good morning, everyone. welcome to the weekend.
8:11 am
big time temperature 58 degrees. so that cooler air in place. we are tracking our cold front that produced us with a few rain drops earlier this morning. right now you can start to see the clearing that is taking place out towards wayne county. and we're looking forward to these clouds lifting to the north, and that's going to allow for more abundant sunshine taking over. right now, hey, good morning, medina56 degrees. ashtabula, you're off to a wo decreasing clouds, but i promise you by the 11:00 hour you're going to be sitting in sunny skies across the board. now, our normal for today is 66 degrees this time of year. you can see we're down to the lower 60s as the front continues to track through. this is sweater weather that's back in full effect. we've been spoiled this last week, upper 70s to lower 80s. so more of a fall-like weather pattern taking over. nick. >> thank you, janessa.

8:15 now on your saturday morning. hurricane matthew has left hundreds of thousands of people without power as the now category 1 storm skirts the state's east coast, but its most damaging blow to the southeastern u.s. could still come later. holly ferrer now live in
8:16 am
matthew's damage. and, holly, please, give us the lay of the land where you are. how bad is it this morning? >>reporter: yeah. well, nick, not too great in some areas. we had a resident that just walked by and said this is way worse than the last hurricane they went through in oa 4 as she's assessing damage, it appears to be by her house or by her business. that's what we're dealing with now. you know, yesterday when hurricane matthew came right by the coast here it was a category 4 points, and today is when everyone is assessing. they just opened the bridge about an hour ago, letting cars come back because they were evacuated two days ago to see what has happened to their homes and to their businesses. and officials are very concerned because they're say, listen, it's a mess in some places. i want to show you something. we found this where we are right now. this is what they're concerned about. this wood came off of somewhere, but you see these rusty nails sticking up. people could be walking through the debris and not see
8:17 am
else even more potentially dangerous. over here you see this is a downed power line. a lot of people may not see something like this, but they've lost power to much of daytona beach here, and the concern is that people will be walking around and not notice these downed power lines. so today really it's just about cleanup as people come and assess the damage. we've seen many business owners over here saying they don't know when they're going to be able to open a evacuated, they're safe and buildings and homes can be fixed. >> holly, this storm really has affected so many people as it made its way along the coast, so many thousands affected by this. any word on some of the areas specifically where you are about when those aid crews, those repair crews will be in to help folks out? >>reporter: we've seen some emergency vehicles around. we don't know exactly when, but we know that police and fire
8:18 am
we just saw a volusia county truck come by. they're working down by the beach. they're working on some of the the facilities there because where you're looking at right now, the water washed ashore, all the way up to this point, and it brought a lt a lot of debris here. that building over there, there were two stairways on it, on the beach side. one stairway is still there, one stairway is completely gone. we don't know where it is. we assume it was washed out into the ocean. >> holly ferfir, a long road for the folks as they begin the recovery proc and janessa now joining us for a look more at this storm. just amazing damage as we are taking a live look now, a lot different in our neck of the woods than what those images we just showed folks there. again, as holly mentioned, that damage, it's really -- you don't know what you're getting into until you actually get out there and see it firsthand. >> exactly. >> it's a process, a long process to go through that damage and move on. not like that for us. >> for us in northeast ohio we
8:19 am
we were tracking just a very weak cold front, but, you know, we are not over with this hurricane here. downgraded to a category 1 currently, but if you have family and friends across charleston, south carolina to raleigh-durham, north carolina, i want you to check on them this morning. you know, the eye of that storm has not made landfall, and it doesn't look like it will, but we're still talking about maximum sustained winds up to 100 mile you can see the heavier bands charleston, making its way up to the florence area, fayetteville, raleigh, charlotte, they are up next. we are talking about gusty conditions along with copious amounts of moisture. the biggest concern is the storm surge, the beach erosion that's going to take place across the outer banks and the eastern seaboard. now, closer to home, as nick said, it's a completely
8:20 am
and this is hope here, folks, a little bit of sunshine trying to track in for wayne county. now, the cold front is starting to make its way in. look at the contrast on this contours map. to the west 48 degrees, but you can see most of northeast ohio mid-50s to upper 50s right now. the front will continue to track through, and we are waveling completely good-bye to the upper 70s -- waving completely good-bye to the upper 70s and lower 80s week long. -- that we've been basking in all week long. you can see the high pressure has taken over much of the western communities and it's going to make its way into northeast ohio throughout the afternoon. it's a bubble of fall-like air that will take over this afternoon. we're only looking at daytime highs lower 60s. so look at the clouds. it really starts to fade out by the noon hour if you have outdoor plans. we are looking a-okay, and, nick, we have that big meteor shower tonight. look to the north with clearing
8:21 am
thank you, janessa. well, the indians find themselves in a prime position after winning the first two games against the boston red sox, so can they wrap it up up in beantown? that's the big question. another full slate of matchups on the high school gridiron. our sports team breaks it all down in this morning's sports report. that ball is rifled into the corner in right. that is that's going to score a run and now it's called a home run. >> oh, the indians get a big hit from lonnie chisolm, lonnie baseball. the indians lead the a.l.d.s.2- 0 after winning 6-0 at the ballpark team diradmonish was there and has more on the man who dominated on the mound for the tribe. >>reporter: when david price was introduced in boston in december, he was asked about his 0-7 record in the post season as a starter. he said, quote, i'm just saving

