>> a polk county woman dies in a hit and run. now almost a year later investigators make an arrest in the case. >> murder mystery solved. how an old grudge ends with a beloved softball coach gunned down in his driveway. good evening. cate. >> i'm jennifer leigh. right now crews are work ing to clean up major storm damage in desoto residents in arcadia were dealing with winds close to 65 miles per hour. check out the damage in venice. you can see the roof of that strip mall torn right off. if there's any good news it's that no one was injured. >> but we are not out of the woods just get. there's another chance for strong storms tomorrow. we have team coverage starting with paul mueller in sarasota county.

had a weak cold front push through the area but it's coming in from the west so it's mild still. local storm reports show tornados down around the cape coral area again today. also over on florida's east coast as well as the local severe damage we talked about in venice and arcadia southern areas were under a tornado watch for a while, the southern sections of desoto and highlands county. it's just an indication of strong thunderstorms with that line of showers coming through in the morning hours. our rainfall, these are estimates, 2 inches of rain. this fast moving line that came through at 45, 50 miles per hour still picked up an inch of rain in some areas but a half inch was fairly common. as we look at the severe weather risk for tomorrow into the early part of

we are working to get you new information and we'll update you here and on wfla.com. closure tonight in polk county. nearly one year after a hit and run that left a winter haven woman dead on the side of the road investigators made an arrest in the case. investigators say surveillance video shows john may, junior pulling over at the scene and then walking away like nothing happened. tamera pierson died after being struck by may's bmw last february. 11 months after the incident may was arrested this morning for leaving the scene of the accident involving death. he has a bond of $15,000. he could potentially bond out tonight. in other news tonight, a popular softball coach was killed over a grudge. investigators in polk county believe they have his killer

sheriff judd called alfred jenkins the face of evil. they believe he killed terry yelvington because he turned in him 6 years ago for stealing union dues at the company where they worked. yelvington was gunned down in his driveway as he was leaving for work last august. >> he needs to death penalty. he needs to serve the ultimate penalty. he needs to die for killing terry yelvington. >> jenkins appeared in front of a judge today who sent him back to the polk county jail to await his murder trial without any bond. a worker was killed today at port tampa bay. the front end loader that he was driving was buried in sulphur. investigators tell us an avalanche of sulphur collapsed onto it.

st. petersburg voted yesterday to allow the rays 3 years to explore possibilities of moving across the bay to tampa. that opens up a lot of questions like who would pay for a new stadium and where would it be built. mayor buckhorn has some suggestions. >> the rays if they do their due diligence they will look at all the option, the fairgrounds, the raymond james sight, west shore, downtown. i think from my perspective of the mayor of tampa and looking at it from the ray's perspective a stadium in the urban corridor is the best location and will return greater value on the dollar invested. >> the mayor is hoping so set up a meeting between ray's management and the hillsborough committee forum to bring the team across the bay sometime in the next couple of weeks. >> a lot to think about. >> it will be interest ing . thieves are stealing your

degrees at 7:00 a.m., in the afternoon temperatures will warm nicely into the mid 70s with sunshine, a few clouds. a very nice day over all, it's just what's going to come early sunday. 60 degrees the current temperature palm harbor, 65 treasure island, 61 riverview, apollo beach, lutz and odessa 59 and 56 in inverness. the low 60s arcadia. you can see the showers and thunderstorms that lined up and raced across the state moving at 45 and 50 miles per hour associated with this area of low pressure. then an additional line of showers came through about 8:00, 9:00, 10:00. that caused tornados down to the south. this is an el nino year. the fast jet stream flowing at over 100 high above it tends to

some strong wind gusts. a trailing front didn't bring cold air in here but it's cooler. the wind will be lighter over night. visibilities could be reduced in many areas. %-`the forecast over night, the fog developing, temperatures will stay on the mild side. a dense fog possible inland, temperatures near 60 degrees for a low temperature. nice saturday. just a few clouds, about a 10% chance of rain. most of that later in the day. it's this area of low pressure for 6:10 a.m. for sunday passing along from west to east just racing along really. you can see the lines of equal pressure wrapping around the low. when you see this this time of year and in an el nino phase there's a possibility of strong wind gusts like we saw today and the possibility further down to our

that will turn breezy once this system moves through and then we'll start the cooler stuff. that's where we'll set up highs in the 60s next week. a marginal risk of severe weather. today the southern areas had a higher chance. 61 degrees for the morning, 75 degrees in the afternoon for a high temperature. nice day for saturday and different from much of our days that were cool. 68 degrees on sunday, rain chance much higher the first half of the day. 62 degrees there for martin luther king day on monday. temperatures stay cool throughout the week. near 60 degrees for tuesday, wednesday and then thursday and friday near 71 degrees. over night low temperatures chilly as well, the low 40s. that will mean some 30s in the northern areas. any severe bulletins we'll pass them along to you. >> it's nice weather over all aside from the traumatic events.

in the cutter household the words family meeting meant life-changing relocation. cutter has uprooted and replanted his family ten times. this week it was to celebrate a dream come true. he was introduced as the head coach of the tampa bay bucs this afternoon. he couldn't hold back tears as he thanked his family and every player and coach he ever worked with and then addressed the bucs fan base assuring them that he is the man for the job. >> this franchise is headed in the right direction. easy to say, harder to do because competition in the league is the best of the best. i'm ready for the challenge. it's going to be a heck of a journey and i can't wait to roll them up and get started. >> just moments into his press conference cutter announced he hired a new defensive coordinator, mike smith who was
