8:00 am
for the third night in a row protests continue across the country in opposition of the election results. that includes right here in ohio. we'll show you what while you were sleeping. >>reporter: and trouble for one of cleveland's oldest and most beloved landmarks. why vendors here at the west side market say business is down up to 60%. hello and welcome to this saturday edition of "good morning cleveland." i'm nick foley. meg shaw will be live from west side market with that story shortly. first let's get right to that forecast. here's meteorologist janessa webb with a big chill in the air for you. >> yeah. you saw meg with her big winter
8:01 am
where that chill is in the air, folks. we have reports richland county currently at 23 degrees. it's all due to a dome of high pressure that's going to settle in here throughout your weekend. you can see that contour going crazy this morning with the darker blues and the pinks. the cold air, it is in place. this will continue to track across the ohio valley for your weekend. we are not tracking any rain, just high pressure. it's going to allow for a lot of sunshine. so no need to fret where we're the only thing we'll be tracking this weekend is cooler temperatures and just that abundance of sunshine. so as you're stepping out this morning, you're probably noticing just a few clouds. they're really going to start to split apart as we step into about the 3:00 hour. daytime highs, that thermometer, nick, it's not budging too much. highs only in the upper 40s. >> reality check forecast. thank you, janessa. overnight thousands marched through the streets of dozens of cities across the country, still protesting the election
8:02 am
row demonstrators were out in columbus as well. the crowds around ohio state university were smaller than thursday's group. it's estimated 2,500 people rallied at the statehouse on thursday. well, last night the crowd was in the hundreds. everyone, though, remaining peaceful. and a similar scene overnight in los angeles. about 200 people marched from pershing square to city hall. many holding signs, chanting not my president. the california highway patrol, though, blocked entrances to freeways all around downtown to make sure the group did not stop traffic. police were prepared for another round of protests there. thursday overnight the city had been plagued with violence, protesters breaking business and car windows, setting fires as well. but friday it was a much calmer scene. police did use flash bangs to disburse the crowd, however. those behind these protests say the plan is to be back out again once again tonight. and back at home, some of the fallout at those protests seems to have begun before the votes were actually counted.
8:03 am
voters shows a record number of them were so unhappy with their choices for president, they just left that portion of the ballot blank. in 2012 3,000 people left the presidential portion of their ballot blank. this year more than twice as many people, 6,500 didn't choose a presidential candidate and overall voter turnout was lower as well. additionally, roughly 6% of cuyahoga county voters submitted a blank ballot. >> that's one option, it's to go in, sign the poll of the candidates. so basically they are saying they voted and they are protesting maybe a presidential candidate or all the presidential candidates. >> about 30,000 less people voted in cuyahoga county this year than voted in 2012. moving on now, vendors at the west side market are showing concern this morning. sales and rent are -- or sales going down, rent going up. many say that if something is not done soon, one of

8:05 am
i don't because i can't afford to pay the help. >>reporter: now, we're told more than 100 of the vendors here at the market have signed a petition urging the city for a rent reduction to offset some of these costs. of course we'll keep you updated on what happens. live at the west side market, meg shaw, news 5. >> certainly an ongoing situation there. thank you, meg. also this morning an akron woman is facing theft charges. police say wanda starcher has been stealing social secu disabilities. in total the victim lost more than $5,000. now, this is the same victim starcher was convicted of stealing from last year. she was sentenced to two years of -- two years of community control. now she's facing additional charges for violating the terms of that sentence. cleveland police are hoping you'll recognize this man here. he's a person of interest in a recent string of thefts. he was caught on camera jumping a fence into the clark auto clinic lot last month. several vehicles were damaged