the red sox. well, he's going to have to keep on saving because he remains 0 for october. in the meantime cory kluber 1- 1, socking boston in the mouth and earning his first win -- earning a win in his first post- season start. [ crowd noise ] >> it was a blast. i mean, you know, it was obviously a great atmosphere. i enjoyed it. i think that it was a lot of fun to have, you know, a crowd like that, especially that >>reporter: will you be a little bit rusty or would he be really good? i think he answered that question. he was terrific. >> he's one of the best pitchers in the game right now as effective as he was. he came out and pushed on to fight and stuff. after that he settled down and it was back to the same cluver that we've seen every single day. >>reporter: after two games what are you most proud of? >> everybody. this whole team is competing.
8:23 am
any of that stuff, but we have players that love to compete and have bought into this team. it's a fun thing. >>reporter: when lebron james and the champs were shown on the scoreboard, they went bonkers. perhaps the indians can follow the cavs' route and tweak their first-round series on sunday. with the indians, news 5. time now for a little high andy, she's lauren. let's roll. we start with cleveland heights 4-2, traveling to bedford to take on the 6-0 bear cats. heights scored the first two touchdowns of the game and it started with this. wright, the nice toss to summers, 7-0, a 12-yard strike. watch this 21-yard run by number one, reggie harris. don't forget it as he pushes his way into the end zone. it was a barn burner. nobody was stopping him and

8:25 am
>> north ridgeville hosted avon last night. avon looking 7-0. they came out strong. matt kelly finds mit cooper for the four. they go up 7-0. avon did not stop there. brian malley looks to mcclure. he takes off. look at those wheels. he's headed to the house, 14-0 lead for avon as they go on to win 49-20 and remain unde on the season. >> danic 60-yard run right there. brecksville looking to improve to 7-0 taking on north royalton. breckville down 7-0. they tie it up. alex from 1 yard out for number 20. later in the quarter, breckville driving again, royalton, picks off the pass, but it's not enough. the b' own the golden shoe trophy, 50-34. lauren, that is a wrap on week

welcome back to this saturday edition of "good morning cleveland." i'm nick foley. we have several major developing stories for you this morning. we, of course, are tracking hurricane hrk, parts of coastal georgia flooded and communities in south carolina and north carolina are now on high alert as the storm continues its path north. the latest on the damage so far. and donald trump not the only candidate in hot water this morning. hillary clinton's campaign dealing with scandal as well. the thousands of new e-mails wikileaks is releasing sms and let's get right to the now moving onshore in charleston, south carolina. here is what we know. it was just downgraded to a category 1. abc reporting at least six are dead in the u.s., the death toll in haiti, however, rising to nearly 800. millions are without power in the southeastern states. and right now the u.s. military is on the move headed for haiti. that nation in crisis as the death toll there, again, continues to rise. just look at what the survivors there had to deal with.
8:31 am
helicopters going to help, but having a hard time to get to some of the hardest hit areas. they will be able to deliver relief to remote areas as soon as they can. and we checked in with our local red cross to see if any of their volunteers would be deployed to haiti. they told us in northeast ohio volunteers will focus on victims here in the u.s., and we know you are probably wondering how you can help. you can always donate to relief organizations like the red cross. in fact, if you are an at & t customer, you can donation. meteorologist janessa webb joining us now for a look at weather. again, this has been a long- lasting event. i mean, this has gone all the way up through the caribbean, obviously we saw how hard haiti was hit, now up the atlantic coast and now into georgia and south carolina. a lot of people being affectd to say the least. >> this is a historical late season hurricane. i mean, october, we shouldn't be is seeing this, but it -- we

