girls and the national center for missing and next the children reported 29 on hundred cases of suspected sex

he will face charges in california. the hoboken train station that was the site of this deadly crash will reopen next week. fewer than half of the tracks will be open. investigator said the train was going twice the speed limit when it crashed on one woman died and more than 100 were injured. pull in event out of north carolina. this move affects the men's basketball championship and the games was scheduled for greensboro and will now be played in south carolina. businesses have been pulling out since north carolina passed a law that affects antidiscrimination protection. hack attack stores we've heard those things provident does prevalently in the news and they've been a concern the selection your and president obama pointed the finger at

lower 50s to the west and as the front moves through, warm air to the south, it is over philly at 66. looking at the radar, you notice cloud coverage and raindrops due to the front making its way to lakewood, bay village and its scattered showers moving out fairly quickly. activity but cloud coverage will be in place as high pressure moves in. i will show you that in a moment. talking about hurricane matthew, we see that as the category 2 storm but the eyewall is making its way to charleston, south carolina with possible landfall later this morning, and you can see the lift is to the north. make sure you check on family and friends across the eastern seaboard. closer to home, this is the front we're talking about and behind it is massive cooler air with daytime highs back in the

the clouds stack to the south through the afternoon to allow for an abundance of sunshine and if you have plans for a drive this afternoon, if you want to be out and about, it is looking fantastic. i suggest you have a light coat handy. 59 with overnight lows getting quite chilly and portions of northeast ohio will fall in the lower 40s tonight. decreasing clouds that really start to lift fall in the daytime highs tonight. we are looking forward to that meteor shower north with clouds starting to split apart. it should be quite a show. akron and canton and joy -- not 761 -- [laughter] that is really high. 61 for the daytime high. lots of sunshine involved with highs in the 70s by tuesday.

only candidate in hot water. hillary clinton's campaign dealing with scandal, as well. thousands of new emails wikileaks is releasing. welcome back to this half- hour of the saturday additional good morning cleveland. i'm nick foley. here's what we know about hurricane matthew. it was downgraded to a category 2. at least six are dead in the u.s. with the death toll in haiti rising to nearly 800 people and millions are without power in the southeastern states. we begin with lauren lister in new smyrna beach and we will come back to talk the weather with -- we will go to haiti. the u.s. military is on the move, headed to haiti. that area in crisis after more than 800 people are dead and that number could rise. look at what survivors are dealing with, shredded homes and towns flooded with 300 marines and helicopters going to help that will deliver relief to remote areas.

local red cross to see if volunteers would be deployed to haiti. they said volunteers would focus on victims in the u.s. and we know you probably are wondering how you can help. you can donate to relief organizations like the red cross. if you are an at&t customer, text matthew to 90999 to make a ten dollar donation. janessa is joining us to talk about this storm. we've been seeing haiti affected and island nations of the atlantic coast and now, south carolina. this storm is nowhere near done. just because it's been downgraded to a category 2, we are talking about storm surges across the area with lots of moisture and hurricane force winds, 105 miles per hour and the biggest concern is that we are seeing that the wall affecting charleston, south carolina, to savannah, it

track, hopefully making its way east out to landfall. you can see south carolina, north carolina not in the clear just yet with major concerns being the wind up to 105 miles per hour across wilmington, to charleston right now. in the green, the flood concerns and warnings across the eastern seaboard, and closer to home, a cold front with not much moisture associated with it. it will bring in cooler air to the west. you can still see the bubble of warm air tracking it from portage until dover with philly currently has 66. for the last week or so, we are talking about sunny skies and

you notice the dramatic fall in the daytime highs with highs by 11:00 at 50 degrees. a daytime high of 60. >> the fall cool down is officially upon us. donald trump focuses on damage control over friday's video side, hillary clinton's campaign is dealing with scandal. wikileaks released thousands of new emails. following the campaign trail, what is the latest. >>reporter: wikileaks said it's just the beginning of a series of deals involving clinton and her campaign chair. the website released 2049 emails they said came from her account. it came hours after the obama administration accused russia of attempting to interfere with the election. among the documents were a transcript of paid and private speeches that clinton gave and

$26 million for those speeches. in one of them she told bankers, quote, she favored open trade and open borders and did another speech three said clinton's must quote to both public and private possession while making deals and saying, quote, it is unsavory and it is always been that way but will usually end up where we need to be. adding, if everyone is watching, all of the backroom discussions and deals, people get a little nervous, to say the least pick you need both public and private positions. at this point, the clinton campaign has not confirmed the authenticity of the documents. it did not deny them, either. he said he doesn't have time to figure out which documents are real and which are fake. >> a lot going on in the political world. two people hit it by a car while changing a tire last night, the latest in a series of similar crashes.

