cleveland starts now. >> flags are half staff across ohio this morning to honor fallen heroes. plus the biggest game in the n.f.l. this weekend being played in cleveland today. the browns will be lookin tom brady's return to the field. let's take a look outside this morning. does it look colder because it is. hello and welcome. let get right to the forecast. whether you were out late last night or early this morning, no joke, there was some cold in the air, the wind was there. fall is here, folks. >> fall is here and it will be another cool one for your

over 50. so temperatures dropping again, but the good news is i'm bringing you still sunshine. right now we are seeing some lake effect clouds for eastern locations, but they will move out of here as high pressure continues to move in. downtown clevelandes say warm spot, 54 degrees. let's make our was to inla upper 30s, so, folks, these are some of the coolest temperatures we have seen since april. as you're stepping out, be prepared for that. across the poured, you can see ash tabeulah. 44. contours map, we are back in the darker blue so these temperatures hopefully going to warm up just a bit for your sunday afternoon.

from cuyahoga county, to ashtabula. clouds from portage county. he high pressure really building to western locations, that's why you're seeing some of the coolest temperatures of the season so far. we are dealing with no ohio across the central plains, they're dealing with a little bit of severe weather, but it's well out of our area, we will get a lot of sunshine look at this hour by hour. nick, by noon, 57. >> i'm like, what's going on? >> reporter: a gruesome discovery, a little boy finds something no child should ever see while playing on cleveland's east side. today his mom and dad are keeping an extra close eye on him after he found a dead body.

have a lasting impact on the child after the 50-year-old boy found the body. >> i get to contact my wife, something happened, our baby has discovered this body. >> cleveland police still working to identify the man. right now all they know is that he is in his 20s or 30s. tomorrow kicks off fire prevention week, but just hours from now an early start. as a special ceremony will get under way in lakewood to honor firefighters who have died in that's where our own meg shaw is this morning. what's on tap for us. >> this year's firefighters ceremony may hit a little closer to home than usual. just over two weeks ago the department lost one of its own to cancer. they say he was dedicated to this city for 30 years. this is video from last year's sorry money we attended. they say at this year's ceremony they plan to honor

recognize one promoted officer. today's ceremony kicks off the beginning of fire prevention week, which is celebrated all across the country. the goal to educate people of all ages about what safety measures they can take in their homes to prevent fires. according to the national fire prevention association, three out of five home fire death from homes without working smoke alarms or no smack alarms at all in 2015. station here in lakewood, the ceremony kicks off today at noon and the fire department accepts anybody who is in attendance can take a tour of the fire station following the ceremony, that will run from 12:30 to 1:00. anyone is well to attend. meg shaw, news 5. >> there every day for us. thank you, meg. all eyes on first energy stadium, the browns will take

hurricane matthew been downgraded to a tropical cyclone. yesterday making landfall in north carolina. they're still trying to pick up the pieces here. we have a lot of moisture still running through raleigh-durham and the outer banks here, major flooding taking place, but you can see we wanted the track of this storm to really shift to the east, but instead it has made its way across the eastern seaboard. we are dealing with major beach erosion from ch coastal areas all the way up to north carolina. now we were just talking about the track, it continues to lift to the north from atlantic city, portions of virginia. also watching that tribe game in boston, you can see the bulk of this moisture will continue to lift to the north instead of east. we are thinking this was going to shift east to go back out to sea, but it continues to lift across the eastern seaboard. the next 24 hours, even though

tropical cyclone, still watching a lot of moisture. nick? >> matthew is downgraded to that post tropical cyclone, but its destruction continues. in north carolina, hundreds of water rescues, dams and dangers. florida begins to survey the damage. the storm claiming at least 15 lives. abc's lauren lister is stains st. augustine, florida. >> reporter: bringing record- breaking floods. more than 500 rescued across the street as streets became river rapids. in fayetteville. people stay from on top of vehicles and inside of them, not everyone making it out alive. the storm killing two people in this car when they were washed away. as matthew moved up the coast, it weakened, the storm surge

piers in myrtle beach. bringing down power line lines and trees from florida to north carolina. flooding cities and knocking out power to more than a million. >> the wind has really picked up. difficult to move around. >> reporter: after it passed the damage revealed. homeowners returning. >> catastrophe this weekend. >> reporter: this restaurant in st. augustine destroyed overnight. >> i this is horrible, this is my worst nightmare. it really is. >> reporter: residents in this neighborhood were some of the millions told to evacuate and now some returning home to this. they boarded up the windows and prepared for the storm, but that couldn't stop an enormous tree from falling on their house. conditions, a few lake effect clouds for eastern locations. seeing that right now for southern cuyahoga county. also lake and geauga. i said it this morning, kind of chilly out there, almost lost my alaska card. we are still in the 30s, though, folks, but these are some of the coolest temperatures that we have seen since april. this is what we are seeing the cool air medina, wayne county. i wouldn't be surprised some locations, even just a tad bit of frost. temperatures didn't drop down to the lower 30s. upper 30s in most spots, definitely a cooler weather pattern in effect here. look at the temperatures contrasts. greater cleveland, 52, you're the warm spot. millersburg, currently at 40 degrees, ashtabula, you're seeing the lower 50s with the

