luther king jr. good evening i'm keith cate. >> and i'm stacie schaible. thank you for joining us tonight. tonight we have team coverage beginning with eagle eight hd reporter who has a view above the devastation in sarasota county and boy it's something to see. >> reporter: it is, inside the house that was demolished there's people now sifting through going in to see what them find to see, they're setting out some of their items they found. but this is not the only house in the neighborhood affected. if i pan out wide, check out all these blue tarps what that means is they've had some type damage. if i push in you will see the screen lanai is ripped off. they have screen damage.

before they get back to damage here in this sarasota area. thank you paul. where steve and katie were killed, people are showing up to see what they can do. >> reporter: there's not much left in the home where steve and katie lived. their homes, their belongings all strewn across the street and into that field. family and friends came to sift through the debris. four children and two adults were also injured here. it's hard to tell how anyone could have survived this. >> everybody says that's how steve was.

need anything he would be out there to help you. >> reporter: schuman was picking up his own damaged belongings today. >> we're going to build it back. that's devastating enough for me but mainly you have people who lost their lives and that don't compare. we can rebuild this. >> reporter: his workshop was blown apart by the tornado as he and his wife went to an interior closet inside their home. >> that's a pretty hopeless feeling you've got. you're hoping the roof on top of you doesn't disappear. >> reporter: the house was built in 1962 and he's been through hurricanes before. >> charlie went through here. but it was way weak end by the time it came here. i remember these trees swaying and going every which way. >> reporter: but he's never seen anything like the tornado. >> you hear the story of people say it sounds like a train. but it's like thunder off in a distance, being in florida you

it just kept coming. you know. >> reporter: the power company was just here. they left a little while ago after doing some repairs here. >> jeff moments before we came to you. paul lamison was showing us an area perspective of blue tarps peppered around the damage where he was located but what about where you are. have you seen damage in other areas? >> not far from here keith. there's a whole other homes scattered here that have some damage. the homes scattered, so not a lot of damage. the homes that are impacted still have a lot of damage. our team coverage continues now from sarasota the site of more severe weather. with millions of dollars of

to get back to normal. newschannel8's john rogers joins us live now from sarasota, hi john. >> good evening stacie. folks trying to clean up this mess. there's a massive task ahead of them. all of this rubble came from that house. it was stripped off of this house. beneath this pile of junk here. there's actually a car down there if you can believe it. a lot of this is very hazardous. one thing folks are looking out for are boards like these that have these nails exposed. this is a massive massive task and it's no easy effort. on the fourth floor of the excelsiur condominium, the damage is substantial. the clean up effort will be a herculean task.

it was a bedroom. it's unbelievable that nobody was badly hurt or even killed in this storm. i'm standing in what once was a room and look at this chaos around me. it's a miracle nobody died here. 40 members from a clean up crew began to pick up debris. across the area, county officials say more than 60 buildings were damaged with a cost totaling more than $11 million. many good samaritans have come to help these victims but there's also been folks taking advantage of the situation. >> we're get ago lot of people asking for the scrap, and asking to clean the house and that kind of thing. >> reporter: county officials provided resources to help. relief agencies and officials spoke with victims and they also shared information to avoid shady contractors and scam artists. the work correctly.

storm victims to do their research before rebuilding. >> reporter: check it out. i mentioned it earlier you can see the car buried under all this rubble here. i'm going to carefully walk through here. this is all information you should keep in the back of your mind. start with your license number. make sure you ask for it. look into it. also, check for references, contact those references and before you sign any contract make sure you check with an attorney. because if you do your home work you can save yourself from being swindled out of thousands of dollars. back to you. >> we know that so many unsavory people swoop in and look for just these kinds of situations to take advantage of people where can people find information. >> the best thing they can do is contacting the county. they have plenty of resources on stand by to make sure your contractor is reputable.

john rogers in sarasota. the national weather service was watching very closely as the tornadoes broke their destructive path. it appears as a dark blue debris ball on their screen. >> it's probably part of a trailer like i said tree limbs, leaves, fiberglass, whatever that tornado is able to pick up. >> reporter: the manatee county tornado crossed mainly farmland otherwise the death toll would have been higher. >> in places like the golden gate area of collier county was great there. the weather service confirmed an ef4 tornado touched down. >> now to 8 on your side. according to the national

warnings 18 minutes ahead of the tornado that tore through duet. the that 18 minutes according to the national weather service, meteorologists dan noah provided an opportunity for anyone in the path of the storm to seek shelter. >> people need to receive the warning, if you don't receive the warning it doesn't do any good. we want people to get a weather radio. it acts like a smoke detector for natural hazards. >> dan noah adds the outdoor siren system would not work in

people are all over the bay area remember dr. martin luther king. parade organizers don't want dr. king's message of equality for all to be celebrated just one day of the year. and in tampa, hundreds of people lined the street this afternoon for that city's annual parade celebrating the life and achievements of the civil rights leader.

today we're getting a new area. drone eight pilot peter bernard damaged area. >> this is drone eight. this is exactly the kind of story we invisioned using drone eight. and you can see it in front of us. >> it's the weight of you like you've never seen before. i flew drone eight on midnight pass road. you can clearly see how this storm ripped the roof right off.

north on the eastern side. a clockwise flow gives us that cool surface low. as you can see the high clouds that we saw on the camera imagery right there on the satellite. coming from west to east. that's forecast two on the rpm satellite. winter jackets to start off the day. will get a little milder as we get into thursday. wednesday still a very cold start to the day. warming up near 70 degrees. should be some sunshine mixed in with those clouds. we get into friday. that will give us a rain and thunderstorms chance as we get into early on friday. next three days, temperatures are cool. 59degrees in the forecast for tuesday. 54 for wednesday. 70 on thursday. there's your rain chance on sunday. then we recool. time for the gasparilla extravaganza. 62degrees on sunday.

the next two weeks belong to the seniors. practices began for the teams. three current members of the bucks roster played in this very game last year. so everybody hopes to make an impression on scouts and manager like jason light what hit a home run in last year's event. >> you never know what you're going to find. in this setting it's competitive. instead of going to a practice it's not necessarily competitive practice. thursday practice during the fall may be one where they're trying to ease back. but here they're trying to make their mark and impress the whole league here. >> and mr. bucks ring of honor. mike olstod is part of the east team coaching staff. just like dirk cutter the other day, the a train is lobbying
