we start with breaking news owl of willoughby where shots were fired ending with a man dead it happened at willow plaza. >> police just held a press conference. kristin, catch us up. what did you learn? >> reporter: well, frank, this is still an active crime scene. i i'm going to -- i'm going to move out of the way to show you what's going on. right across the street is a strip mall. see a gray pontiac grand am in between a white truck and a black car. that's the car that's part of this entire situation. police tell us that a man who was inside that car had felony warrants out and now that man, that driver, is dead. now, this happened over here in the parking lot. we're going to pan all the way around here where you can see

this afternoon. there were two police officers who noticed the man sitting in his car -- in a car, we should say. they went to him because he did have felony warrants out for him. they asked for identification, and when they did, he produced fake identification. they asked him to get out of the car. when he -- had they asked him to do that, that man then put the car in reverse and struck one of the two officers who were on scene. we're told that officewa he has minor injuries. that's when one of the officers fired multiple shots at the driver. then, that driver sped away. he then sped out of this parking lot, across euclid avenue, and a witness tells us that driver then hit the curb of this strip mall right over here, went airborne, and then crashed into that white truck right over there. obviously a very scary

the workers. we spoke to a worker. she saw the aftermath of it all. here's what she had to say? >> the ambulance pulled up. they pulled a passenger out and put him on the stretcher and drove off. >> reporter: we know that the suspect did not fire any shots, but we do not know if he had any weapons in e investigating, so is the state bureau of criminal investigation and which willoughby police will be doing their own investigation. a major drug bust brings a gang off the streets. >> one gang in particular was the target of police. they tried to slow the sale of heroin and cocaine. is it enough to make a dent in business. we're live.

there. >> reporter: there sure has. dozens of complaints have come in here to the police department as well as city hall each and every day i'm told about drugs in the city. $40,000 in cash. 1300 gram of heroin and cocaine and a stash of weapons, all taken when police converged on 19 houses across the city in connection with operation exodus. david works rehabbing this one just down the street from one of the houses police targeted. he's happy police got some of the drub deal -- drug dealers off the streets. >> they're predators. they don't give a -- about the 3-year-old child. they don't care about the 89- year-old woman. all they want is that money. >> reporter: he explained to me he fears others will move in and take over their drug business. >> i think it sends a strong message.

there was a gas explosion in portland, oregon. a construction crew hit a gas line working in that area. according to witnesses, two explosions were heard before huge flames and smoke broke out windows in stores. they were all blown out. the explosion could be felt across the entire neighborhood. this happened in the middle of a busy shopping district, a bagel shop leveled as a of that explosion. of now, officials say many customers were able to make it out of that area before that explosion happened. right now, there are no reports of any fatalities, thankfully. outrage continues to grow in one minnesota neighborhood after video of a white company and a black man ends with him in handcuffs. >> the cop says it's because he was walking down the middle of the road.

>> reporter: residents frustrated and outraged letting city leaders in minnesota know they want answers. >> it's fortunate to think this was on videotape. i hate to think what would have happened had it not been happened. >> reporter: the first council meeting packed with the two people in the now controversial video, not there. >> don't put your hands on me like that? >> reporter: the officer claims he stopped thomas walking in the middle of the street impeding traffic. the woman who recorded the video said he was hugging the right side of construction. >> the officer didn't need to approach the situation like that. >> reporter: according to officials, thomas was detained at the scene and was cited for disorderly conduct. >> we can't deny that officer olson maintained his womb.

announced because the officer followed protocol, he won't be disciplined. for some, that's clearly not the answer. city officials will review the policies and look to see if any reforms are necessary, including retraining the officers. abc news, new york. the new york police department tonight is responding to the deadly shooting of a mentally ill woman overnight. according to investigat say had history of a mental illness. she tried to attack officers. they convinced her to put the scissors down, but then she grabbed the bat and started swinging at the officer. that's when he grabbed his gun and shot her in the stomach. the department is looking into why the officer, who wass armed with a taser at the time, didn't use the taser instead. >> what is clear in this one

happened. the vast majority of cases we get it right. if there's any one life lost, it's a precious life. >> the officer who shot danker is on administrative leave as they investigate this incident. police areing looing for a man -- are looking for a man who fired shots in san francisco. it was in the school's parking lot yesterday shooting four students. one of them is of the victims were targeted. police say they are looking for four suspects last seen running away from the school. right now, crews are working to get a handle on an enormous wildfire in colorado. >> nasa just released this video of the fire burning south of colorado springs. 400 people have been evacuated. the fire has destroyed 5 homes and 13 other buildings so far.

a man is dead after a police involved shooting in willoughby. he was shot near the intersection of euclid. this is video of that shooting. someone recognized him as having warrants out for his arrest. when he was approached, he backed over one of the officer's motorcycles. that's when he took off and officers opened fire.

>> this is an excellent example of how social media is very helpful in law enforcement. we put that information out on facebook, and the citizens were able to come forward. >> reporter: today, he was arrested and police told me he confessed to 13 break-ins over the last three weeks in akron and springfield township. this one case, he got away with $1400 from this bar's atm. he was out on bond for identity theft at the crimes. >> he pled guilty to that. he's awaiting sentencing on that. he's broken into these other bars. >> that makes me angry. he needs to be off the streets and people that do this kind of stuff don't need to be tolerated. they need to be punished. >> reporter: paul is in the summit county jail facing breaking and entering charges. police in springfield will get together to discuss how many additional charges should be

was shot in the chest when buford and his partner tried to arrest him outside of the store. he allegedly broke into it. right now, he's on restricted duty with the department: the rocky river father in jail accused of shooting and killing his own daughter just had his bail increased. he has a $2.5 million bond posted against him as he faces an aggravate the murder charge for killing his daughter. a couple of weeks ago, i judge reduced it $1 million, but a judge just ruled that with ties to the middle east, he is a flight risk and just bumped bail back up to $2.5 million. prosecutors also say there is surveillance video of him loading the alleged murder weapon hours before she was found shot dead. he has pleaded not guilty to the charge. and the bodies grafton police found inside a building

young sons. >> lawyersor confessing the crimes without a lawyer present. prosecutors say she was advised of her rights and her comments were not coerced. authorities say she killed her kids because she was jealous of the attention they got from her husband. she pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder charges. she could face the death penalty if convicted. it's been one month since alleged serial killer admitted to killing a woman.

she is. her body was found back in 2007. the sheriff's office says it received about a dozen tips, but none have matched the victim. he told police he couldn't remember her name, but said she was in her mid-20s. he's facing murder charges in connection with the deaths of two other women. he's pleaded not guilty. a couple pleads guilty to a bombing attack that critically injured a prison guard. they both pled guilty to felony assault investigators say the couple along with donna's sister left an explosive on the doorstep works threatened to report elder care scam. his wife could get one to four years. his case is pending. here's the story trending on social media right now. a statue of a nearly naked hillary clinton caused an uproar.