and last week, a woman was killed while changing a tire on i-4 80. megan hickey is looking into what's going on. >>reporter: this was a scene on i-490 westbound on friday night with an ambulance transporting two from the side of the highway near east 56th. one man hit by a car while trying to change his tire. it's an eerily several a similar scene to the one on saturday night. >> people changing attire were struck by a motorist. >> misha matthews was changing her tire when she was struck and killed, leaving behind two young children. >> it's crazy that two have gotten injured over a tire. truck drivers said they are fed up. >> if i'm trying to fix my tire, and someone kills me, who will watch out for my grandchildren, it terrifies me to know that people are in such a rush that they would hit me well i'm trying to get my car together. >>reporter: ohio law requires

chemotherapy and as a result, started to lose her hair and decided to shave it off. she's an 11-year veteran and is close to fellow deputy's. 17 deputies from the office shave their heads for her. >> i cried a lot. being with the support, it's been amazing and my brothers and sisters in blue, we put our lives in each other's hands every day and it's been amazing. >> they did a much than i did with her name. she has months of tough treatment ahead but said with help from her family, she has this. we've got her back, as well and

temperatures feeling summerlike this weekend. it is about pumpkin spice and the fall like weather pattern. >> it was touching 80, with everyone going to the game last weekend. >> warm air was in place and now we are tracking a cold front with scattered showers and a lot of sunshine throughout the afternoon. we are talking about temperatures cooling off. >> these are pictures from jacksonville as they see worst of the storm passing through. thousands are left without power. >> south carolina, north carolina are not in the clear. closer to home, to the west, cooler air is coming in. greater cleveland is in the lower 60s but remember the 60s. that will be the daytime high across the board and we won't warm up as the front moves through. power five, you can see a week

little bit of rain for northern cuyahoga county and north olmsted. you are in the clear now but williford heights is seeing scattered showers and some isolated for northern madonna county. brunswick is up next with a few showers and clouds working in. talking about that storm and hurricane making its way up charleston, south carolina right now, you can see outer walls producing heavy bands of moisture, even though it has been downgraded to a category 2 hurricane. we are still talking about maximum wins to 105 miles per hour and hopefully we see relief as it tracks north. closer to home, the front behind it is massive with cooler air and we have been spoiled for the start of fall. you notice it decrease in temperatures throughout the

showing futurecast, you are waking up to cloud coverage and throughout the afternoon, high pressure will build to allow us to fit in more sunshine. it may be a nice afternoon drive, but still having a light coat handy. tonight, overnight lows across the board, they will fall in the lower 40s with a high of 60 degrees, 20-degree fall in temperatures with a big meteor shower happening this evening. look you are bundled up with sweater weather and overnight lows of 47. the younger generations may recognize the name bob hope. they may not understand the giant role the entertainer had in hollywood for years after leaving his roots in northeastern ohio. one greater cleveland manned is determined to keep his legacy alive. has more than his share of memorabilia. here's the story in this week's my ohio.

he was a top shelf entertainer. the smiling bob hope. comedian, movie star, song and dance man and patriot. back my grandfather said organize these pictures. >>reporter: aroma of treasures, memorabilia from bob hope, who entertained for decades. it is wall-to-wall attended by a tour guide. >> when are you goin they asked? and he would say, what for. i travel the world and tell jokes and play golf every day and they pay me. [laughter] retire? why? >>reporter: in ohio, this phase is strikingly familiar. a resemblance of bob hope, the entertainer. let's say it's all in the family. >> my nose, i wasn't a boxer

>>reporter: bob hope jr., the nephew of the great entertainer. all this in greater cleveland? you bet. bob hope grew up in cleveland, brought here by his british parents three years after their son's 1903 birth. hope's father was a stonemason who helped build what was later renamed cleveland's hope memorial bridge. mother and father had seven sons and as a kid, he renamed himself bob and is not in this 1920s photograph, but could've been. he hawked newspapers and later, he quit high school and went vaudeville. >> back then, they did tap dancing, they sang and counted on people throwing apples to them so they could eat. >> brush your teeth and your

>>reporter: the nation went on a fight for world war ii and hope went to war. he kept entertaining during his time in other wars. he traveled with entertainers and his great-nephew, songwriter and military veteran, he talked with the man who entertained even in the face of war. >> he flew over vietnam and zones where he could have been blown to bits with everybody on board. he was a great man. >> they put their life on the line and have given up everything. they never knew what to expect, especially in vietnam. >> a 21 gun salute and three of them are ours. hill that day and this photograph was taken then. >> he said, this is what you are fighting for back home and we all cheered. bob hope, thanks for the memories. >> ? >>reporter: this vietnam film strikes a chord with me. the hope group traveled to my unit when i was in this audience, enjoying the good times for fighting man, nothing like reminders of home. years later, his great-nephew is surrounded by hope items rarely seen outside these walls. nephew has kept his all, why not? he carries the name of his great uncle who had a say in his naming before he was born. >> my dad was taken to the airport and he said, if it is a boy, i give credit for that.