medina from lodi to worcester, currently at 38 degrees, 5 live radar is not picking up any moisture, the clouds are bouncing off the lake, that's why you're sitting in mostly cloudy weather from greater cleveland to ashtabula. pressure will continue to build in here. this will be the weather pattern, folks, evenes with we step we aren't losing the sunny skies, but fall has really dropped in across northern ohio. looking at your bar graph, a few clouds by 4:00. partly cloudy conditions tonight. and is allowing for all the sunshine that we are seeing. this is our next front. really doesn't make its way in until wednesday, thursday afternoon. you're looking at our temperatures. they're going to return here to

seeing lake effect clouds that are forming, i want to show you the big temperature contrast right now. downtown cleveland, yeah, you're the hot spot, make your way to medina, currently 39 degrees, also lodi, upper 30s, the chill is in full effect. but wide range of temperatures here, from start to summit county, so we have clouds that continue to bounce off the lake mostly cloudy conditions but making your way west, we are seeing this the high pressure building once again, that will continue to invade our space throughout your afternoon allowing for a lot more sunshine. this will be the day even stepping to your monday afternoon, the nearest moisture is well about 700 miles away, and weil not track that until about thursday. so hour by hour, get outside, but be prepared for cooler

daytime highs will stay there throughout your sunday. >> thank you, janessa. just hours from now the lakewood fire department will honor the fallen heroes who have come before us dedicated to saving lives. marking the beginning of fire prevention week, meg shaw is in lakewood for us. this year's ceremony will have a little extra added meaning. >> yeah, nick, just over two weeks ago they lost one of their fellow firefighters. with cancer. after dedicating more than 30 years to this city of lakewood. take ray look, this is video from last year's ceremony. they say today they will honor that firefighter in addition they will welcome two new officers and one promoted officer. they will take the oath of office during the service. the department is encouraging the public to attend this year's special event and they say those in attendance can

the ceremony. back out here at the station, we are at the fire station 1 here on madison avenue. the ceremony set to kick off at noon. the tour will run from 12:30 to 1:00. anybody is welcome to attend today's ceremonies. i will be extra special. live in lakewood, meg shaw, news 5. we are in the is it of the, the midst of part of the year. more than 80 people have died from overdases of heroin. there is easy walk for those impacted by heroin today. from 9:30 to noon at gar followed heights high school. people attending are asked to bring photos of people they have lost to drugs. more people teaming to fight the heroin crisis. they launched their safe passages yesterday.

breast cancer awareness month. the to your err going pink -- the tower going pink. the many buildings around the world that will be glowing pink all month long in honor of breast cancer survivors. lebron james supporting the cause by wearing pink on the court last night. moon dog and the cavalier girls decked out in pink as well. it was all part of their breast cancer awareness night. they took time out breast cancer survivors. >> i am a survivor, and cancer free. i've experienced complications, but early detection is a must and 3-d mammograms are a must. that's how i got my 3-d mammogram. >> love to see so many people coming out to support though night. fans were able to purchase

toward finding a cure. pink the' color of choice at the zoo. they will raise awareness and money for research. one woman who will b be there, one woman who took on the disease and won. lauren brill has her story. >> reporter: i remember his words, just came in and said, well, it is cancer. >> reporter: that was how a doctor told darlene 20 ye >> my husband would come to all my appointments with me. sometimes when he knew i was meeting with a doctor, i would come out and he would be sitting in the waiting room. >> reporter: he used exercise to clear her head. >> it helps with the stress levels. they have said that if there is a magic pill, it would be exercise. >> reporter: 20 years later,

grandsons, who are 4, almost 2 and 8 months, and i can play with them. >> the curves has raised about $175,000 for american cancer society over 15-year period. >> the horn was diagnosed 15 years ago. >> reporter: while they are survivors, darlene knows all too well not everyone is that lucky. >> five myster to breast cancer, she had a more aggressive form of it. >> reporter: when darlene was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was scared, now she's not only strong and healthy, she's different than she was prior to her diagnosis. >> it made me appreciate other people. that support, knowing someone is out there thinking about you, just helps you.

not picking up any moisture, but to the east you are seeing a few clouds, to the west a lot of sunshine to start off your sunday. and that will continue to push in here as high pressure dominates for at least the next 36 hours. do want to take a look at the post-tropical storm cyclone now. we are still dealing with a lot of moisture and flood concern for raleigh- of charlotte, west virginia, new york. we want to take a quick look, people are asking about the tribe game, indians game this afternoon. look at boston getting hit really hard right now with a good dose of moisture. we are going to continue to see that post tropical cyclone lift to the north. this will be a close within if the game is played this afternoon. so hour by hour, closer to home, greater cleveland, we are talking about sunny skies

7:00 hour, temperatures only in the mid-50s. high pressure will continue to dominate as i said, at the to the west, we are tracking our next cold front that doesn't enter until wednesday, thursday afternoon. we are going to see our temperatures spicing up here in in the next few days. headed to the game this afternoon, have the coat handy for game time. mostly sunny, temperatures in the 50s, closer to the lake this afternoon. we will fall off a few degrees from clouds for your evening, 42. this is really not a bad 7-day forecast. but kind of a sea saw effect. 63 by tomorrow. 70s for tuesday and wednesday. that front that i showed you, it makes its way in thursday, providing us with early morning rain thursday. but look at this 20-degree temperature drop, we are back in the mid-to upper 50s.
