gun. the clerk shot him. that man was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. we did speak to the clerk's brother who tells us the clerk very shaken up. again so is his family. his wife at home worried. here's what he had to say. >> his wife she was panicking. she has twins coming in soon. and she was freaking out, crying and all that. she thought, i thought something happened to my brother but thank god nothing happened. >> reporter: again the clerk's brother very relieved nothing happened to him brother. but again we're still waiting for more information from detectives this evening regarding this shooting. we're still waiting on a condition update on that man who came in here and attempted to rob this clerk a little bit earlier. keith. >> jamel lanee reporting live with breaking news in tampa. thank you. stranded in the ocean desperate to reach the shore. a cruise ship out of tampa

and the people they rescued all came from cuba. the number of cubans making that daunting journey to the u. s. is skyrocketing. jeff ritter is reporting from tampa with more. >> reporter: more than one cruise ship has served as a rescue vessel recently for people desperate to leave cuba. >> it looked like someone built a shack on top of a row boat. >> reporter: libby was on a caribbean cruise ship when the captain said they were going to turn around. >> these people were in the smallest vessel you've ever seen out in the open water. >> reporter: this is exclusive video of another rescue at sea taken by a carnival cruise ship

>> reporter: it's something the coast guard is seeing a will the of lately. >> month by month, little by little we're getting more and more cubans coming in from the florida straits. >> reporter: the coast guard has seen an increase in the number of cuban migrants they've encountering. >> reporter: lieutenant commander soma told me today they found two primary reasons that people are making this desperate attempt. >> one is well the economic opportunity and the conditions in cuba haven't improved. and two and this is really the biggest up tick, the perception going to change. >> reporter: for some the coast guard says it's a life and death decision. >> very often because they're traveling in unseaworthy vessel, often times out there

that third child a 6-year-old boy is in foster care tonight. and a scary start to the new semester for a usf student. someone attacked her while she was unloading her car. on saturday afternoon, the student told police a man grab her and kissed on the cheek in the parking lot of green village. a pit bug attacked a seeing service dog. and now the owner is worried her service dog will no longer work. >> reporter: the owner is worried that her dog is still spooked. in an instant they were attacked by a pack of pit bulls. and so, now she's recovering, he's worried that she's afraid

he doesn't know what he'll do. >> reporter: for richard draper, andy is not just his best friend. as a guide dog, she is his whole world. >> basically she means my freedom. >> reporter: draper needs her, because he's legally blind. and last week, he nearly lost her. >> the pair went for a walk down this street when two pit bulls ran out and attacked them. it took a while to fight them off and andy got pretty banged up. some photos were too gruesome for television. >> she's bleeding from the neck and she's coughing up blood. i'm like i was angry. i was angry because, i was attacked. i was angry because my dog almost got killed. >> reporter: since then andy has been recovering. and draper has been unable to take her on walks. >> are you concerned that this attack could affect her ability to help you. >> yes, it very well could. >> reporter: andy came from south eastern guide dogs. these animals cost 10s of

take up to two years to train. >> andy his guide dog could very easily be traumatized from that and tell him she no longer wants to work. >> reporter: south eastern guide dogs is monitoring andy daily and getting him retrained for her job. but they remain optimistic that he will be able to serve draper again because draper doesn't know what he would do without her. >> reporter: i went to the home where the pit bulls live. the person at the home told me the owner of the dogs was not interested in talking. meanwhile police are investigating. >> reporter: does the guard dog's owner considering filing charges. >> reporter: he says he is considering it if his dog is not able to work again.

two problems, a veteran down on his luck turned to a pawnshop.

taken him for a ride. this veteran brought his sister's wedding ring to the pawnshop hoping to earn enough money to get back on his feet. >> but his trip to that shop farther. real mess. this veteran has all the paper work to prove that he deserves the ring back but the ring is gone and the pawnshop makes no apologies. them. >> reporter: at a low point, army veteran ronny lakeman made a bad decision. >> everything went down and we couldn't afford anything. >> reporter: with his wife's permission he dropped off a wedding ring. he took out a $200 loan and paid interest. it's been two years and cost him a thousand dollars.

we saw the tornadoes down in cape coral on saturday. we have an el nino. we can't rule out the possibility of seeing severe thunderstorms including tornadoes. jackets tonight, absolutely. maybe some high clouds for us. right now again the look at the temperatures around locally are mostly in the 50s as we saw a couple of minutes ago. around the rest of the state you can see 45 degrees up in pensacola. seeing temperatures near 0 degrees. there we go. let's get back to that graphic. if you saw the football game in minnesota that was on sunday. current temps 6 degrees in minneapolis. boston is not bad at 30 degrees. same in new york city at 32 degrees. there's cold air trapped up there to the north. we're tapping into some of that cool air with some of this high pressure to the west. the flow around there on the eastern side of the highs

the flow clock wise. that's why the warming is expected. most of the clouds are well to the south obviously. high pressure will continue to be the big feature the next couple of days. temperatures will stay chilly in the morning and afternoon. actually below normal temperatures. we do take a jump with the temps at the end of the week along with that rain chance. still sunny, maybe a few of those high clouds. high pressure will continue to shift slowly. but we're still getting that cool shift from the north to northeast. that's why the temperatures will continue to stay on the cool side. highs from tomorrow, generally in the 60s throughout this period. 63degrees in plant city. 65 in braydenton. 64degrees on wednesday. there's the rain chance of 30%. then 40% as we get into friday. could be some thunderstorms as we mentioned. had some nasty thunderstorms farther to our south this weekend. as we get into the weekend, we start cooling off again. monday 59.