said, florida finally in the clear and they're picking up the pieces. but since this has been downgraded to a koot goar 1 -- category 1, doesn't mean things are over just yet. things are starting to look a little bit better. just in the last hour we're starting to see things loosen up just a tad bit. but i still have my eye on charleston, south carolina. want to show you this cell that is bringing gusts to about 90 miles per hour across this will continue to track to the north affecting them with another dose of moisture. our major concern is beach erosion, storm surge. so the moisture continues to flow in here. up next is north carolina from fayetteville to charlotte, we have our eye on you as moisture continues to track in. now, closer to home, we were off to -- we are off to a cloudy start, decreasing clouds. and look how things have cleared up pretty nicely out towards wayne county.
8:33 am
a comeback quickly here. to the west we're in the mid- 40s, but you can see the warm air still in place because that cold front has not tracked to the south and east. so today we're still talking about a ton of sunshine across the board, but, nick, our daytime highs, they have fallen about 20 degrees, so here comes that sweater weather. >> yeah, definitely feeling like fall today. well, while donald trump is focusing on damage control over friday's video on the democratic side hillary clinton's campaign is dealing with scandal as well. wikileaks releasing thousands of new e-mails. news 5's meg shaw following the campaign trail for us. meg, what's the latest this morning? >>reporter: well, nick, in a statement wikileaks says this is just the beginning on a series of deals involving clinton and her campaign chair. the website releasing 2049 e- mails they say came from podesta's account. the e-mails came just hours after the obama administration accused russia of trying to interfere with the election.
8:34 am
speeches that gave clinton -- that clinton gave. they say in the e-mails, they say she was paid at least $26 million for those speeches. in one of them she told bankers she, quote, favored open trade and open borders. in another speech clinton said politicians must balance, quote, both a public and private position while making deals. also saying, quote, it is unsavory and it always has been that way, but we usually end up where we need to be, adding, bu discussions and the deals, you know some people get a little nervous to say the least. so you need both a public and private position. at this point the clinton campaign has not confirmed the authenticity of the documents, though it did not deny them either. podesta tweeting on friday he doesn't have time to figure out which documents are real and which ones are fake. nick. >> all of this is going to make for a very interesting debate tomorrow night. thank you, meg. now to a developing story,

8:36 am
grandchildren? it terrifies me to know that people are so much in a rush that they would hit me while i'm trying to get my car together. >>reporter: ohio law already requires drivers to slow down and if possible change lanes in these situations. but statistics from the ohio state highway patrol show that the move over law has done very little to keep pedestrians like these safe. the number of tickets issued since the law went into effect in 2011 has quadrupled inherent dangers and responsibilities that come along with operating a motorcycle motor vehicle on the highway. >> that was megan hickey reporting. no word this morning on the condition of the two hit last night. all lanes, though, are back open this morning. well, coming up next, a surprise show of support for a local sheriff's deputy who is being treated for breast cancer. and in this week's journey through my ohio, leon bibb

8:45 am
because in lester holt's case, each time he did it, he was wrong. >>reporter: in 2000 giuliani briefly challenged hillary clinton for a u.s. senate is seat in new york before suspending his campaign for health reasons. so he's done his opposition research. are there things you know about hillary clinton that donald trump has not used yet? >> yes. >>reporter: are you urging him to use them? >> we'll see. hi, i'm sarah kearns, total basement finishing is a complete basement renovation package offered by ohio-based mit systems and owners mike and gale are here to explain how the products in this package will change the look and feel of your basement. thank you so here. i know having a finished basement is on the top of of a lot of people's wish lists. so let's go ahead and start by talking about some of the common problems homeowners face when finishing their basement >> sure. the biggest one is that the basement is below ground. so there are a lot of things that affect the environment of the basement that don't affect the environment upstairs. so they have to take into account other issues like shifting foundations and especially moisture when they try to build into the basement. >> and what happens when a

use conventional materials in the basement environment? >> well, first thing in the basement there's a lot more abuse going on down there, especially with the kids playing and everything. so they need a product that's a lot more durable so you don't end up with holes in the walls, but most importantly is the moisture. there's humidity, there's plumbing leaks, there's drainage problems, and if moisture gets down into the basement, it'll literally just eat the drywall, the conventional materials that are usually used in a basement and just cause everything to get moldy and smell and then tore out. we tear them out everyday. >> so what do you do differently to prevent those problem? >> we have a product that's completely inorganic. we have a video where we take our wall system and put it in a swimming pool. you can pull it out of the pool and it's as good as new. so by using inorganic material, we don't have the same problems with moisture that conventional materials do. >> and, gayle, tell me about the materials you use and how long they'll last. >> well, they should last
